Belle Vue 2017

Recommended Posts

David Gordon has announced he is stepping down as Chief Executive Officer of Belle Vue Speedway but that he will maintain his close ties with, and continue to help and support, the club in the future.

The former CEO took over the world-famous Manchester club in late 2006 together with Chris Morton and Gordon Pairman and has been in control of the iconic Aces for the past ten seasons.

In that time the team have experienced many ups and downs, but it was in the latter half of his tenure that they produced some of their best, most memorable performances in Elite League competition.

The 2015 and 2016 seasons saw the Rentruck Aces successfully qualify for the end-of-season Play Offs even topping the table this year while completing both campaigns with the silver medal.

And it was thanks to the collective efforts of Gordon and Morton over a near-ten year period that the building of the National Speedway Stadium, home of the Belle Vue Aces, was finally brought to life.

Despite a rocky start to its life, the venue has produced some very fine racing has played host to a variety of high-profile events such as the 2016 British Final and the 2016 Speedway World Cup.

Gordon said: It has been an exciting and at times challenging 10 years and I wish to thank everyone connect with the club and all the supporters for what Belle Vue Speedway has achieved.

"I will be maintaining my close relationship with this club and I will help and support it in every way I can, and I take this opportunity to wish both the team and the fans much success in the future."

Pairman is in and out of clubs as often as warren beatty was actresses, if he comes in wonder for how long this time?

Well considering the debt you can't go wrong with Pairman, considering he is an accountant.

With Gordon a promoter at Poole, we can now useBelle Vue as a feeder club for Pirates. Let them have a learning year there before coming to Poole.

Sounds good.

He is without doubt an excellent accountant.

During his last stint with the Aces we sold our number one for a tidy sum then after one season we paid a paltry loan fee to have him back before he retired.

I think the club that bought him hold the record for the most paid for a rider for one season.

Great days.

Why would a team ranked 4th be able to get riders from a better 1-7?

Besides who in there right mind would want to leave the best track in the country and race on something not even close?

Rumours are rumours; personally, I tend to ignore things until someone comes clean and explains what is or isn't going on. As its the 'Big Pow Wow' later this week, something will have to be said regarding BV. Tracks (promoters) have to register their intent to run in 2017. On the face of it, Belle Vue only have 1 director left (Chris Morton), as George Carswell is not named as one. I think George's contribution was to buy the Worrall's and Fricke, who I presume, if he's been clever, owns.

There's no smoke without fire, there will always be an element of truth in any rumours; how much remains to be seen. It may not be as straight forward as Belle Vue folk would like it to be, as Manchester City Council will also be involved, having stumped up an eye watering loan initially. They are bound to be looking for assurances involving any potential takeover, as I presume they would still own the stadium until all monies from the loan have been repaid.

British speedway is not in the best shape at present and the last thing needed is to lose a magnificent stadium and race track after just one year.

Its speedway in general's future that is at stake. The AGM will have to come up with some radical ideas/solutions if the corner is to be turned.

How many times are we to be told the too often trotted out statement - "This year, decisions have been taken that we feel will take the sport forwards" - or words to the effect off. Speedway I feel is reaching the crossroads and its bold decisions, not cosmetic ones our great sport requires. Perhaps we may not like what could be laid out before us!! However, if they eventually manage to kick start speedway again, I for one would take it.

We have 8 teams in the Elite League, of which 50%, Belle Vue, Lakeside, Leicester and Coventry, all have varying issues. The BSPA in general have to do all they can to ensure these tracks keep going. Yes, we all have our rivalry, the team we're not too keen on, but, no true speedway supporter would take any pleasure in the demise of even their most bitter rival.

You can take Lakeside out of the EL for now unfortunately.
