Aces51
What to see them get hammered, no pun, at great expence. Anybody knows that. Of course there won't be many away fans and overall not a big crowd. I was being facetious. According to some the first leg crowd at Poole was less than for some leagues meetings this year and Lakeside was poor. It seems those extolling the crowd pulling power of the play offs can now only depend on the final to support their argument.

I have heard some say it was good and some say it was poor, but I was there I don't know how people think they can tell. It's dark soon after 7 o clock these days and once the track lights come on at around 7 it's very difficult to see anything off track. Historically Lakeside crowds, and presumably mist others drop when Sky are there especially when it's not normal race night. However for some time now the Lakeside promotion have been pushing the "must win " aspect as the play offs draw closer and attendances have generally been quite good, except when a patched up Kings Lynn side came and people stayed away. Personally I woukd say attendances have more to do with the quality of the visiting team. rather than the play offs. Certainly that seems to be the case at Lakeside. Aces51
I wasn't there but a friend of mine was and told me there weren't many people there. He is an Aces fan so couldn't make comparisons with the normal attendance. I think it's true generally that televised matches have an affect on the crowd numbers and it's always been my experience, like yours, that crowds increase when the the better teams visit. My point is that the evidence of the first legs of the semi finals and for that matter our semi final last year, is that they no longer attract the crowds they did but a few years ago and that to that extent the play offs are already losing their appeal
colin wood
Never been a fan of the play offs.A team which tops the league should be champions. It really does seem like a separate cup competition at the end of the season to me.The Swedish play off system seems silly and I don't think they will keep it.If you have to dream up gimmicks to try to make things more exciting then it loses credibility imo
mikec
Was down at Lakeside on Weds night, & for the match the Aces lost 48-45 at the Hammers a few weeks ago. Overall crowd for both matches didn't seem markedly different to me, though clearly plenty more Aces fans there on Weds night than our previous visit, unsurprisingly for a playoff semi final. Been some great racing in both encounters with the Hammers at the NSS this season, expect more of the same on Monday. With action on the big screen (if Sky put one up) from Monmore too, should be an exciting night. Edited September 23, 2016 by mikec

solrac
I've been saying it for years that the qualifier and cup format has had disastrous consequences for speedway attendances. The gormless play off claque are too thick to see it and are blinded by the slightly bigger crowd the final attracts. Just like Sweden the novelty has worn off and someone needs to think up another gimmick for the pathetic play off junkies who now need and crave and can't do without that big hit. Yawn. You're like a stuck record.

I thought the crowd against Swindon was a good one - indeed, I am sure Andy Young said 'make sure you all come again' or something of that nature. I wonder how many would have been there if there hadn't been a play off place at stake ? Ipswich on the Thursday was the same for what would have been, but for the play offs, a dead rubber. mdmc82
So is KK riding as I heard again it's harris???? Meant to be Kaspazak unless he has pulled out. Not sure if they would pick Harris as he's not good at your track. As somebody who wants Belle Vue to win, I hope they are going with Chris 😉
E I Addio
Was the crowd for the Swindon meeting bigger than the semi final? You would expect a marginal gain in attendance for meetings where a place in the knockout cup bit is at stake. It doesn't come close to making up the huge losses the top teams face (possibly -£300,000 at Belle Vue this season) due to the qualifier and knockout cup bit format. Crowd patterns are very likely different at Lakeside to Belle Vue. At Lakeside Sky broadcasts always seem to knock the crowds down a bit. Apart from the obvious attraction of sitting indoors watching it, the move from a Friday race night has an effect but mostly I think it's people unable to make the 7.30 start. On normal Friday race night with 8 pm start the crowd seems to almost double in size between 7.45 and 8 pm. When Sky come this late influx doesn't seem to happen. I don't know why but I assume it is because a lot coming up from Kent don't have time to get home from work and que up to get across Dartford Crossing in time. Conversely the Saturday meetings against Coventry start at 7.30 or 7.45 and are always well supported irrespective of the P.O. situation. Jon Cook said that he wants to try to get more Saturday meetings next year because crowds are better, assuming it can be fitted around the Stock cars. Sidney the robin
wouldn't miss it for the world, got my ticket online with print at home, so no queueing for me. Looking forward to a good match as I'm pretty sure the L/Side boys will know that Belle Vue are beatable at the NSS. Still got faith in our 1-7, the very same 1-7 that started our very first EL fixture at the NSS. Come On You ACESSSSSSSS. ps no need for Swindon fans to remind me of the result, I was there. Will there be someone on the turnstyles??😆😂Off the subject will the Aces be promoting young Bewley into there side in 2017? Prince Regent
Pearson always thinks Wolverhampton is packed out because they only use the middle part of the home straight (don't they?). At Lakeside, it's always difficult to measure the crowd because people tend to spread out around different parts of the stadium.
Sidney the robin
I hope they don't not ready for elite league yet If Clegg , Nielsen , (ect) are holding there own i think Bewley with PL racing could hold his own to surely Belle Vues best prospect since A.Smith, and Screeny.Saying that your main concern probably is you don't want to screw up the lads confidence but he looks a real talent.

Yes, you have to get up close and personal with your fellow Speedway fans at Wolves.
