SharpenRake
Anyone got any idea when it will be restaged?
comet49
it has been raining around the area not heavy but enough to cause visability issues rather than bad track conditions i was in maryport earlier and it did put down a slightly heavier shower for 5 to 10 mins the threat of rain is in the air but sofar just strong winds and little light rain I hoped it would pour down all afternoon
Halifaxtiger
it has been raining around the area not heavy but enough to cause visability issues rather than bad track conditions i was in maryport earlier and it did put down a slightly heavier shower for 5 to 10 mins the threat of rain is in the air but sofar just strong winds and little light rain Make no mistake, the Met Office report was heavy rain starting at 10.00am and continuing until late evening (see my post at 07.32am). They have got it completely wrong - for anything but the first time. This meeting could have been on, but the promotion cannot be blamed in the slightest for the postponement. What I don't get is how they get it so wrong when others got it so right Edited September 24, 2016 by Halifaxtiger
Tapeworm
I'm actually quite pleased that this has been postponed despite the difficulty of finding another date. I always thought it was a bit ambitious, at this crucial stage of the season, for Glasgow to schedule three consecutive matches against Somerset, Workington and Somerset in three days. And then, with Nike picking up an injury the night before, in a pretty meaningless fixture, our season's dreams could have come to an abrupt awakening. I know riders need to earn money BUT was it not a bit reckless to allow Glasgow assets to risk injury so close to the season's climax when facing a tough schedule of meaningful fixtures ? I hope the extra 'free' day will assist in the recovery of Nike and the bruised and battered riders involved in the Battle of Oaktree last night. Lord Lucan
Quite so HT, barely rained all day, light shower between 5 and half past but that's been it, certainly was up my way just on the outskirts of town? Wind would have been a "bit" of an issue but certainly feel if we'd taken a chance this morning, being as it never looked like raining at the proposed 10am schedule and hasn't materialised since, we could have gone for a limited quick fire 10 races and see what happened after that, looks possible at the moment but, decision has been made so,doesn't matter really what it does but, definitely looks a goer still at the moment? The cynic in me says that's probably the real reason why we're not racing tonight, we're helping you out, the crap forecast was just a bonus to hide behind? Pogo1
Good point regarding two of our riders racing in an individual meeting the night before the Somerset meeting, Problem was no one from Glasgow knew they were racing as the Redcar promotion didn't have the decency to consult the Glasgow promotion who were shocked to hear Lunna had been injured whilst racing at Redcar, that was the first they knew of Lunna's involvement, could be very costly! Comet Dan
Heavy rain in Workington since 7:50pm, meeting would have started but wouldn't have finished. Took its time but I believe it remains the right call. Looking at restaging sooner rather than later so the competition can get finished. Will hopefully announce the date on Monday. I was at the Northside Training track for the NJL meetings with Northside, Berwick, Redcar, the Gems and Halifax. There was just mild rain later on in the afternoon, but it started to get heavier at 5.00pm as we left. It was very windy and hurtful on your eyes. As we came away, we visited Asda and all the main doors had been locked due to excessive wind. I really can't understand how the Met Office and others, can get forecasts so wrong. The rain forecast last night was for the rain to start at 4.00pm. Later last night it was moved back to about 7.00pm. This morning at 10.00am the forecast had deteriated to heavy rain from 10.00am to 11.00pm. And yet it still was nowhere near what they forecast. I read a few weeks ago that the Met Office is losing contracts and that a Danish company was now being employed. About time too, as the Met Office is plainly not fit for purpose. Clearly they got it wrong very badly today. Most others had the rain coming in about 10pm, so they weren't that far out. The one that was shocking was last Friday. I was down in Brentwood, Essex, and we had an amber ('take action') warning for rain. That means, to me, get the sandbags out. Others had predicted heavy rain(but nowhere near as much) around lunchtime, stopping about 4pm. What we actually got was persistent but medium rain from 12 until 4. As Lakeside had the same forecast, they would almost certainly have called the meeting off but for its importance. I think what gets me is how the Met Office get it so wrong, so many times, while others get it right. With one major exception (a meeting on the Isle of Wight) when forecasts are different it is consistently like that. yeah,,, its normally hard to light, but the salt helps it burn You should see what he does smoke
ruffdiamond
You should see what he does smoke av heard,,, and its actually sickening to think about, yuck !!! but it would be nice to know how the 'seaweed' looks today, (weatherwise)
Byker Biker
Let's be honest the met office in London don't give a twit about the weather in Workington Ian Thomas used to use and swear by the Norwegian Air Force weather charts, it really impressed people (even though they pulled the info from the Met Office)

KIRKYLANE
I went to the Workington Glasgow league match and it was the best meeting I have seen at Workington for a long time. Good luck to Workington in 2017
