Grand Prix Qualifier

I hope Robert makes it back in time for the Somerset match at Brough Park, which is far more important than qualifying for the Grand Prix young Robert!! No! I know how important the GP Meeting is and I wish you a serious amount of Good Luck in the qualifier. Newcastle riders who went on to ride in the GPs include Nicki Pedersen, Bjarne Pedersen & Kenneth Bjerre.

It is an achievement in itself for an 18yr old to get to this stage, take your gating gloves with you, you will need to make some great starts.

Somerset Match

Somerset beat Plymouth home and away last week. I think out of their 20 completed league fixtures they have only been beaten once. They come to us as our sternest challenge of 2016. The Diamonds have a good home record and hopefully we will get a close match with the Diamonds maintaining their unbeaten at home record.

Somerset are looking set to top the league, with only Newcastle able (mathematically) to match them,,,

the Rebels only have 4 away fixtures left, and 3 of them at teams with 100% home records, so they may drop some more points, this one can go 'any way' IMO,,,

Can't see anyone beating us at home to be honest but it will certainly be a tough test and I'll go for a win between 8 - 12 points.

a think Edinburgh would've pushed us close last week, had it not been curtailed,,, maybe that was 'one of those nights', and I do hope it was the only 'one'.

hope your right, a think it will point us in 'how maybe the league and KOCup' may pan out,,,

Yeah think we would have increased it by the end of the night as we had RL and SW in a few heats and it was the reserve scores (no I won't go into all that again  ) that kept the meeting so close. LL probably had his worst home meeting this season also.

I see Ludvig had a great night at Edinburgh in the double header last night. A paid max against Redcar in five rides, and three wins in three rides against Plymouth before the meeting was abandoned.

BBC weather for tomorrow shows an overcast day, but with no rain. Let's hope they're right.

Unfortunately Robert Lambert failed to make next years SGP series after he finished the 16th place in today`s GP Qualifier in Vetlanda.

Seems Robert's form has dipped a little over the last month or so but he is only 18 and has huge potential. His bug bear seems to be his gating as he has the speed to beat anyone in the world as he has already proven. Can you coach gating or does he need to work more on his reflexes - I'm sure he doesn't need me to tell him and will no doubt be seeking advice and working on his gating technique consistency - he can gate though so there is something to work on. IMHO if he get's his gating sorted on a consistent basis he will be a big contender as a future world champion.

Lambert is a definite talent and has time on his side, he has started racing in Sweden which I hope continues next season, and I hope he gets fixed up in Poland and rides against better riders week in week out. That of course will mean him dropping our PL but I think he has the talent to reach GP level, racing in better leagues will help that.

Maybe a season early for that! King Kenny was mooted for greatness, but IMHO needed at least one more year at PL level before attempting the Polish route. Hopefully, young Robert is being better advised, even if that means he is elsewhere in our league come next season. Would love to see him at Brough again in Diamonds colours, obviously.

For Somerset fans. The weather in the north east has been poor all weekend with persistent rain, sometimes quite heavy. Forecast says: There will be cloud all day but doesn't mention any more rain and the Sun will put in an appearance at about 7pm.

The track will need extra work because of the rain on Saturday and overnight into Sunday. If the match is to be postponed let us hope it is publicised sooner rather than later.

No rain forecast after 2pm-ish. It's now 11.35am. It would have been called off by now, so it's all systems go for what should be a cracker (as Frank Carson used to say).

Yes, the other thing is that no need for an early calloff as Somerset and their fans would already be up here as their meeting at Worky last night was called off and they have to stay in the area for their next fixture at Berwick on Monday night. Haven't been up to the track yet, awaiting news on its condition. One thing is the rain, although persistent, has not been really heavy.

One thing, glad I didn't arrange a training session again this morning.

The match at Workington was called off at 9am, so the chances are that the fans would not have traveled.

They would if they were coming for the northern tour, just like we used to for our Southern tours. Don't forget they would have arrangement made for accommodation, meeting others and having a canny weekend away.
