mikec
Tough match for the Colts against the high flying Kent Kings. Despite injuries, think Kent have chosen good guests in Branford & Hopwood who go well round the NSS. Looking forward to watching James Shanes race, & expecting the reserve pairing of Verge & Thomas to give the Colts reserves a tough time. Should be a terrific match & a stern examination of the Colts playoff aspirations. Weather forecast looks great for Friday night, bring it on! KIRKYLANE
I went to kent for the Colts match. We put up a good performance and hopefully we can steal this match tonight. Branford and Hopwood are good choices for guests...
Ommer Mon
From a position of pure self interest, I think a Kings win would help the Heathens out a bit and set things up nicely for our visit on 23 Sept. Not sure why I'm so keen to be facing the Brummies in the Play Offs though! They would be bound to pick us for the semi to put a few quid in the bank. Halifaxtiger
I enjoyed this. Some decent racing (particularly heat 15) and a bit of aggro thrown in. James Shanes seemed to start it by making gestures at Nathan Greaves after heat 6 (not sure why). Greaves responded in kind after heat 10. Heat 13 was run 3 times, Shanes (off gate 4) being the faller on the first bend for the first two attempts. While it appeared to me that Greaves (off gate 1) moved over a bit first time,(he hit Robert Branford (off gate 2) who hit Shanes) on the next 2 runnings Branford try to cut across Greaves who was having none of it, resulting in a domino effect on the first re run and Branford being shunted out on the second. Then we had Payne (off gate 3) almost wiping out Greaves later in the race. Branford and Greaves had to be separated after one attempt and after the race had been run Greaves, Payne and Branford had to be likewise separated. Big performance from Shanes and from Ben Hopwood, with Kent's far more potent reserves the significant difference. For £10, a bargain. I notice Greaves was on a GTR, not that it will have contributed to his unruly riding as he was already well known for getting under the feet and crashes, a Bridger in the making? I can only say what I saw. As far as I am concerned, Greaves was possibly to blame for the accident in the first running of heat 13. Otherwise, I'd say he was not at fault other than by standing his ground when confronted by an aggressive move by an opponent. That, incidentally, is identical to what the texter on the updates site thought.
mikec
Fair summing up by Halifax Tiger I think, was certainly a lively match & that heat 15 was a great way to round the match off, credit to all four riders in that one. Feisty on track & in the pits as mentioned, got a bit tetchy in the centre of the grandstand when some of the Kings fans gave Greaves the "Nescafe shake" gesture as he came past following one of the incidents with Shanes. Some BV fans took exception, especially as there were plenty of kids there, the gestures all a bit unnecessary in the heat of the moment but other than that it was good to see a decent number of Kent fans had made the long trip north & they gave their team great backing. Was looking forward to seeing Shanes race for the first time & wasn't disappointed, really impressed, good style & very quick. Jack Thomas looks an exciting prospect too, read somewhere he's not been racing speedway long, he's certainly one to keep an eye on, was a threat to all the Colts last night. Thought Ben Hopwood was a great guest & possibly his best showing at Belle Vue this season, loves that wide outside run. Tough night for the Colts, though the 4th playoff spot still not out of the question. That clash with the Heathens at the end of Sept is getting bigger by the week. Rob B
It was a JAWA. Not many of them about, and it was fast too, even though it was back firing constantly.
