Edinburgh V Glasgow Pl 7/10/16 @7.30pm

Recommended Posts

I went to london v Scottish monarchs in 1996 which was abandoned due to a power failure. Also eastbourne v oxford in the early 90's which went the same way. Overall it's a very rare occurrence.

It is , and it happens at football matches too . It's just unfortunate that it was Edinburgh's final planned meeting and god knows when or if it will be restaged and what consequences occur if that is the case .

Re above, the following has been posted on FB by Mike Hunter:-

"In case there is any doubt about it, could we clarify that we have every intention of restaging our league match against Glasgow. As it won't be within the next week, we won't have Sam or Ryan available.

Obviously Glasgow have a lot of important fixtures so it will depend on agreeing a date with them. The Tigers organisation were terrific last night, trying just as hard as we were to ensure that the match would go ahead if at all possible. We are grateful to their promotion and riders for their positive attitude".

I was at Plymouth once when the lights went off during a race (scary!) and a few more times after that.... It was a long night too.

Huge praise to the vast majority of the big crowd last night who were totally aware of the efforts being made and were very patient and understanding.

No-ones fault and just the final kick in the teeth for our 2016 problems. I will not be sorry to see the end of it!!!

I was at a meeting and the lights went out, a chinese electritian came on the mike and asked everyone to raise their hands above their heads. The lights came back on, the Chinese sparky said "Many hands make lights work". :t::cheers:

It was also a pity that meeting presenter Scott Wilson was otherwise engaged and that his stand-in Gordon Campbell, understandably became involved in the floodlighting recovery

Was Gordon the only one who could use the mic, what about the promotion?

To be fair, although we in the west are exploiting the situation to criticise the mighty Moanarchs, we must all be so so so grateful that the lights didn't go out during a race. The potential danger of such a scenario doesn't bear thinking about.

To be re-staged on Friday 21st, according to Official Edinburgh website.

Lets hope the floodlighting has been fixed & fully test in advance and that the weather is kind to us (now where's that "let us pray smiley"? :P )

Richard Greer put the lights out at Hackney whilst practicing in the second half of a meeting I believe it was in 1969

Best one I ever saw was at Barrow back in 85.

The lights went out during the meeting and we were told that the generator had failed but they would use the tractor to power it. A chap ran across the centre green, climbed onto said vehicle and drove it off only for it come to a halt about 50 yards away. Then another chap was seen running across the centre green with a petrol can and inserting it into the stranded machine. A roar and a large cloud of blue smoke later, and it was off. A couple of minutes later and the lights came back on to a ragged cheer. Then there was a huge bang, the lights went out and the meeting was abandoned.

As Cityrebel says, these things happen once every couple of seasons (unless you are at Stoke). Annoying but rare.
