King's Lynn Stars 2017

Recommended Posts

Don't think our Poole friends will like what Noddy had to say to the local paper LYNN NEWS this week he more or less says he is `at King's Lynn until they kick him out.

Congratulations. On a forum which arguably sees more than its fair share of fabrication, you have just raised the bar to new heights.

Can you point me to where he says that?

Think you should changes your name to bullsheeetBilly.

Your wrong there, very few meetings are gate and go at Poole, most meetings have plenty of passing.

Been twice while holidaying in the area. V Peterborough 2012 and Lakeside 2016. Both utterly pass less.

But that's enough to form a opinion that it's a gater's track!!

I, like you, thought he was talking about Leicesters track, but it seems he was talking about Wimborne Road. If he saw no passing at two meetings at Poole he was extremely unlucky as we get passing in most heats.

Although not always when SKY are there.

And before you make a quip in return I'm a fan of the Poole track and often said so.

It's one of my favourite tracks to visit to watch.

But it could be better..

I've been to Wimborne Rd twice, both meetings were forgettable. P'boro in 2012 and Lakeside in 2016. Their have been some exceptional races on the track on Sky, notably during the SWC whenever they hosted it (2004?) and Harris's superhuman play-offs.

But this is a Kings Lynn thread, so lets get back to matters at Saddlebow Road.

Good idea Col. What is your view on the Lynn track over the past couple of season. Gaters paradise now ?

My opinion is that Saddlebow Road changed when it was in the PL, used to see a lot of great meetings there. Went to see Poole there in the final meeting when Peterborough won the league in 1999, Mark Loram from the back on a 15 metre double tac was the highlight and watching Adams and Rickardsson awesome although they were riding for Kings Lynn then. It was a great track then and regarded by many as the best racetrack in the country. I have still seen some great races there in more recent times especially in the world cup but overall the racing isn't as good as it was and it is a mystery to me why that is. Is it machinery they use these days or has the shape of the track changed?

I was there that night as well.

Mark was off of 15 metres with his team mate Matej Ferjan (r.i.p). He was up against Travis Mcgowan and Robbie Kessler and he had past them both by the third lap and it did look like Ferjan wasnt going to slow down lol. Mark also fell of twice in that meeting whilst on his own which was totally unheard of.

Yes i remember that too but when the tac ride worked i thought we had a good chance of winning but out comes Adams and Ricko to spoil the fun. Strange atmosphere too as some Kings Lynn fans wanted us to win and Peterborough fans were worried Kings Lynn would throw the meeting to deny Peterborough winning the title.

The point is why isn't Kings Lynn the track it once was? I am no track expert so i wondered if someone on here with expert knowledge would know.

Regarding the track,it's the riders that want them slick and management are complying .The reasons have been discussed to death on this forum over the last few years.Kings Lynn was once a fantastic track.!!

I think the reason the track isn't what it was is because the gravel pit where buster bought his shale from run out and the new stuff isn't quite the same mix. I agree with you when you say the riders are dictating how the track should be prepared but I suppose it's them that's riding on it.

Trouble is the fans have to pay to watch it.
