Buxton Hitmen V Birmingham Brummies - Sunday 28 August

Recommended Posts

Sadly, I will have to give this meeting a miss as I shall be otherwise engaged at the Gold Cup at Oulton Park.

If the meeting is spared by the weather Gods, then i think it would take a very brave man to place a wager on Buxton emerging as the victors.

Anyway, that is irrelevant. What I am awaiting with bated breath is Jason Pipe's lengthy, paragraph-less preview of the meeting, in which he will try to put forward a case that would suggest that Buxton are in line (yet again) for their first home win of the season!

He will have to spin it more than one of Yogi Blair's Weapons of Mass Destruction spin maestros to convince many punters to rush off down to Ladbroke's and wager a few shekels on a Buxton triumph.

But please, please, please let me be very wrong. If there is anyone up there, please listen to my prayer -

Buxton to win by 15 and Jason Pipe to get his picture on the front of Speedway Star.

No doubt Jason Pipe will hark back to the epic Buxton victory over the Brummies in 2015, with cliche's like "will history repeat itself", "if we can do it once we can do it again", "all winning runs are there to be ended" and other such offerings...

Who knows, he may even be right. "It's a funny ol' game Saint!" as someone once said about something completely separate to speedway, whilst we are on the subject of nothing to do with reality.

Not one to let you down.

Team Boss Jason Pipe is putting no pressure on his side.

‘I'll be telling all the boys to just go out there and enjoy racing their bikes without any pressure on their shoulders. All the lads are looking forward to Sunday's meeting. They know it's going to be hard but Speedway is full of surprises. I just want to see all the boys go out and enjoy themselves and I want to see happy smiling faces throughout the meeting, irrespective of the score. I'm sure it will be a good entertaining meeting for the spectators who attend. It's disappointing that we have to go in to the meeting without our captain Ryan Blacklock. As this being a rearranged fixture and Ryan having family commitments, it just can't be helped. Lee Dicken will deputise as captain in Ryan's absence. I'm please that we can give a guest booking to Rob Shuttleworth on Sunday. I've followed Rob since he first started out in speedway and it's good to witness his progress from when he started,to now. Rob is the type of rider I like and wouldn't hesitate to have him on board full time if he was ever available. He asked me last season, if I was ever in need of a guest and he fitted the bill, then I shouldn't hesitate and ask him. I like riders like that who come to me wanting rides if at all possible. It's always much more impressive to a team manager or promoter when a rider approaches you, rather than you chasing riders. Rob always rides well at Buxton and I'm sure he'll continue that on Sunday and enjoy himself with a few points for himself and the team at the same time. Let's hope the weather is kinder to us this week and the fans go home having witnessed a great meeting.’

uk martin, you are wise beyond your years but sadly on this occasion, your favoured clichés were not used in Jason Pipe's most recent monologue.

"Speedway is full of surprises" is probably as good as it gets on the cliché front but even the redoubtable Mr. Pipe is struggling to inject the slightest glimmer of hope of Buxton winning anything more than a prize in the raffle.

Even if Birmingham show some mercy and give all the rider replacement rides to the team mascot, TurnTwo's prediction of a sound drubbing for the valiant Buxton boys could prove highly accurate.

I do hope that the hired-hand for the day, Rob Shuttleworth turns up because Mr. Pipe has devoted the best part of one his enormous paragraphs to bulling him up!

Come on Buxton, GIVE IT LARGE!

Well, I never!

I have spent all day at Oulton Park in lovely, warm sunshine for most of the day.

Amazing that less than an hour away, the weather has been so bad that the track is flooded.

You must get really fed up being a speedway promoter when even the weather seems to have a grudge against you.
