foamfence
Should have had one big league IMO.This doubling up and down nonsense makes it all a bit of a farce . I think that'll happen, the way some clubs are struggling.
Bandit59
Of course there's 'little difference' that's why they have a promotion/relegation play-off at the end of the season and the 50 point team building level will be reduced to 42 after the first averages. Been proven promotion/relegation does not work

Icicle
It might work this time around, going by the strengths/ weakness of both leagues (e.g. Somerset look passable in either league).
Bandit59
Just say Glasgow won the league would they want to go up and lose the local derbies ? Edited December 6, 2016 by Bandit59
topsoil
For promotion to work there has to be an incentive. Normally promotion leads to more income for a club, a TV deal, bigger crowds, but where is the incentive in speedway? For example, if Berwick won promotion (just imagine :-)) would the crowds get significantly bigger? Okay they might get the odd appearance on Sky, but would that cover the much bigger costs involved in the higher division? All good in theory promotion and relegation.

AskTerry Linden,I'm sure some riders didn't get paid what they were promised, but more importantly don't think the crowds at Berrington were covering the cost of running in the higher league. The trouble with speedway is Promotions don't like to divulged running costs ,they only tell fans when they lose money .As the leagues stand at the moment any Team in the Champoinship would have to think twice regarding Promotion with all the local derbies that would be lost.Unless of course they get a massive financial incentive to move up,but we will never know that answer.Rye House looks a good example, who is covering the cost of that Team this season, will the Promotion make a profit or are the willing to take the hit if things turn out loss making.Dont think Kelvin and Jimmy would be cheap in that Berrington Era .The racing was great though while it lasted. The 'costs' shouldn't be significantly different, change the number seven for a more experienced rider (remember that the Premiership ave is to be reduced to 42) and that's it. Just say Glasgow won the league would they want to go up and lose the local derbies ? They don't have the option, all clubs have agreed to commit to the new set-up. foamfence
Exactly,it would be easy to lose the play off if the were that way inclined ! It certainly would but it wouldn't be in the spirit of competition. If fans are happy for their club to be nothing more than a side show then fair enough. Possibly so, I would have preferred one league but you are in the competition that you are in and it is meant to be a sport, not a circus act.
