Glasgow Vs Somerset Pl 21/08/16

Recommended Posts

I hate saying this but with the 2 guests and Rene and Danny unlikely to be 100% fit I think the rebels will take our home record. Since guesting for the tigers young Bewley has been scoring points for fun and he will help the rebels shade it.

Just wish i'd put money on it! Bewley was brilliant apart from one race. Like lots of other posters don't see why we had extensive grading after heat 10. we had fought back and started to look more comfortable then we prepare the track like it was at heat 1! Also heard a few people suggesting we should have swopped Nike and Danny in heats 12 and 14 as Nike more likely to beat Charles Wright but didn't hear anybody saying it at the time - everyone's a great team manager after a meeting. I think we deserved a draw but hey we are still 2nd in the table and we won't come up against young Bewley again, at least not as a guest.

Yes many raised there eyebrows at the time but large slices off humble pie is now on the menu as he is just a fantastic talent.

Very quick on the bike and so in control he is maturing at a very rapid rate.

Certainly those that saw him at the beginning enthused about how safe and stylish he was.

I didn't see him till the away matches at Ipswich and Rye when he scored a total of 2 points from the 2 matches.

He was well outscored by Cleggy who scored 15.

I thought he looked steady but didn't expect the kind of scoring he has now run into.

And obviously you guys benefited from that at Rye the other week!!

So what goes around comes around!!

Is today's result a bad thing?

We were always likely to finish second in the table to Somerset - all but confirmed today!

Does it give us a wake up call - most certainly!

Will Somerset, barring injuries, have two guests in the play off final/KOC etc if we meet them in it - not a chance.

19 plus 1 from 2 guests today and they replaced 2 riders that have ever ridden at Ashfield. One of which has an average of 2.76!!

In addition Charles Wright and BWD scored 2 between them.

I have every confidence in us over 2 legs!!

I think the Rebels will fancy themselves over 2 legs after beating the Tigers by 16 at the OTA in the PL and then again away!

It was Charles first meeting since concussion and Bradley will surely score next better time. As for our guests naturally we benefitted from young Bewley today replacing Zac but who knows what Jake would have scored considering he topped scored for the Aussies yesterday at the under 21 SWC out scoring Fricke B Kurtz and J Holder.

Can other play off teams riders still guest for fellow play off teams???? As it could get quite messy this year ;)

Rule should be extended so you cannot use a guest from another top 6 club if they're also there. Makes no odds to me as I support neither side but would've been good to see Somerset trying to win with Ben Morley instead.

Take both #7s out and it's an easy win for us. So a lot to be positive about but worrying we have two riders that have stalled a bit just before the crunch part of the season.

Ifs buts and maybes

18.11.6 No Rider, whose Team is in the Play-Offs may appear as a Guest in the Play-Offs.

Agree with much of that, what a great meeting, with the first eight heats all within a second of the track record such was the standard of the riding. Bewley was sensational in his second heat aggressively going under Lawson with a very self assured style. He won ht14 untroubled and took second from Garcia on the line in ht10, how we could have done with that point.

Somerset started well winning 5 of the first 6 heats opening a 6 point lead but Glasgow fought back to be 6 ahead at ht10. Unfortunately the major regrade after then handed back the advantage to Somerset as they won easy 5-1's in heats 11 & 13 which effectively sealed the deal.

Whilst Bewley outscored Zac Waj points for the last month, we have all played that card and no point complaining, Somerset were simply better. A home defeat at this stage is perhaps what we needed, proves we arent invincible despite the hype and will hopefully restore some desire at the top end of the team.

It would be interesting to know what Summers and Tungates spat was about after ht15, but well done the Rebels anyway.

Yep agreed. Not sure on the Summers/Tungate issue but think it may have been from an earlier heat as Summers didn't look impressed after ht 13

Didn't notice anything in either heat tbh that would have Aaron react to Tungate, it is out off character for Aaron so something must have got his back up.

I sometimes feel that Tungate is vilified unfairly due mainly to the Auty incident which he was rightly banned but he is a rider i have alway's liked as a solid middle order type rider, he has kicked on this year and he has performed well at most tracks.

We did and no complaints from me on either the kid was simply sublime today and his pass on Garcia off bend 4 lap 4 belied his tender age.

No matter how many times and where you move the Goal Posts ! Rebels won !!! Cut down the laps done by the tractor and that may of helped !!! I said "may"

Just reading Stewart's comments regarding the tractor grade after heat 10 admitting it killed all momentum why does someone not reel in the big guy in the green tractor then, it is the same every week he goes round continuously without a care in the world.

And to top it off he punctures the air fence at bend 2 to compound his unwillingness to leave the track in the past the referee has had to insist he leaves as he seems to be oblivious to anything other than him. the time he is on track is not needed someone needs to have a word and have no more than 5 laps instead off the 20 - 30 he is usually doing.

Lawson and Summers not the kind of riders in the big heats at the business end of the season.

Summers was inconsistent prior to moving to No1 and is a bit more exposed now. At the next set of averages it may be that Worrall goes to No1 and Lunna and Garcia swap.

Even if Jorgensen scored the same as Allen would have, Bewley got 13 more than Zac would and Wilson Dean was well off the pace. I agree if Somerset and Glasgow are to meet in the play offs it is the Somerset leg that would largely determine who progresses.
