Gazc
Worky to go for glory!! Must be a new reality TV programme they are entering as the chances of pulling 39 points back are slim at best.

topaz325
Reports in the Speedway Star and the local press indicate a uncertain future for Workington Speedway.
Lord Lucan
Weather permitting I'll just be pleased to see a good performance and a home win? Â Difficult decisions to be made over the winter, this sport cant be sustained on gates of a few hundred something has to give? Â Despite the near impossibility of the task ahead we could still be treated to one of the best matches of the season tonight but few will see that as "face value" is the deciding factor for many people? We have little chance of turning that score round so it's a dead in the water meeting for many so why waste money on it, it's how it is, disappointing as that may sound that will be the outcome and probably 4/500 will be the best we could hope for and I doub't I'll be proved wrong? Â Going to go for the same as last time and a 46-44 win, gotta get one right sometime!!
Halifaxtiger
http://www.newsandstar.co.uk/sport/workington-comets/latest/article/Workington-Comets-owner-warns-over-future-of-speedway-team-53f044bd-ca3b-44d4-805b-b5f795c52ee4-ds  Some might say that such warnings are nothing new but I believe there is genuine cause to be concerned for the future of Workington Comets.  I'd definitely be coming up for both this one and next week if the weather forecast was at least decent because I have seen some cracking speedway at Derwent Park recently and, to me(although not necessarily to others) that's what counts.  I also believe that the current promotion have tried hard to attract gates - at £15 for reasonably secure parking, entry and programme its easily the cheapest in the league and matches many NL tracks - and deserve better.  Fingers crossed.
Comet Dan
Laura has never in her time in charge complained about crowd numbers but last week really got to her unfortunately. Seeing such a dip in numbers following our first home defeat in the league in 25 months left a sour taste. She doesn't have a bottomless pit of money but she loves her Comets so it is genuinely a head versus heart decision for her. Halifaxtiger
Met Office forecast is awful at the moment and I have promised my maniac chauffeur I'd let him know this morning. Â As others are predicting entirely differently, I'll be angry if those cretins get it completely wrong again - as they did, disastrously, at Lakeside last Friday. Paulco
As heavy rain is forecast from 10am right through to 11pm we have made the decision to call OFF tonight's meeting against Glasgow to save riders and fans travelling. I've just woke up to heavy rain battering off my window , and the west of the country is to be hit hardest today . This postponement , while very inconvenient , is perfectly understandable

speedway needs fans through the gates in numbers and as a supporter i attend every week .its not fair to ask laura the pressure question about running next year . she will have plenty of time to make her decision in the coming months . a decision that is going to be extremely difficult for her .  if the closure takes place , workington will not be the only one , Berwick, coventry and possibly peterborough as treading a fine line to continue .if the truth was known , many others are suffering the same fate, but reality just hasn't hit them yet .  riders wage demands need to be lowered, which will in turn lower parts/machine prices because the demand for these product will fall . way too many riders treating this as a full time job and really creaming it .the end result is , us the fans have to stump up hard earned money to see our sport and the promoters take the biggest gamble in opening the doors for another season knowing it could easily go pear shaped .  so , i for 1 will hope it stays in 2017 , but the reality is that it could close at any time and may never return , ever . so people need to support this product and the band of helpers and keep it sweet for next season .  do what is best for yourself laura/team . its hard and its a 12 monthly ongoing task . you dont get a rest. so maybe its time to say goodbye and live your time in peace and quiet and no harassment from the out side world . i for one will not hold it against you . spanner47
Excellent post jenga. But whenever clubs are in trouble, the BSPA's answer is just to dilute the product even more and not listen to the fans who have stopped going. I thought our sport stood a chance when i heard about Buster's masterplan for next season, but sadly this didn't suit everyone so it appears to have died. We've all been saying it for years, for our sport to survive ( and then progress ) we need an independent body running it, but because of greed and self interest, that will never happen. Good luck to Workington in finding another owner, should Laura call it a day.

better to have loved and lost , than never to have loved before .  I think its an excellent post, too.  Regarding riders, I think its fair to say that the PLRC got a barrage of criticism for (one or two heats aside) being a very poor meeting indeed.  A contact tells me that the riders were unhappy about the amount of grip on the track and there was a major blade half way through the meeting, to make the track easier to ride (and, of course, much harder to pass).  I could make fair argument that they are therefore at least partly responsible for the quality of the meeting and that their attitude will drive fans away. They'll still expect to get paid, of course.  Promoters need to grow a pair and stop pandering to riders. Prepare tracks putting the interests and wishes of paying customers above those of paid employees and tell the latter to get on with it.
GWC
Speedway just like Football need people with wealth behind them who are prepared to bank roll their club. Crowds will come and go as we must be down to the hard core at the majority of clubs in UK. The rules regarding team make up and guest riders are slowly murdering the sport and a better solution needs to be found. The sport is bigger than a few glory hunting promotions. Lord Lucan
This is tragic, Jenga writing posts that make some sort of sense and, other people liking them, what's happened J?? Â Four hrs into this rain off forecast and not one drop has fallen so far, BBC report at 1.15pm had most of it blowing passed us on a strong southerly wind, brief spells between 2 and 4pm but nothing stayed on the map above us for very long? Â Hope this doesn't turn out to be another wrong one?
jenga
we have rain in the wind and will make visibility difficult . plus the gusts of wind can blow riders off course and cause an accident . correct call for me . Â i would rather see a meeting called off early , than have all riders and staff at dp only for it to be called off before 7 pm . .than laura end up with a huge bill for the travelling and expenses off all the staff it takes to run a meeting . just my thoughts . scaramanga
it has been raining around the area not heavy but enough to cause visability issues rather than bad track conditions i was in maryport earlier and it did put down a slightly heavier shower for 5 to 10 mins the threat of rain is in the air but sofar just strong winds and little light rain Edited September 24, 2016 by scarra
