Peterborough Panthers 2017

team looks alright but nowhere near as strong as sheffields , just hope we see some decent action and not have to listen to saul very often , and put up with the needless interval

Craig Saul wouldn't be on my wish list either , I get tired of the same old garbage he keeps spewing out, I suppose it could be worse if we had Peter York though. Team looks solid enough for home performances , away maybe different but I think they may surprise a few teams as well and i'm happy for them to be classed as underdogs. Not many people rated Somerset's chances last season but they proved the doubters wrong.

Never thought that I'd prefer Peter "in joke" York but at least he was visible and didn't continually pop out of the ether with another pit interview. Some can be interesting but generally it's just a noise. That's not Saul specific tbh because his standins are often worse!

HNY not sure what to make of the time, is it includes 2-3 riders who simply must kick on for it to be successful. Time will tell.

thats the same for every side - even favourites Sheffield will do nothing of note unless 2-3 kick on.

Pboro have the same chance as all teams to successful and a side that should entertain in trying to do it even if they dont ultimately succeed.

In a major new year message, Rathbone confirmed a takeover deal with previous owners, Readypower has been finalised.

And while he chose to keep the figures involved confidential, Rathbone did reveal that the financial backing of major sponsor T Balfe Construction has also enabled the purchase of track equipment which will immediately be placed under the control of the Peterborough Panthers Supporters' Club (PPSSC).

Rathbone said: "I'm delighted to be able announce the sale of the club from Readypower has gone through.

"I must pass on my thanks to Rick Frost and Julie Mahoney, who have always been very professional in our dealings.

"I'm grateful to them for giving me the opportunity to keep speedway going in Peterborough and both sides have since stuck firmly to the plan we put in place.

"On the surface very little changes, but behind the scenes this purchase will make the club far more financially secure.

"All speedway matters - on and off the track - are now under our control and thanks to the generosity of T Balfe Construction, we have been able to buy equipment which will be handed over to the PPSSC.

"It is all about providing long-term security and giving a fantastic bunch of supporters a say in the future..

"The time will come when I move on - although I hope it won't be anytime soon - and I don't want the club to be in a position where all the hard work goes to waste and speedway in Peterborough is under threat again."

Rathbone, who stepped in following the 2014 season to ensure racing continued at the East of England Showground, insists his business model of attempting to deliver SGB Championship success while living within the club's means will not change.

He added: "Speedway clubs have to cut their cloth accordingly in these tough financial times.

"I've always been adamant from day one that we have to be able to pay our way - and so far we have managed to do that.

"We will never spend beyond our means to chase glory only to put the future of the club in jeopardy.

"We have a very solid management team in which everyone knows their role and has the future of the club at heart.

"We've attracted very pleasing attendances during the past two seasons and I'll be over the moon if that continues in 2017.

"We're always looking to attract new fans and that work will continue in 2017 by spreading the speedway word in Peterborough and beyond."

Brilliant piece of news , well done Ged . I wouldn't have thought it would include rider assets but what it does mean we now have only one landlord to pay rent to instead of two . onwards and upwards looking forward to the new season with great promoters and owners to take the club forward.

Frost at leicester or BV maybe? if not it sits awkwardly with me that he owns riders contracts! i think they should revert to free agents or bspa or even better assets remain with club not promoter!. Congratulations on your security. quite what changes I'm not too sure! only 1 set of bills maybe as NEP just put!

I wouldn't call that a step back or less active roll.

Would be a smack in the teeth for Peterborough fans if they went into Leicester or Belle Vue as they stated they hadn't the time to run Peterborough Speedway , as for the assets Batchelor and Bjerre for example are in Lynn and Coventrys sides someones getting the loan fees and surely they would of used Bjerre If they were going to run either.

Did Rick and Julie not transfer their assets to Poole when they first went there ?

Poole fans had mentioned the tie up was only during the Readypower sponsorship which has lapsed now, it seems its take your guess who owns the contracts and receives the loan fees now

If they are not now with Poole and included in their asset list, the BSPA will act for them and Rick and Julie will get the loan fees.
