Isle Of Wight: V Birmingham Tues 23rd Aug

I O W don't have a snowballs chance in hell of winning. :drink:

Definitely right on that one but it wasn't for lack of effort on their part.

Another entertaining meeting in front of a very decent attendance and hopefully IOW speedway will kick on in 2017. The efforts of the promotion have been outstanding - an example to every other one across the country - and I trust they will pay off in the future.

Great to hear of a promotion actually doing just that. Hopefully they will reap the rewards. From what I've read on here there seems to have been some good crowds over the Summer. Good to hear after a brave decision to re-launch the sport on the island.

Well happy with a Brummies win of course but the presentation is really good getting the kids involved from the start shows up many tracks I've been to so top marks for that..also a few Brummies fans including myself were able to watch ht15 from the centre green so all in all an excellent visit and puts a lot of other track to shame well done IOW😀

Did you get to meet George Major by any chance?

Just a thought I wouldn't watch from the centre green as you'd have to keep turning around otherwise you'd miss part of the race.

If you get the chance its worth viewing from a different perspective. Certainly gives a different appreciation of speed, the minor tweaks and twitches of each rider that is often missed from the outside and of course the riders eyes as wide as saucers.

Another thoroughly entertaining trip to the Island for me and great to see very healthy crowd in attendance. They have worked really hard to make things viable and deserve every success they get. Also agree with other posters that the involvement of the kids is very encouraging.

Felt sorry for Nathan Stoneman when he came to grief while trying a last bend swoop around Dan Halsey. A magnificent effort that deserved more. Fine signing by the Warriors.

:)

Their efforts have been extraordinary - posters, banners, leaflets, newspaper adverts, shows.

You can argue that it is in the interests of the promotion to publicise the speedway (particularly in a holiday destination like the Island) but places like Eastbourne, Plymouth and even Poole don't go to the lengths that the Warriors do. They even had one young lady delivering leaflets on horseback !!

I took a bus ride from Sandown to Ryde last week and saw 1 banner and 2 posters in a journey of 6 miles. No-one else comes close.

What's even more impressive is what happens when you get there. Free entry, free sweets and other attractions (including a bike race on the track) for the children and a promotion that are most visible and, far better, totally approachable.

One last bonus : the racing is pretty good, too.

It doesn't get much better than that and it makes a stark contrast to the get what you are given and be grateful, if you don't like it don't come, respond to criticism with abuse attitude that we see far, far too often.

Been on the centre green to watch races a few times at Berwick (similar shape / size to Isle of Wight) and for me it was brilliant to get a new perspective on racing. The speed and noise of the bikes up close is very impressive. I would encourage everybody to do it once just to see how very different it is to standing / sitting back on the terraces.

But the real skill is to turn alternative ways during each lap, otherwise you are in danger of corkscrewing yourself into the grass :-)

My first visit to Smallbrook Stadium, hopefully not my last. The whole set up is excellent, top marks to the promotion, advertising of the speedway was good, the kids had a great time. Nathan Stoneman deserved more points for his efforts, a fast moving presentation, plenty of time to get the last ferry back to the mainland, great to hear George Major speak about his time at IOW.
