Wolves 2017

Well I hope last nights second meeting farce has finally put an end to staging double headers at Monmore Green. Starting at 9:30pm needs explaining and the good old 'curfew' get-out to cut the meeting short is not value for money. The many programme changes and the use of Ellis & Perry from the Swindon fixture made it a poor advert for a so called Premier League. Oh and we had r/r and a guest team manager to complete the circus show.

No wonder BT decided not to cover it

Club statement this morning regarding Somerset away is one of the saddest admissions of how far the BSPA has sunk.

It's a shocking state and fair play to CVS for coming out and amazingly admitting that the sport has become embarrassing when these things happen and coming from the best man in the business and someone that will back British Speedway all the way. it's a showing of how the low this has gone and even the die hards are waking up to the fact the sport has to change but will they make drastic and needed changes ?

What amazes me is why Somerset from a business perspective would choose to run this meeting?.

One of the few GP riders in the country is guaranteed missing (which surely makes a mockery of some promoters belief that GP riders bring crowds in?) and his team will turn up with only two of their own riders..

Why would anyone go and watch this? Somerset fans will think "we have no chance after the first leg and it's only a Wolves Select" and Wolves fans will think "we are miles in front and it's not really my team so sod the M5 on a Friday"..

At an absolute push I can only think that when home teams arrange these ever increasing number of fixtures where the away team is a Mickey Mouse Select team, it is because they think they increase their chances of victory...

However, it's a victory in Competitions rendered farcical (therefore of no value) by their very own actions...

Couldn't make it up could you..?

I believe you'll find that Garry May previously went to press on this one.

Wolves declined the offered date of 15th as Lindgren was not available due to riding in an unofficial meeting so Wolves wouldn't have had the guest or r/r facility.

They prefered to take this week when they would only have one rider (Thorsell has obviously since declined to be involved in GP practice as a meeting reserve) and preferred to take the option of going with guests and r/r.

Going to the 29th would have been a month since the Rebels last home meeting, and with a final for the winners, Australian GP and play offs to consider, all at risk from the British weather it really had to be 15th or 22nd.

Wolves will get through anyway and subject to sorting out more dates and relying on the weather they could now still have Lindgren and Masters available for the final.

Isn't it a bit rich of CVS to question the credibility of British Speedway's use of guests and double uppers and downers? Has he not been a long standing member of the body that has created and allowed it to be in the state it now is. I say again scrap it all and start again. Wolves like most teams are now suffering because of their use of riders who are unavailable to them because they are required to ride for their parent clubs instead.

Doubling up has to go. However, because it's been allowed to mutate to this level of jaw-dropping idiocy, the only way it can happen is gradually over a period of two or three years. There simply aren't enough riders to go round who WANT to race in Britain now.

doubling up doesn't need to go entirely, what it does need is planning better.

Premiership clubs ride on 2 or 3 nights of the week, then championship clubs ride on any of the remaining 4 nights. that way you eliminate all these clashes.

unfortunately the idiots that run the sport don't seem to understand that.

I think you'll find they do. It's just taken a long time for them to understand that it's a problem.

not true as shown on many posts on here and elsewhere, the real reason why they wont scrap it is because riders want it and they are running the sport these days for themselves , Edited by THE DEAN MACHINE

May be you should be asking the question of who wanted the 22nd of September in the first place, certainly not Somerset. CVS can make all the statements he wishes to the contrary, but it was Wolverhampton who originally insisted on the date, and even went as far as releasing it publically without even consulting the Rebels management.

So maybe it should CVS who is the one taking the responsibility for sport becoming 'embarrassing when these things happen', as you're so quick to say 'Incognito' (Interesting name by the way, under the circumstances), rather than doing what he has done, and tried to deflect the blame towards the leagues 'New Boys'.

Is it any wonder the top tier in this country has trouble attracting enough teams to make a fully meaningful and competitive league. If it really wanted to, then it should put forward the real interest of British Speedway, and not the holy than thou, self interested, 'I'm alright Jack' attitude we have from some people. If CVS had the best interest of British Speedway at heart, and would 'Back it all the way', again as you say 'Incognito', then this could and would have been sorted to everyone's satisfaction months ago. Sorry but he's only got himself to blame for this one.

With the Premiership moving to fixed nights of Monday and Thursday, the issue of doubling up could easily be solved by requiring Championship teams to ride on other days.

And if they do so choose to run on a Premiership night for whatever reason, then they don't get priority on said rider(s).

The top league should come first, since it's supposed to be the best product that Speedway GB can offer to the public.

Have mentioned this previously, but the visiting teams might object if they have a d/u rider because their home meetings are not on mon or thurs.
