The Pzms New Two Team Rule.

Recommended Posts

Can anyone clarify if riders get paid a retainer by their Polish clubs. I've often read this or that rider has travelled to Poland for practise but not been picked to ride in the meeting. Can't see too many riders choosing that over regular outing in UK and Sweden

Some teams pay riders a good signing on fee ( not all though) This is paid usually in March.. Team riders are named at beginning of the week for the following Sunday. Travel money is paid if named in team and rider / mechanic travels to practise/meeting (flights and van costs )

Polish teams have squads and many like riders to practise on a Friday or Saturday to finalise the team. As has been seen with British riders this year, if you don't perform straight away, you're out and other than injuries, you're unlikely to get another chance.

Yes pay in Poland per point is substantially better than UK. But getting paid regularly is a problem, with many riders having to wait til Christmas til they are fully paid for the season. In some cases clubs go bust and they get nothing. Some of the figures I've heard in pits re the amounts owed are unbelievable, you wonder when owed that much riders continue to turn up.

This is not first time Polish clubs have come out with questionable rules for the new season. Usually they disappear. This rule of only 2 clubs has arisen before and nothing happened. Most Swedes/Danes/Auzzies etc. Ride Poland/Sweden and Denmark with many also doing the UK. It is entirely possible if this rule brought in, a rider could choose to ride in Poland and Sweden and quiet possibly not get paid all season by either. Some Swedish teams don't pay also. Riding 4 countries at least gives riders a cash flow should a team not pay them.

If all riders get together and say to Poland none of us then will ride Poland and just do UK, Sweden and Denmark - they will soon change their rules. Plus certain as riders all Self-employed that this proposed rule, breaks some EU employment law.

My guess this will blow over and riders will continue riding in the countries they wish to ride.

I mean who is Puk? :P

PUK is Niels Kristian Iversen

As we are still in the EU I am not sure of the legality of enforcing this sort of rule (restraint of trade, free movement of labour and all the rest if it ).

I suppose though they could say to the riders we will only give you a contract if you are available to us for x amount if time, which would be fair enough.

The problem is their clubs are far more cut throat in self interest than the BSPA are, so if for example one club said to Doyle you can only sign for us if you only ride in two leagues, someone else needing a top heatleader might well say, come to us Jason mate and we'll let you ride in Sweden and GB

I`m talking about the top boys here but we had leaked contract evidence in Poland a couple of years ago(Emil and Czestochowa) that indicated £1500 a point was around. I would guess that Sweden would be(top riders again £600/700 a point.

About 5 years ago a PL No 1 doubling up as EL second string was on around £200 a point in Sweden which was far more than the No 1 in his British EL team was earning in Britain. The same British EL No 1 told me he was earning roughly 10 times more in Poland than he was in England.

Of course , sponsorship varies greatly from rider to rider in any country, but for some it is a big earner especially some of the very top boys.

I dont know what Emil's contract was per point with czestochova. But I think I'm correct it was irrelevant as Czestochova went bust and he was owed 350,000 Euros. I believe he never got it.

Puk is Danish for puck. NKI was hit in the head by a puck when he was young.[/quot

Don't think you are correct. I have asked him sometime ago

and I think he said - it was just a nickname at school. Playing golf with him, so will ask him again and report back.
