Lakeside V Swindon 16 Sept 2016

Get a few on standby today, that would mean two days notice

So a club has to pay a few riders to be on standby for a meeting that may not take place, also the team line up needs to be posted with the bspa in advance of the meeting taking place. Many EL riders ride abroad at the weekend and many PL riders race for their own clubs. Five out of the seven Swindon riders also ride for other clubs, a lot of whom race on a Sat.

As the play -off semis don't start until Wednesday I suppose it is perfectly possible that the cut-off date could be extended although it wouldn't suit many. Saturday, Swindon's three Somerset riders are in action, Sunday, Richard Lawson will be riding for Glasgow and Ben Morley, Rye House Raiders, whilst Monday Rye House are at home to Scunthorpe. Tuesday is a possibility as all would be available but might be considered too near.

Says on the Hammers site plans are in place to negate the weather during the day, whether that is covers of some sort or simply they will pack the track I don't know, this sort of weather is unpredictable, a storm could spring from out of nowhere and monsoon the track or heavy rain could fall within a couple of miles missing the track and leaving it unscathed.

Will Kennett be fit for Lakeside? He pulled out of the PLRC at the weekend and missed Ryes 2 matches since.

No news one way or the other on the Lakeside site so possibly a late fitness test which is not usually a good sign.

It will be devastating to the Hammers to go into the meeting with R/R for Ed in view of his form over the last couple of months,it will mean a reserve taking at least one of his rides which is not good. Swindon already in the driving seat since Lakkeside lost AJ , if they lose Ed as well, it will be a near impossible task

Although, this is an important fixture, and as a Swindon fan, I would rather the meeting was raced to a conclusion and it was determined on merit not the weather I can't help feeling that the speedway promoters in this country need a bloody good shooing.

It should be a piece of p*** to run 14 fixtures between the beginning of April to the middle of September. Yet, none of them are capable of organising a trip to the brewery. Poole fans moaned about the lack of speedway action in the summer months and it has been the same at Swindon. Now we are talking about an important fixture, possibly, not being run before the cut off date, which would lead to a highly unsatisfactory finish to the season. It has big ramifications for both sides as there is a decent gate to be had for them in he semi irrespective of who they meet, and of course, as unlikely as it is for these two, a shot at the title.

Part of me would empathise with The Hammers if that was the case but the reverse of that is they have had 7 fixtures to fit in since the beginning of June, so there should be absolutely no excuses, whatever the rider availability.

Whatever happens, these idiots will make the same mistake next year and the year after so is there actually any point getting wound up?
