Colin Watson rode for West Ham in 1946 and I believe he was born in 1899.

It has previously been mentioned on another website that South African, Keith Harvey ( born Verulam, South Africa, 1896 ) was the last 19th Century rider in league racing, having ridden for New Cross in the early part of 1947.

So he would have been alive during the Second Anglo-Boer War (11 October 1899 – 31 May 1902) although I don’t believe there was much action around the Verulam area in what is now KZN/Natal.
