Belle Vue 2017

Recommended Posts

Yes there a full.paid staff all year.

The stadium manager.

The health and safety manager

The press officer

And the 3 track men.

Stadium manager. Shuffling non existant papers on a desk. Annual salary. £45,000.

Health And Safety Manager. Twiddling thumbs and caught right up with Dexter, Game of thrones, seen every episode of Friends, twice. Annual salary, £40,000.

Press Officer. Nothing to write about other than a ten minute ditty to the SS once a week. Annual salary. £30,000

Three track men. Come to work. Drink tea, eat cheese sandwiches, fart, belch, tell a few jokes then eff off home. Annual salary, £25,000 each.

Bringing the total combined salary to £190,000....

Er. Get rid of these wasters and it basically covers the rent to the council.

Track staff are only required on the day. A days wages is all thats needed. Other track staff are paid by being let in for free. No need for more.

A press officer? Someone who is phoned up by the promotion and distributes the info to media. A good sensible fan with a laptop is enough. Bet there would be loads of volunteers. Wages? Free entry.

Stadium manager? No need. Whats the need? What would they do? Walk around making sure doors are locked? A pointless position, especially so out of season.

Health and safety manager? For what, making sure Morton doesn't trip over his laces? A pointless job when the stadium is closed. A job for someone on race night. 50 quid and free entry.

Belle Vue, by employing these people, have thrown away the council rent. Or am I way off kilter?

What about all the concerts, weddings, conferences etc. that the stadium manager has to organise?

What about the centre green at the National speedway stadium, does anyone use that facility, the centre green is marked out for use as a football pitch, a hockey pitch and I think a rugby pitch, all in different paint marking, surely everyone has seen them, does anyone use these, have they been paying rent to anyone, either NSS or Manchester Council, surely a stadium manager is required for them to operate all the year round, as well as a grounds man.

You're way off kilter. Where did you get those salaries from?

Perhaps they need to start running the stadium like other promotions do with not so many staff ....

Belle Vue only employed 3-4 staff. Everyone else you saw on race nights either worked for the catering company, the stewards company or were volunteers.

From what I know Poole employ one person, Giles. He is Matts right hand man. Everyone else is paid on the day, not full time. Middlo is team manager but only works when the team rides. Of course he does much more, as does Nigel Leahy, Gordon Day etc, but they are not full time.

Many work for the love of the club and free entry on the night. (Rakers, program sellers, etc etc)

The expense of these full time staff is rediculous and unnecessary.

And, by the sound of things , unpaid.

Track staff are only required on the day. ?

Are these the contractors they have no say over and it's not their fault

That doesn't cover half of the rent money !

Tracks should have a committed crew and yes they do get paid but look at Doc Bridgett at Edinburgh and Wolverhampton looking after two great tracks and won track of the year more than anyone. He has a great team at both tracks and most are volunteers but he would deserve that sort of pay for doing two tracks in two countries.

With the money owed, would anyone stepping in be expected to pay off the debt as that would be a deal killer and Speedway can't run at a venue where the rent is more than the income and pay wages to top level riders.

Great stadium, but it's too expensive for Speedway in Britain and for financial reasons they need to move next door or look elsewhere sadly

SPEEDWAY cannot survive next door and why should we all give up on what is one of the best stadiums and tracks in the world.

By the sound of it the Council don't want to see speedway not running there either and by working together with some sort of consortium it can still continue.

As I have previously said, needs BSI (World Team Cup rounds, Finals) and the FIM (GP Challenge, Under 21 Finals) to help by putting top meetings there. It is easy to throw darts at Gordon and Morton (who has probably lost everything) now but let's not forget they did bring the stadium into fruition.

Equally since that disastrous opening night, for which they still blame the construction company employed by the council, and the immediate loss of considerable revenue then and the bonanza Good Friday meeting against Wolverhampton things might, just might, have turned out differently.

I do understand that while the stadium has terrific facilities that can be used for weddings, conferences, etc, its location is not exactly a prime one and they have found it hard to attract such events.

A new stadium manager, probably a Council appointee, the retention Mark Lemon with a bigger role, and outside funding could yet provide a winning formula for the stadium to remain what it actually is ... by some distance the best race track in the UK and a fabulous venue for British speedway. Long may it survive.

Agree with that Phil.

So is a key issue assumed non speedway revenues in the business case that have not materialised? And is the issue there with the person tasked with generating such revenues not being up to the task?

THINK that is only part of it. Loss of revenue and, of course, goodwill from opening night was a massive factor and the battle for compensation from the council, who in turn were I think withholding money from the construction company.

Don't know whether the full story will ever come out but no doubt Gordon will want to put his side once any impending litigation is resolved.

Sadly, I think he and Chris made some serious errors of judgement in running the speedway side of the business and personally think Mark Lemon, a smart guy, could prove a great asset going forward.

And as per the local BBC news tonight, they state there are 2 Interested parties and it should be hopefully sorted by late next week.

Peter Collins as done an interview In the local paper. About how he wants to.help out so wonder if he is heading a consortium

Yep. Really. It was our legal obligation to employ one.

U needed the stadium manager to do that in his job description surely?

I believe every business legally has to have someone employed full time for Health and Safety

So not just part of someone else's job then?

Yes BSI need to put back some of the monies they gain from our sport by hiring the stadium at a nice high cost 😊

How will any new promoters be able to manage the massive mortgage repayments. Breaking even is hard enough for the vast majority of tracks, without having that millstone around their necks.

What do most tracks pay to hire a stadium? Surely all teams either pay giraffe, or gave significant investment tied up if it is their own.

Really? So a plumber with his own business needs to employ a fill time h&s for his business. the local corner shop does? the local pub?

Can you point me to the legislation which mandates this, as I can't find it.
