I think that was the 1985 British Open at Wolverhampton. According to the yearbook it took 4 hours to run that meeting. allthegearbutnaeidea
One of the Welsh Opens at Newport, about 2010. Went on forever, didn't help I was hungover and it's was boiling hot. There was one heat that took an hour a 5 minutes to run with about 6 re-runs!Aye and I had to drive to Berwick hungover after it, they ran out of water and I left before the semi final/s, I got home just as Iniesta scored the winner for Spain in the World Cup Final, which would be around 9.45, I kind of miss my Sunday's after Cardiff at Newport but I regret going to that Welsh Open that's for sure, ruined my plans of going out to the pub to watch the game

R87
The British Finals at Monmore. It got to the point where you didnt care who won the meeting, you just wanted it to end. I love my speedway, but not enough to enjoy watching it at 11pm.
arnieg
Slightly different, but I went to a meeting that ended at 11.50 pm recently. Can anyone recall a meeting reaching midnight?
Mike.Butler
Tony will probably confirm but I believe a late 70's double header at White City might have been very close to midnight Edited September 15, 2016 by Mike.Butler

Thank you Dave, that's the 4TT tournament I was referring to - they had multiple drop outs from the original line up too because of the re-arranged World Pairs meeting the afternoon before (the Jancarz/Nielsen meeting, in my opinion THAT was Tore Kittilsen's biggest mistake, never mind LA 1982!!!) Having said that, Zenon Plech managed it! So in the end it was a success in that all teams came with replacements and the meetings went smoothly. Crikey, I'd forgotten about that British Open at Wolverhampton. I was at that, seem to remember not getting back on the coach until about 8pm, and would assume it was a 3pm start, I know it was a Sunday. *JJ
I was there - 48 heats. That's nothing. In the amateur racing, there can be up to 110 heats! (Yes - one hundred and ten ...)
Gemini
Slightly different, but I went to a meeting that ended at 11.50 pm recently. Can anyone recall a meeting reaching midnight? Perhaps the Brandonapolis 2013 was it? I don't know exactly what time it ended because I gave up at the semi-final stage when Chris Harris hit the fence and there was another delay. Mind you I might as well just have waited because it took me ages to find a way out as cars were blocking every exit I tried.
moomin man 76
If you were to include the micro and mini-speedway races at this year's Finnish Championship at Hyvinkaa, the meeting started at 11.30am and finished c.6.30pm. Even if you were to only include the qualifying races and the final a five hour marathon from 1.30pm-6.30pm takes some beating for around twenty five heats of speedway. Of course, the situation was not helped by a huge rain storm after heat eighteen, which resulted in the whole track having to be rebuilt with the wet dirt scraped off the the surface. Tsunami
Slightly different, but I went to a meeting that ended at 11.50 pm recently. Can anyone recall a meeting reaching midnight? Dave Goddard
This may not quite count, but I recall from 1998 a King's Lynn v Ipswich meeting which was scheduled to start at 7.30pm but there was a heavy rainstorm shortly before the start. The Lynn track team bladed the whole of the track off and the meeting eventually started at 9.45pm, finishing at 11.15pm, and the fans stuck it out and waited through it all. The score? King's Lynn 27 Ipswich 63!
racers and royals
Was that not the one I mentioned earlier. It was on SKY and it was the World U21 round at Kings Lynn. It was a stream done for onesport- it wasn't on SKY

Dave Stummings
Recall a double header at London's White City in the seventies and I remember watching the last race (26th race) and after running to the nearby White City tube station to get the last train back to Stratford. It must have been near midnight finish, so could this be the latest ever finish to a meeting in the UK?
