Kelvin And The Agm

Recommended Posts

Kelvin Tatum raised few eyebrows in Speedwáy Star recently when he expressed uncertainty about whether he would return to Lakeside next year. He said he wasn't saying yes and he wasn't saying no, he just wants time to think about over the winter. He expanded on theses thoughts in Friday's programme and the problem seems to me, from what he wrote, is the way the sport is being run.

He wrote:- "As for my own role, it's one I have thoroughly enjoyed most of the time and it's been good being so heavily involved in a different capacity once again.

This in my opinion is the biggest AGM coming up for a long time. There are plenty of big, key decisions that need to be made regarding league and team structure and only once that has been done only then will I make a decision regarding continuing my role here next year "

I don't want to read more into it than what is there, but combining those comments with what was reported in Speedwáy Star, it seems to be that for a variety of reasons, not least the EDR system, it seems to be in line with my own view that the league is not a level playing field and some teams have built in advantages over others. That's just my impression and I could be wrong.

Any sensible thoughts ?

Are you serious - the EL is not a level playing field and some teams have built in advantages over others !!!!!

It never ever has been a level playing field that's why the sport lurches from one disaster to another and is in the mess it's in, massive self interest MC and BSPA, spineless SCB and a complete joke of a rulebook which enables the 8th best rider currently in the world to get his average reduced by nearly a point so he can sign for Poole to enable them to win the EL title yet again.

Biggest AGM too come we all know nothing will happen it never does, and what ever does happen is a complete balls up anyway I have zero faith in these AGM meetings same s**t! different year. Say it every year an independent board until this happens it will always be a farce!

Anyone think they can prove us wrong this year??

BCD is spot on, every year we hear the same thing "this is the biggest AGM blah blah blah) nout ever is really done, some minor tinkering that is all, the rest of the time they are too busy trying to find a way to change a rule which will allow them to field a team they have in their minds, always for the good of their own clubs and not what is in the best interest of the sport, stick another plaster on it and it will be ok, the patient though needs a major operation!

Of course its not a level playing field. Never has been never will be. There are always the haves and have nots. Every team sport is the same. Premier football. Players want to go tomArsenal or Man City, not Stoke or WBA.

Riders want the same. Bigger club, good pay and success. At least speedway keeps things closer with points limit. Every club has to build to the same.

Now that Lakeside have qualified I don't think Sky's commentary team is a level playing field either.

I have to say Kelvin has been remarkably unbiased when discussions or meetings involving Lakeside are concerned. Ultra professional. I don't see anything changing.

Then messes about with the way it applies to different clubs at different times.

Why keep moaning about the AGM? The members are the people who own Speedway in this country and some of them have invested huge amounts of money to keep things going. If some of you got half the things you wanted it still wouldn't add significantly to the turnstiles. It would help if there were more 'proper' race tracks like Belle Vue and more tracks that were accessible by public transport, but there aren't and there is unlikely ever going to be, so we're stuck with rubbish like Lakeside, Leicester and Eastbourne (I'm entitled to my opinion) and no amount of tinkering with the averages will make such places worth visiting (again my opinion). Someone mentioned the EDR system, personally I would simplify it by having every EL side have at least one British under 25 rider and every PL team have at least one under 21 British rider, irrespective of whether the rider was heat leader, reserve or second string.

KT talks a lot of sense IMO he really appears to have the best interests of the sport at heart ,he should be given a role within the sport where he can influence changes that will improve the sport .Failing that he should sign for B/Vue next season you can tell from his commentaries there that he is desperate to race at the NSS track ,I am only joking of course but this yet again is an example of his genuine love of the sport .

Matt is Kelvin's mate - they are always saying on Sky clubs should aspire to the way Matt runs the Poole business.

NB. As for the AGM, didn't the BSPA try to bring it forward to October so that clubs and riders knew the format before heading of to Oz or wherever - but then realised that their constitution didn't allow them to ratify any certain changes until November?!

Not sure if they've amended their constitution now, but recent references in the Speedway Star still refer to the AGM being in November!!

Having said that, the AGM should only be a 'rubber-stamping exercise' as the promoters always have a series of 'pre-AGM' gatherings to discuss all the likely major decisions!

Would be interesting to see how their friendship developed if KT had true influence over the running of the sport !!!!

Tatum thinking of quitting as our 'Motivational Coach'?

The role model that was going to share his wisdom, expertise and knowledge in order for us to improve our performances away from home?

Apart from 2 wins at a woefully weak Leicester, we didn't pick up A SINGLE AWAY POINT throughout the season. In fact, as per usual; on many occasions, we've been an embarrassment.

Added to which reading between the lines pre-season, Tatum wanted Kim Nilsson dropped. Let's see now; who next to AJ has been our most consistent (often at Arena, prolific) rider?

Tatum talks a good story BUT if the 'proof of the pudding is in the eating' then we're still suffering from malnutrition.

Absolute waste of a wage packet; not only in my opinion - but because a season's worth of (dire away) results don't lie.
