Sheffield 2017

Why is it Sheffield Speedway do not offer concessions to Students? Two major universities and many colleges and you expect them to pay full adult price, defo missing a trick here- and yes I do have a daughter at University of Sheffield and resent paying on top of her fees , loans, housing etc that I already pay to the Sheffield economy.

Concessions for students were being seriously abused, so they were scrapped.

Here's to hoping Shanes signs this week, he is an absolute steal on a 2.00 average and could probably be the ingredient the team is missing to push on and win some silverware.

He was quality today at Peterborough and deserved even more points for his efforts.

Have to agree let JPB concentrate on rack up the points and captaining Birmingham in the National league for this season plenty of time for him to come back in the future.

Shanes is someone who is capable of doubling a 2 point average.

Any news on the team line ups for Thursdays' meeting? Would love to hear that James Shanes had been signed for the remainder of the season. Made all the difference at Peterborough on Sunday.

Got to agree that Shane's would give Sheffield a chance of a title. Sadly super star JPB not.

The issue of who's going to be the Tigers number 7 seems to have been side-lined by the promotion, in June 10th S/S it was reported that Shanes was to be signed to replace JPB, as long as he wasn't going to miss too many dates. That was supposedly according to Damian Bates. Since then he has ridden for us once, as a guest and was brilliant, contributing to a very good away win.

The other guests (with all due respect to them for turning out and riding) might as well not have bothered. With someone decent in that position we could well have won at both Edinburgh and Newcastle and to a lesser extent Scunthorpe. If not signing Shanes then someone's going to have to put an arm around JPB and tell him to man up (soon be 17) and get back out on track and try harder.

Ok he's not been showing his NL form in the Championship, but he's a much better rider than the guys that have been guesting (other than Shanes), and would have no doubt put points into the Tigers totals of the last few meetings.

If the promotion wants some silverware this year they're going to have to sort out this situation and it's fast coming down on them as the 28 day facility is coming to its end!

Agree, JPB stepping down for me seemed totally like the wrong decision... 16 years of age with so much still to learn and he more or less threw his toys out the pram and gave up?

The last meeting he rode for us which was Edinburgh at home in the KOC, I believe Howarth, Branford, Steady and possibly Grajczonek were all looking at his bikes and testing them on track. Seems like they clearly said there was nothing wrong with his equipment and it was just him. He should be kicking himself and wanting to try harder and be hungry to learn more and progress as a rider on a personal level in the Championship.

I'd love to know whats happening behind the scenes about who we're bringing in, seems like a deal clearly couldn't be agreed between Shanes and Bates or he would have signed for us by now I reckon (hope thats not the truth though).

Just my personal opinion, but I can't see JPB coming back to Sheffield any time soon. The Promotion have paid out a lot of money to set him up to ride for Sheffield, and he has just thrown in the towel and walked away. He needs to grow up, listen to the right people, such as riders who have done well in their careers, and review who he has in his backroom team. He isn't being advised correctly.

Agree 100% can't see him back ever

I believe Shanes may have an average now which would rule him out of being able to sign. This promotion don't mess about so they'll be doing everything they can to find someone capable of doing a job, of that I have no doubt.

As for JPB it's a real shame - for himself and the team of course. But if he's not happy riding at Sheffield for whatever reason, we can only wish him luck for the rest of his career.

Now seems unlikely that Shanes will be coming to Sheffield. Just looked at NL averages, and there does not appear to be too many options, who could get a few decent points at Championship level. Just hope JPB can be persuaded back. I think given time he can change his fortunes around. Also think it would be good for him to have a team manager, like Stead, who can pass on good advice to him.

Speaking personally, I would be grateful if the Sheffield promoters, gave us some idea about when the outstanding fixtures to be arranged may be taking place. Seem quick to make the call off, but now nearly 10 weeks since the Edinburgh match called off, and still nothing announced. I believe we now have 3 outstanding, Ipswich, cup, and Newcastle and Edinburgh league. Keep hearing about the advantages of early call off, but are there not equally, good reasons, to get them re-arranged quickly (before fans may have decided to do something else on that date).

I have just noticed today that the reserved date of 6 July 2017, has been removed from the fixtures. Wonder what it was reserved for, if not to stage a match rained off, or an extra fixture due to cup progression. A bit of goodwill in letting us know would be appreciated.

Shame with the situation with Shanes, he'd have been the only real worthwhile signing out there and unfortunately will more than likely not be happening now. But we do need to make a signing and only riders I can think of out there really are the likes of Stoneman or possibly Knight if he'd be on a 2.

Or we could look further a field at one of Spiller brother's? Although I'd imagine if either wanted to ride in the British league's they'd be over here already.

Stoneman will be in.

Knight would be a better shout though if his average is 2

Stoneman could be the pick of what appears to be available, could be his chance to shine on Thursday.

Knight could well be a possibility as he is an asset of the club as well, but I am not sure as to whether or not wants another crack at this level.

Or maybe there is another candidate around that nobody has thought of.
