Swindon 2017

Recommended Posts

Zengota is 7.79 according to the latest averages, which was his average from 2015. Kildemand's average from 2016 is 7.1 - and given his form, I wouldn't be surprised if he couldn't be tempted back.

As any rider actually been stopped from signing by this "rule" or is it simply an excuse used by certain riders to avoid riding in the UK?

Killer was going to ride for Somerset before the rule was made & he has gone backwards since not riding here.

Doyle doesn't ride for Australia tonight. Nick appears to be which makes the bspa 9 day ruling for concussion seem pointless to me know. 9 days would rule him out until tomorrow. FIM must be different?!

That would be about right that the speedway authorities have different time frames for concussion.

Only in speedway🤔🤔

It is different which is why I raised the question the other day about who decides the time period after a bout of concussion. I was talking to Nick thurs and after practice on thurs and a medical check up he could have ridden if cleared to.

You would have thought that all leagues would follow an FIM guideline whatever that is.

Seems an odd signing given the 6 and 7-point assets we already have and don't use. Would you pick Bellego ahead of Kildemand or Zengota for example?

Surely it's more a case of which of them is more likely to want to sign for Swindon? And maybe they got Bellego on the cheap?

If there was not a team limit and the top riders were prepared to tell Poland to stuff their rule I think Killer would be back at Swindon.

Nick said on Thursday night that FIM & BSPA rules on concussion are different, with the FIM, a scan & a medical are required. This makes sense to me rather than an arbitrary 9 days, as in some cases 9 days may be insufficient & with the rider not being scanned, there may be problems that are not apparent at the time.

Based on guaranteed availability, probably yes as I believe there is more improvement to come from David.. You say you would make 2 changes but based on what I've seen over the last few meetings, there is definite improvement from the bottom end riders & the only change I would consider would be Grapmier, due to the possible unavailability in case of re-arranged fixtures.

I missed what nick said Thursday as I was at the bar & couldn't hear what was being said. I do think it's strange that the bspa have adopted different rules to the FIM. If a brain scan is good enough for them then why wasn't it for the bspa which is what Nick had prior to our meeting. Oh well.

None of the riders will go against their main money earner. Unless they are sacked of course.

Perhaps our insurers have different views on concussed riders racing than the FIM's insurers?

Or stop getting paid - from Skidder post

It would only take the top two or three riders in the world to ignore the Polish ruling for the Polish authority to change its mind.

True.

I wish they would too!

Funny that not one of them has defied the Polish authorities tho isn't it?!

Wonder if they will next season when they enforce the 1 other country rule??

Did not know they were thinking of restricting the riders choices even more. The riders may well ignore the restriction, it would only take a few. Just wait for the money to run out in Poland, then the riders will tell them where to go.

Possibly but I think it's more likely the British Special Prats Association. I find it difficult to believe that insurers would ignore medical advise & a scan. I know that when I renew my annual travel insurance, all the questions relating to my illnesses are just a tick box procedure & as long as you answer them honestly, no problems!

Several weeks ago in the Speedy Star there was an interview with one of Poland's senior administrators - it may have been the Torun chief? - who suggested that the aim of their Extraleague was to have ONLY Polish riders in it. That may be a couple of years away yet even if its still their aim(?), but what are the 'top' riders going to do then? Not sure that Sweden is financially secure enough to pay out even more than they do now, so the top riders will have to lower their own financial aspirations if they want to ride anywhere!!

That'll give GB promoters a bit more negotiating clout as they'll be in a stronger position to say 'take it or leave it' to the riders!

I think you'll find that such decision making is on the basis of he advice of the medical profession and the sport's insurers than a bunch of small-time businessmen.

Still, believe what you wish to believe.

Think they would have happily brought that rule in for this year but that's the plan.

They made all riders and other nations clubs sign contacts as well.

The riders need to tell em to go swivel !
