Speedway World Cup 2017

I just found this interview with Woffinden, which for balance I want to share. Most of you will be aware of it, but I wasn't and this puts things into a different perspective.

As team captain, Woffinden organised his own personal trainer to assess the fitness of all the GB riders and help them improve it.

"No riders turned up," he says, bluntly. "I've reserved time with my personal trainer to fitness test these guys, expenses paid, don't worry about it. No-one turned up. That's when it all started.

"Last year we went to Vojens (Speedway Centre, Denmark). Everyone drives 40km and has a nice meal. We're taken to a f***ing pizza shop, a kebab shop.

"It's a World Championship race off with Team GB and we're eating in a f***ing kebab shop."

Woffinden has made it clear he won't be switching allegiances to Australia, he still wants to race for GB, and he's left the door open for a return in 2018. But he's also contemplated another, far more drastic solution for Speedway Great Britain.

"The best thing for me to do is to try to buy the rights for it and run it myself, as I run my company," he said. "I've put it forward to them. We'll see what happens. I own the rights for five years, I find the sponsors, I build the thing. In five years we'll win that gold."

The only thing I would add though, Woffinden's motives were right in organising the fitness stuff, but it's worth mentioning he is not the team manager, so maybe he should have planned it alongside Rosco (it's not clear if he did). Also did he arrange it on a day and time that worked for all riders? It sounds like he was right in what he tried to do, but maybe went about it the wrong way?

How come the some of the Polish riders in the WC team were able to ride in the Polish Final, I thought that once the comp started the riders could not race elsewhere?.

Swedish final yesterday as well.

Once a rider has signed on for their first meeting they are prevented from racing elsewhere until the end of the World Cup.

Hence the Swedish riders are free to race until Tuesday and the Polish riders until Saturday -conversely the Czech riders were released from their commitment yesterday, as will one team be on Tuesday and three on Friday.

OK, thank you for that explanation

Sam Masters surely? Better than Kurtz or Holder at this stage of their young careers.

I don't agree with some of the stuff Woffinden said on Twitter but several people couldn't wait to goad him once GB started doing well. Pretty poor really and little wonder they got a response.

I really don't understand the mentality of people who go onto social media and start having a go at someone in the public eye. I really do think there is something wrong in their heads, and there seem to be quite a few people who feel the need to do it.

I didn't see any of it, because Tai obviously felt later that he should delete his responses after he'd calmed his head, but I don't blame him. Of people really feel the need to have a pop then they can't really be surprised if they get something back. Actually, being insulted back by Tai probably made their days anyway.

Doyle not riding was the leveller that we needed to see this round through!

Some good performances on show and Cook was class the way he passed Holder.....really enjoyed that !

Lemon made me laugh when he said that we will benefit coz we're on home soil? (or words to that effect) LOL

Errrrrr......who does Holder ride for ???

Hoping Australia get eliminated in the race off ! Cant stand the big headed gets!

And Batchelor!!! It's a massive excuse his 4 riders and our 4 riders all ride in that league there is no home track advantage he just can't admit that they were defeated, same as Doyle's controversial comments last year in the build up to the final, unlucky Aussies but you took one hell of a beating on Saturday, we'll see you in the final, if you manage to make it, hope you don't you ignorant arseholes, much love X.

Well if that's the kind of person you want representing Your country, I feel sorry for you.

I prefer to have my country and ultimately me, to be represented by someone who knows how to respect others and behave professionally

Step forward Craig Cook

I'd add Chris Harris to that

Id say you had a point if they had tweeted him/tagged him but it was people talking a bout him being missing and criticising him. He then went crazy on them. Maybe he shouldn't search his name? It was as if he went looking for trouble.

I don't get it either , I don't like him but just ignore him , he didn't deserve the abuse he got , I understand people feel let down by him but we had a great result and that should of been what the tweets were aboutbut some folk are very confrontational especially on social media

Having watched the polish championships last night are the poles that strong even at home ? Only one of the team made the final and 2 of them didn't even make the semi final , they are all good riders but they are vulnerable especially with the weight of the country on their shoulders , , we are gaurenteed 4th , if we have an average meeting we will get 3rd , if we have a excellent meeting 2nd , if we have an excellent meeting , luck is on our side and the poles do crumble under pressure well who knows

I agree. Maybe doing things the wrong way but obviously trying to help GB riders. I was listening to Craig Cook's interview during the play off on Saturday. He said Rossiter had a fitness expert with him for the Kings Lynn meeting and the guy was watching what the riders ate. Kebabs and pizza are off the menu in 2017. Maybe Woffy's comments from 2016 helped achieve that improvement..

Well done Woffy. I see nothing big headed or arrogant with these comments. If you dish it out then you must expect it back.

One thing I did see, and answering one of your questions, he DOES have an Aussie passport. Or at least he tweeted he does.

I honestly can't remember the detail but I was not abusive I can assure you.

Can only assume you must have been blocked for blowing him kisses. Happens all the time..:lol:

Like millions of others who have lived in two countries.

What does holding at Aussie passport signify to you ? What bothers you about it ?
