SomersetBlue
Well I have a feeling it's going to be one big league with perhaps a north south divide. No Lakeside, Liecester will drop as well imo, other teams will maybe not ride.

I don't think there would be enough riders to go around even if it was 6 a side given the number of PL riders that are currently in the EL also. Add in the number that don't bother as they wouldn't be able to do it full time with only one UK team. It would only open the floodgates to questionable imports & ensure non-progressing journeymen kept their places also.
Andrew
Wilson Complin Scud Moore Stead Birkinshaw Ashworth  What a team that was, also remember Lee Redmond and Adam Allott jumping in there somewhere.  I know this has nothing to do with 2017.... but this is the team i first saw when i very first started coming to Sheffield, amazing memories. Thats the 2002 team and much like Somerset this season,no one really gave it much of a chance!  Redmond and Allott rode in 2001 though. Clegg & T Kurtz first 2 imo. Clegg maybe, notsure what Todd Kurtz would bring,Brady on the other hand...
Gresham
I for one hope they stay PL...if they do go Elite, I'll be going to a lot less meetings. Can't stand the elite league. Â I really can't see the point of going into the EL. It's less entertaining, costs more and dying on it's feet. Â At least the PL is exciting. Â Somerset v Swindon would be interesting...how would that work lol ;-) Edited November 1, 2016 by Gresham

montie
Somerset going into the Elite League would be suicidal in my view. Kiss of death !!! .  I dont think so,smart move i think,no local derby left for them in the PL,Swindon,Poole etc close to them,Midlands not far away and no trips to Scotland!!  add in the sky money i think it is a very smart move for them, plus i can the the EL being a weaker products next year so i think they will do well  Dont right them off to win it either!
szkocjasid
Hope the limit stays the same for 2017. First and foremost the track needs sorting out; racing entertainment has been poor this year. Â From Steadys interview I reckon he will be hanging up his kevlars and to be fair who can blame him with the injuries he has had. He's provided fantastic entertainment at Owlerton and elsewhere over the years and I wish him well for the future. Definitely one of the best riders I have ever seen around Owlerton. Â Maybe Sheffield will make the step up to the Elite? Although I hope they stay Premier league as long as the points limit isn't diluted. Â Looked through the averages and the team I would love to see is: Â 1.Grajczonek 2.Bates 3.Howarth 4.L.Bjerre 5.Garrity 6.J.Smith 7.JPB Â That's if they come under the 42.5 limit. Â Sounds like Howarth and Bates are going to be back and I would have thought JPB is nailed on too.. Â Maybe a risk at reserve having 2, 3pt riders but they have rode with each other all year with great results and are improving all the time. Â The top 5 should all at least maintain and improve there averages. Â Sure I'll be way off though. 1.Grajczonek 8.90 2.Bates 5.02 3.Howarth 7.18 4.L.Bjerre 6.65 5.Garrity 8.55 6.J.Smith 3.00 7.JPB 3.00 I make that team come in at 42.30! Looks a tidy team but cant see Jason being back.We need Jack Lee back as team manager aswell.

I agree with around the boards (again) the EL is not the place for Somerset. If they were to re-brand as the Bristol Bulldogs & spent big time on advertising that could work? GS550
Well I have a feeling it's going to be one big league with perhaps a north south divide. Â Not for me, i find regional divides utterly boring. I would stop attending speedway altogether if that happened, I want to see various teams from all over not the same teams all the time, just boring. Shale Searcher
A couple of questions for you Sheffieldites; Â 1) What's the injury to Steady? And how did he do it? Â 2) What's kicked off with Jason Garrity and Josh Bates? (fallen out) / (Lost Driving License) / (Other) Â Cheers.. SS
Cue Ball
Steady's steel shoe bent in half in a crash and hurt his foot - nothing broken as far as I'm aware. Â Not aware of an issue between Josh and Jason. Allegedly Jason fell out with Boocock, but he also allegedly had a van taken off him by a sponsor - neither of which he ever had, so who knows!! He has been in the pits with wrist strapped up helping Greaves for the past few home meetings.

 2) What's kicked off with Jason Garrity and Josh Bates? (fallen out) / (Lost Driving License) / (Other)  Cheers.. SS Steady's injury happened at Rye House in the league match, he and Dimitri Berge were comfortably leading a race and Steady overlocked going into the first bend on the second lap and Berge clattered into him and bent his steel shoe and left him in agony and a season ending foot injury.  Re Garrity, DON'T KNOW

Re Garrity, DON'T KNOW Don't know what's happening with Garrity, but as someone who has been sponsoring Berwick riders, I have been told if he comes to Berwick, to stay well clear of him as far as sponsorship is concerned.
FAST GATER
IMO Stead has had one too many injuries of a serious nature would have finished many a rider before now and his form this last season has been up and down by his high standards .Nothing to prove time for him to move on with his reputation in tact and more importantly still in one piece great rider but his best days are behind him .
4thbender
It seems that next year we'll be riding in a smaller league (the Championship) consisting of Berwick, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Ipswich, Newcastle, Peterborough, Redcar, Scunthorpe, Sheffield, and possibly Workington. We'll be racing on a 2 x home and 2 x away basis, with automatic promotion for the champions to the higher league (Premiership). Rye House and Somerset have opted for the Premiership in 2017. Â Crucially, we'll only have 40 points to play with in building a team.
RS50
With any rider who has not achieved a 3 point average, coming in on a minimum of 2, would it be worth a risk going with JPB, Jack Smith and Arthur?, hopefully all 3 can improve their averages, leaving room for a strong top 4.
Andrew
I think the two Jacks would be on 3 as they haven't ridden in the former PL while Nathan Greaves (for example) has and failed to reach 3.00 (current green sheet 2.32) so I assume that what these lines the statement refers to..  "The only difference in team building rules between the leagues is that Championship clubs must include a British youngster with a three-point average. And in a bid to help young riders get team spots, any rider who hasn’t achieved a three-point average will come in on a minimum of 2."  As ever Its not entirely clear.  And I see we've "drawn" Edinburgh again!
