KevH
The report will contain commercially sensitive information that will enable the council to resist an FOI request. Whether they are justified in doing that is another matter. Thanks for the explanation.
Col
Its a speedway stadium , if not, its the biggest white elephant Manchester City Council have ever ploughed money into And lets face it if one Council in the UK make a sport stadium viable it is the Council at Manchester, I am always amazed by the sport arenas in that City whenever I have visited. The Sport City square mile must host more sports than any other city is capable of. My closest 'big city' in Birmingham as the second city pales is a disgrace in comparison. As do the capitals of London, Edinburgh, Belfast, Cardiff & Dublin. Yes I have visited all, none host the sport facilities Manchester do. I am certain that council will make the Aces viable, whether they can make them competitive for the next few years I have my doubts, since they really need a local derby that isn't Wolves/Coventry. A lot to be said about local rivalry, In our best supported years we always had the added fans from nearby by clubs. Ipswich and Peterborough always brought a big following when we race them and likewise we would take impressive numbers when racing away. Leicester could also be added to that group, but because the distance was getting near to 100miles the following wasn't as great... With all this talk about one league was on-going this year, my thoughts were directed to the rekindling of those wonderful local derbies, all to no avail. But they did generate a lot of local interest.....
arnieg
Is this not what 'The Freedom of Information Act' was introduced to prevent?: This is what the FOI is for: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leicestershire-13713798 https://www.theguardian.com/society/2011/jul/07/when-zombies-attack-bristol-city-council-undead-invasion http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/howaboutthat/9721072/Britain-is-well-prepared-to-fight-apocalyptic-zombie-invasion.html

uk_martin
. My closest 'big city' in Birmingham as the second city pales is a disgrace in comparison...Really? Your closest big city built the National Indoor Arena. It built the new Alexander Stadium, home of international athletics, Birmingham City Council successfully kept Moseley Rugby Club from folding and "rehoused" them when they lost their old ground. Birmingham bid for the National football stadium only to be thwarted by the FA's fixation with Wembley. There is still the plan to build a major football stadium if Birmingham City and Aston Villa could be persuaded to ground share. Birmingham put a lot of money and effort into creating & maintaining the Wheels Project. Birmingham is also bidding for the next Commonwealth Games. Given the cut-backs in spending that councils have had to make, I think that Birmingham can be proud of it's achievements. Just because the micro-minority sport of speedway hasn't featured hardly warrants the tag of "disgrace" to be applied to the city as a whole. I suggest you focus your bile on the largest local authority in the country that within its borders does not have a single professional team in any sport. ... if not, its the biggest white elephant Manchester City Council have ever ploughed money into ...It may not quite come to that. If former offices and former factories can be converted into flats and apartments then an "X" Stadium can be converted into a "Y" Stadium. WestGorton1884
Thanks for your numerous upbeat / positive posts regarding the future of the NSS I just can't see the council calling in the bulldozers any time soon ? Hoping it will be hosting top class speedway for many years to come Edited January 4, 2017 by WestGorton1884
hyderd
All true speedway fans will be hoping for good news soon, all the negative posters are IMO bored, so post answers/questions to wind up the true fans. British speedway needs more tracks like the NSS and hopefully Swindon's new home will be the second.

Popular Post PHILIPRISING
THEY will be and when it is confirmed Speedway Star will free to publish an in-depth investigation into what went wrong from that fateful opening day in March 2016.

uk_martin
Don't forget Birmingham council lending Warwickshire cc a sizeable amount money to rebuild half of Edgbaston and being flexible on repayment terms Now that IS a disgrace, isn't it? 😉 THEY will be and when it is confirmed Speedway Star will free to publish an in-depth investigation into what went wrong from that fateful opening day in March 2016. Linking the prospects of Belle Vue running with the prospect of Speedway Star doing some in depth investigative journalism only floods me with renewed pessimism 🙁
SteveLyric2
Don't forget Birmingham council lending Warwickshire cc a sizeable amount money to rebuild half of Edgbaston and being flexible on repayment terms That well-known 'deprived' area of Birmingham had so much European (slush)funding cash over the years , they could afford to throw money around at whatever they chose to. John Scrutton
Most of the big council talk a lot about SPORT STADIUMS But what they mean is Football Only It was good to see that Belle Vue included other sports namely Speedway as well. Cardiff had the right idea when they built a stadium which house all sports and is well used. Then they go and build WEMBLEY just for football. I would be interested to know who uses the pitch at Belle Vue ????

I visited for the SWC, stopped the night in a Travel Lodge as close to the NSS, walked to the centre on the Saturday morning, passing a aqua sports centre & a velodrome to visit the National Football museum. They made us park the car outside the Etihad for the event, Manchester City FC have built a massive complex for Sport. Other than football. I am sad to say it but Birmingham don't even have a Premiership Football team unless you count West Brom. Which half the stadium is in Birmingham, the other half in Sandwell. Birmingham don't have a Rugby Union or League team, that competes professionally Manchester has both. Since they built the Salford Stadium. mikebv
Salford isnt in Manchester Col..... You will start a riot with that....!! Largest City in Britian without a professional Football team although Salford City are starting to move through the Leagues with investment from Paul Scholes, The Nevilles and Nicky Butt... Spot on about Mcr and sporting arenas, truly a 'World Class' City when it comes to hosting events, Swimming, Cycling and Boxing all hold World Events there. Lets hope Speedway will keep using the NSS for World level competition. What a racetrack and facility...
