Lakeside V Swindon 16 Sept 2016

Recommended Posts

All to play for, can Swindon get a point? I doubt Swindon would be cannon fodder if Doyle rides like he does in the GP's at Belle Vue. Belle Vue have top spot so they have the choice, would they choose Swindon or would they rather knock Poole out in the Semi before Andersen is fit and while Tungate can't guest because he'll be busy.

Lakeside (or the weather) have to be favourites as it hasn't been a good venue for Swindon results. If it goes ahead, I would be very surprised if Swindon left with at least a point. The chance they had of the point was at BV and that didn't happen

I am sure Swindon are more than capable of getting a point. According to the forecast rain should stop in time to give Lakeside a chance of sorting the track. I went once when there was a downpour mid meeting so it seems to have good drainage

But the Roobins don't do well in the wet :(

I do hope that the weather does not decide who makes 4th spot in the Play-offs, and ruin the prospect of an exciting contest between the two teams.

With my BV hat on, I have now come around to thinking that, irrespective of which team triumphs on the night, BV should pick the winner to meet in the semis, I did think that a financial semi with Wolves was the way to go, but surely you must give yourselves the best chance of reaching the final. That is not to say I think it will be a walkover for BV no matter who they meet, as it will be a KO situation, and whoever is riding best on the two nights will triumph, one bad display and you are more or less out of the competition.

If Swindon do go out, I am worried about the prospect of Tungate being used as a guest around BV, his scores at BV have been very consistent.

Poole will have to beat Wolves in the semi before they can use Tungate as a guest at Belle Vue 😉

Wooden spoon you are 100% correct, Aces should pick the team they feel gives them the best chance of making the final, I think that they will be secretly hoping Lakeside make it then pick them off in the semi finals, Nicholls helping Hammers to get there and getting in some vital practice ahead of the semi final, however Swindon won't be wanting to go off that particular script and Lakeside will have to beat the weather before they worry about beating Swindon, either way I doubt even if it goes ahead the track will be how it normally is which will be advantage Swindon.

Surely the sensible thing to do if the meeting cannot go ahead tomorrow is to extend the play-off deadline by a mere 24 hours and run the meeting Saturday.

I doubt that is an option, the stadium is used most weekends for four wheeled motorsports, drifting and other events, speedway is just a fraction of what goes on their.

Most of Swindons riders are racing elsewhere on Saturday, mind you if we can get all the guests Poole had when they beat Lakeside it would be good, but it is too short notice to arrange.

Racing Sat night is not an option, Lakeside should have sorted the meeting before the cut off day.

I don't understand the fixture list really.

Here is a key play off meetng being staged right on cut off under risk from the weather.

Swindon finished their home fixtures ages ago and have been putting on fillers and seemed to have barely any home matches over the summer holidays.

Very odd

Ricky Wells was one of the guests. Not sure who the others were though.

If Manchester city can delay a match for 24 hours I am sure lakeside could also.

It would seem to be the sensible option.

This is the A fixture that was rained off months ago. Rider availability caused the delay in restating. Both sides had a rider committed to the GP's and SWC, and Swindon have a number of riders committed to PL clubs that race Friday's.

This has to change next year. If there is a rain off and it can't be restaged within say two months the clubs will have to go with what they can muster
