Lakeside-v-kings Lynn 2nd Sept 8pm

Recommended Posts

So, a point for the Hammers at Kings Lynn keeps them hanging in to the play-offs by their finger tips and suddenly this becomes another "must win" with everything depending on it.

You can never say never or get too confident in this sport but the Stars probably have less prospects of winning at Lakeside than probably any other club except Leicester.

Looks like Ben Morely will step in at reserve for the injured Rob Mear. Bridger and Lawson likey to do much better than at Lynn, Huckenbeck and Porsing likely to do much worse. Kim Nilsson back in the Hammers squad and has been on good form of late. Neils is the only Star that really rides Lakeside well, and even he is not quite what he was. Should be a comfortable win for Lakeside but the Play-Off situation will make it very tense.

Kings Lynn have r/r for Lambert. Robert Branford guests at reserve. Full squad for the Hammers, with Ben Morely in for Rob Mear for the remainder of the season.

No Lambert? Yeah this should be a very comfortable home win, just hope the Stars can gate to make it a little interesting, NKI should at least ensure some good action, he seems to love the place, his maximum for the Oxford Silver Machine back in 2006 I think it was still lives in my memory.

So, assuming -- and of course we should never assume -- that Lakeside beat Lynn and Swindon go pointless at Belle Vue, as Bryce pointed out it would all come down to the Sep 16 Arena match against the Robins with the away side needing a point and the Hammers trying to deny them it.

Are teams that finish level in the league table split on race points? That would automatically be Lakeside, given two home wins and Swindon missing out in Manchester.

From the neutral's point of view, a Hammers/Robins heat 15 with the home side say six points up would be ideal!

NOON RACEDAY WEATHER CHECK:

So far this morning here just a couple of miles from the Dartford Crossing early morning sunshine has been replaced by a high cloud covering but no hint of rain.

Looking at the Met Office's hour-by-hour forecasts for both Dagenham and Grays (the two closest towns to the track they provide forecasts for) it'll remain cloudy for the rest of the day with only a 10% chance of a light shower before 11pm.

Will update at 2.30pm before leaving for the track where I'll be answering all your "is it on" calls from hopefully 3pmish onwards depending on any delays at the tunnels.

Looks like an easy home win, but so did the Poole match that we lost! I'll be there tonight, cheering on the boys and looking forward to some good racing with a good result. I will happily settle for 46-44, although I imagine we will hit 46 by about heat 12.

Looks like a nice, mild evening as well.

Up the Hammers!

2.30pm RACEDAY WEATHER CHECK:

No change here just a couple of miles from the Dartford Crossing early morning sunshine has been replaced by a high cloud covering but still no hint of rain. Off to the track circa 3pm is the latest update from my pal who's giving me a lift so hopefully will be answering all those "is it on" phone calls to the club from around 3.30pm. Won't be able to do a further weather check via my mobile as can't do them with my mangled arthritic mitts but might be able to get someone else to do so on here. Best though, if you're travelling to the meeting, to phone the club's main number 01708 863443 a bit later on after 3.30pm.

UPDATE 3.15pm RACEDAY

My pal who's giving me a lift must have been held up as he has not yet arrived. Won't therefore be at track until at least 4pm but right now it's still dry and NO hint of rain.

Is Porsing still riding? His Twitter post makes it sound like he's not.

Good luck @officialKLstars tonight in lakeside My shoulder is so bruised that I'm taking very strong painkillers. Not ideal for racing

MPT replacing Porsing then.
