Lakeside Vs Belle Vue, 21/9/16...

Ace no.5

Recommended Posts

At the fans forum in February, Kelvin said he wanted the track to be prepared the same way for every meeting, as far as the weather allows, at not to keep changing things, that's the way riders get used to a track and learn how to ride it with confidence. Jon Cook was sitting next to him when he said it. That's what has been done most of the season and we have seen some great racing this year. Then we get to the most meeting of the season, in front of a TV audience and the local MP , Kelvin is missing, Cook is in charge and we get that pile of sludge, because the tried and tested method that worked so well all season has not been followed. As a result we saw, for example Kennett and Bridger not being able to pull off those sweeps round the outside that have brought so many points this year.

I'm not a fan of the Sky playoffs but if my team attach so much importance to it and busted a gut to get the final place last week I would have expected the same track prep not somethng Ronnie Russell would have opted for. Oh bugger! I would be interested to hear the opinions of Edward Kim and Lewis B after their struggles to come to terms with that track.

I didn't expect Lakeside to go through but at least to put up a good fight but after all that build up and now in front of the TV cameras a huge opportunity was missed.

Incidently doesn't Gerald Richter prepare both Arena and Poole? Which one did her choose?

The blame lays firmly at Jon Cooks door.

I support Jon Cook on most things, most of the time but he is the man in charge, the buck stops with him, and he has fouled up big time.

Personally I am furious. I need the winter to calm down. As I feel at the moment I might consider the Rye House option next year, but we'll see what the winter brings. Cook is not my favourite person right now though.

KK would likely have hit double figures but he was apparently booked to ride in Poland. King was asked but wanted to take up Sky's offer. The others mention probably couldn't be guaranteed to score more than six between them. Based on past performances Hougaard might have done, Morris might have done but no guarantee , far from it.

If that was Cook that decided to have the track prepared like that then he royally messed up. By far the worst meeting of the season.

Now i will admit i have never been a fan of Mr Cook since his exploits at Eastbourne but i really do think he has mugged the loyal Hammers fans off for the last time, he had no intention whatsoever of making a fist of the play offs, he wanted the semi final for the money, claimed he had a plan to replace AJ which was nothing more than a rouse so he could subsequently come out and say because AJ wanted to ride the second leg (guess what KK is now confirmed as the guest) so he could not bring in a new face, just total lies so more of the purse would likely fall into his own pocket and not that of a guest rider or proper replacement.

Its one failed promise after another with the man, and the whole thing stinks of its his toy (actually its Stuart toy Jon) and if you don't like it tough, in fact we should be honoured we are allowed to pay to come in and watch, that is the feeling from watching this and recent seasons I have got (even at the start of the this season when things were seemingly going good) its just not the same as back in the Arena Essex days when I felt part of the club even if at times we led a very humble existence indeed.

I have no intention of returning there whilst that man is still holding the fort, I can live without Lakeside Speedway, but he can't live without the fans.

He won't have to- Loyal supporters will still be going. I don't think the rabid nutters on here will be missed a bit. That's supposing that they are let out for long enough to even attend meetings

The track was a bit too slick last night, but everyone did their best.

Up the Hammers!

Tried to match Fridays track as they all went so well but a track

after heavy rain and one after heavy watering not the same, all I

can say is tried but failed.re zagar my boy was on the gate and

zagar asked to come off cook told him no but my boy had to open

the gate to let the mechanics on and he pushes himself through so

self inflicted by the long streak of piss. as for lakeside we don't

have the best of luck as apart from last year we are there or there about

the playoffs and always have a run of injurys at the end of seasons and

as we don't have matt fords deep pockets it is always going to be hard.

but I still love and back my club 100% and as for Monday stranger things

have happened COME ON YOU HAMMERS.

PS heard something last night which could be fantastic for the years ahesd

so keep the faith hammers fans.

It seems that quite a few fans are not too happy with the proposed coverage of the 2nd leg and this has been reported back. So watch this space but whatever happens all the key heats and incidents will be covered

Sky speedway have tweeted today that all 30 heats will be shown next monday.

Also tweeted that louis and king there to commentate with sophie in the pits, so looks like a change of mind about not showing all the meeting.

TBF I think in his mind he had every intention of going through, it's just that he is getting the way Len Silver went years ago.

It reminded me of a meeting against Coventry few years ago when the track was done and ready to race and Cook came out and for reasons best known to himself picked up a hose and started watering the start area and n

messed it all up. Lakeside then lost a meeting they should have one.

I still like the atmosphere, I like the riders, and I like most of the fans but Cookie has got to get his act together.

A couple of things from last night;

1 It may seem minor but the confusion in betting circles that Zagar finished 3rd in heat 1 ,but was confirmed on screen that worell was 3rd,and also carried on speedway updates.Surely in this day and age the betting companies need to have a 100% official correct result from heats .There is so much you can bet on in speedway,in running with riders scores etc,you just cant afford to put the wrong result up on screen to be backed up but what is normally a very good updates service.IT was clearly wrong, and a lot of confusion set in.

2 How lewis Bidgers helmets passed the referee check is just stupid.Again its just confusing to the new fan that his helmets had yellow peak followed by the colour of helmet.People will say this is just a minor issue but again its causing confusion when there doesnt need to be any confusion.

Anyway rant over

Let's get real. Sophie probably travels in the van with Scotty and maybe even Chris too. Add to that the fact that the manager of the away team will be commentating and you can see what a cobbled up job this is.

I'm still amazed at Kelvin's neutrality but now I can add to that the fact that Scotty doesn't look at Sophie when being interviewed. Fantastic TV

An extra televised meeting and the revenue it brings in, is probably more important to lakeside than qualifying for the final. I get the impression they run a tight ship at arena and need to balance the books. I was at the meeting last night, and the tricky track conditions definitely hindered the home side. With Jonsson and a consistent surface the hammers might have nicked a narrow home win.

Feel for you, but also it must have been gut wrenching for Kelvin based on the above, I must say that he did a throughly professional job commentating on TV under the circumstances. Having got the the play off's and then see your best efforts go down the pan through someone else's interference must be hard to take. To see it unfold before you and not be able to say anything or express other emotions must be, well, hard! Can understand him not making any immediate decisions regarding his future there.

Not sure what this post is actually about?

Sorry for not taking this minority sport as seriously as I'm supposed to but my emphasis on triviality surely fits the bill. It now appears that our track curator preferred Poole to his original track such was his judgement that his presence at Arena would not be worthwhile.

Sorry for causing confusion but the playoffs are an irrelevence and my club has shown that it was nothing more than an achievement to get there. BV won the league. I hope they win the Sky playoffs too.

PS Our impartial team manager will be at Monmer (sic) Green :t:

Don't know what the heck you are on about "jim3751" but you are totally and utterly wrong in your comment about where the track curator was on Wednesday.

Gerald was at Lakey, as you know.

A choice of t wo possibilities there. Either Gerald has a twin brother driving the tractor at Lakeside on Wedbesday, or else it was Gerald himself driving the tractor and you are telling porkies about him being at Poole.

Hmm.... Anybody ever seen or heard of Gerald having a twin brother? No, thought not. Caught out telling porkies it is then.
