Little Thumper
You want to try it Thumper may even make you smile every now and then. Always look on the bright side of life is the music i have asked to be played at my funeral . Sounds good. I'll try and be there. I remember at Hyde Road when the rumours started to go round that the place was being sold off. People were really worried until it was announced that Stuart Bamforth had bought the old place. What could go wrong. Stuart was a stock car man and obviously loved the old girl as much as us season ticket holders did. It started well. A couple of pick-up trucks were acquired for the riders to parade round on and Stuart had his fireworks which he seemed to like setting off every meeting. Stewart also became chairman of that fine organization, the BSPA, so no need to worry. And of course, we all know how this ended. Five years later, the place was flattened so they could build a stupid car auction on it and Stuart could stuff a great wodge of cash into his trouser pocket. Bamforth died in 2004 aged 55. I'm not sure that he would have had, "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life" played at his funeral as perhaps there might have been more appropriate tunes. Bamforth did have some children. Hopefully, none of them are considering a career in speedway promotion. So, my friends, I apologize if my scepticism and questioning of those in authority offends you but I and many other veteran Aces supporters have been sold down the river once before and are not keen on seeing a repeat performance. Keep your pecker up. Edited December 15, 2016 by Little Thumper

I was there to live all this as well but i can still look on the bright side and the bright side point of view is We have been down many times before as you say Hyde road closed Perrin said we were in trouble many times and we have survived. There are still positive comments coming from the BSPA most of last years team have not signed for anyone else with only a few team places left so lots to give me hope so until i hear its gone ** up as far as i am concerned we will survive this time. jimmy jimmy
council meeting this week on future of speedway in 2017, I think a sticking point is the capacity of the stadium without the temp terracing, which would only be around 2,200. woodenspoon
I may be wrong, but I seem to recall that the permanent terracing on the South Stand was to be put in over this winter, along with toilets etc. I assume the original plans included all of this, or didn't it ? I suppose the question is who is going to pay for it. As without the extra capacity speedway would hardly be viable at the NSS, and without the cheaper standing viewing a lot of fans could not afford to go.

Don't quote me on this, but I seem to recall reading that the council couldn't afford to finish the Stadium off, so DG and CM had to pay themselves by hiring temporary standing in the south stand and near the pits, this and the 3rd/4th bend cock up is why Belle Vue 's past promoters failed to pay any rent. Like I said I'm sure I've read about it somewhere, just not sure where.
Aces51
It is certainly one of the rumours, said to have cost them £10,000 a month for the temporary terracing. Whether there is any truth in the rumour, I don't know. I do know that the concrete terracing in the south stand wasn't done so somebody was paying for the temporary terracing and toilets. B.V 72
Well if the council don't finish the stadium then any chance of a big meeting with no south stand will be gone and the title of NSS should be thrown out of the window as it will sadly be no such thing. If this is the case and as reported they had to pay out 10 grand a month for temp stands and toilets i can see why the old promotion did not pay any rent who pays for an unfinished job,you pay up when the job is done. There is so much more to this whole cock up that we will probably never know. SUPERACE
The main stand holds less than 1900 so without south and west stands this would be the capacity, which would make the stadium unviable. The new promotion would need at least 5k capacity so they can make money on the big bank holiday meetings and potential play off meetings. Plus this would make the stadium a no standing stadium which would put some off attending. Edited December 22, 2016 by SUPERACE

So, whoever takes over Belle Vue is in the cow pat then because if 1900 isn't viable with the reduction in top league standards there's no hope. Most clubs get nowhere near 1900 a meeting

Now the best crowd we can get is just short of 1900 which simply does not pay.
Little Thumper
Just imagine a public council meeting to discuss the 'justification' of the National Speedway Stadium. A sad man in an anorak may turn up at the council armed with your point of view, including the ridiculous comparison to the 'success' of basketball and taekwondo. It wouldn't take much spin to have everyone in the room laughing at him would it? Even the financial disaster would be easily swept aside with an explanation of how an extra £250,000 of costs were added and £thousands of income lost due to the failings of the contractors. If you ever did manage to moan loud enough to precipitate such a meeting I wouldn't be surprised if it ended by the council agreeing to spend MORE money on the project, leaving you to slope dejectedly out of the room to the jeers and ridicule of the vast majority in attendance. Good luck. Fortunately, as F. Flange previously stated the council will surely be keen to invest more money into the venture, so throwing in a few more seats shouldn't be any problem whatsoever. Isn't that right, Fred?
Col
The main stand holds less than 1900. And you attract more fans than 1900 for most meetings? Your management thought they could attract nearly 2000 fans to every home meeting. Most Speedway venues would struggle accommodate that many fans. Most clubs get nowhere near 1900 a meeting Well, yes.
waytogo28
The ongoing long delay re 2017 is likely to only be about who will pay up for all the outstanding debts ( those to riders especially ). Or is the delay about how they can write off all of the debt? So where did the money from 2016 go? If there was no rent paid and that was spent on temporary stands, there was still adequate income to pay the riders. Who took money out of BV? As for so much in speedway we will never know the whole truth or anything like it.

This was pumped up by the BH fixtures and the final. Had the track been ready we could have factored in PCM & Easter and that would have pushed the average attendance over 2000. This was done without any marketing budget due to outside influences so next season done properly I'd expect attendances to average between 2000 and 2500. If Buster keeps pushing it won't be done properly and the long term future won't be good, as is the case with British speedway as a whole. Trevor
I would be happy with Cook and Fricke, Zagar was too inconsistent, for the money he was on.
