Robert Branford guests tomorrow night at no 1 in place of Kaspazak

Woryna is ruled out through injury so RR instead

What's happened to Kacper?

He remembered going to Lakeside earlier in the season and rubbish himself!

Typical that it's been dry and sunny in Coventry from early evening and grounds now dry. Imagine the track would still be very wet.

I'm sure it would and look what's happened at Belle Vue trying to get their meeting on.

Going to be hard with our top 2 in Harris & Kaspazak missing. Then there could be no AJ either and no Lawson for Lakeside

Surprised they did it for then and not the bank holiday Monday

Can't do the week of bank holiday monday by all accounts. Preparing for the Stox world final for Friday and Saturday. It was alluded to in the Bees statement.

lol I thought the same.

Saved us from a likely farce.

Wouldn't be surprised if Bomber changed his plans and rides next Friday. Fine it before for us.

A fair question...

Perhaps Neil Watson can respond and let us know what has changed since he posted the optimistic message saying the track had been prepped for rain and would go ahead this evening?

Not having a go, or criticising, just interested in the timeline to being called off.....

Thanks in advance Neil..

They did a fantastic job, blading the track between the semis & the final of the fours last weekend. Even with the forecast, I believed it would still be on; guess the rain was just too heavy in the end

Hi, I'm involved with track prep at another EL circuit, with the forecast for yesterday (Friday) being quite precise on the rainband exiting the Midlands, and NW saying the track had been prepped for rain (stated this at around 10:00) and then calling it off less than 3 hours later, I was surprised....... I was interested in what changed, because the forecast didn't.... That's all....

We had heavy rain from earlier than the forecast 8am so the amount of rain might have been a factor

Not sure exactly what rainfall Brandon was getting but where I work in Canley (about 8 miles away) it was peeing down pretty consistently from 9am until around 4pm.

Can't see that Coventry called this off out of malice or self-gain; and if the track was salvageable, I'm pretty certain they'd have run the meeting.

Coventry Bees Speedway Fans Facebook page, my post from yesterday:

I can assure you that postponing a meeting on race day is done with the utmost thought and the greatest reluctance. We incur significant cost on every postponement, cost which increases as tapes-up approaches.

We also have to take into account the prevailing weather all around the stadium - running with a minimal crowd because everyone assumes it is going to be off does us no good at all!

We had prepared the track for rain, and as I said at 8.30am we intended the meeting to go ahead. Over the next 3 hours or so it became apparent that racing tonight was becoming less likely, and at some point a decision has to be made that inconveniences the fewest people and costs the Club as little money as possible.

This decision is made by Mick or me, and once it is made that decision has to be final, whatever else may then happen with the weather.

As David rightly points out, tonight's postponement means that we have to use a date that we had previously left unused for EL fixtures. As the league cut-off point approaches, with restricted stadium availability due to the prestigious Stock Car World Cup meeting, the GP programme resuming and any rearranged fixture losing rider priority to the Premier League; next Friday is not ideal but better than the alternatives.

I hope you will all continue to support the Bees as we move towards the end of the season, although results haven't been as we hoped, we have certainly provided excellent entertainment - and surely that's what most speedway fans want?

9.45am Weather check:

Here on the Kent side just a short distance from the Dartford Crossing, since i emerged from my pit at 8am it's been dry and sunny although, looking at the trees outside a bit breezy. Going by the Met Office hour-by-hour forecasts for Dagenham and Rainham (alas they don't do one for Purfleet) we may get a shower in the next hour or so but NO more rain is forecasted until after 10pm tonight. So looking good and the Met Office better be right for, whilst not 100% yet after my recent short spell in hospital, I'll be there so can some kind soul save me a seat on the veranda outside the upstairs bar where I intend to watch from please. Will update circa 1pm.

Thank you very much Neil, that's all I wanted to know, jolly decent of you to clarify this situation....

Now no Josh Bates tonight for Coventry due to illness so team is

1. Robert Branford (for KK)

2. Jason Garrity

3. Danny King

4. RR (for Woryna)

5. Chris Harris

6. Ellis Perks (for Bates)

7. James Sarjeant

So with exception of Harris, it's a team of 3 PL riders and 2 NL riders.

Lakeside should be hitting close to 60 in this and a good 3 points to move them back in to the play off places and Wolves in to 5th

13.30 WEATHER UPDATE

Sorry about being later than I said earlier but had a visitor. Anyway the Met Office hour-by-hour forecast has proved to be 100% accurate so far in that it clouded over and we had a shower just after 10.30am but since then the cloud has lifted, we've had sunshine and patches of blue sky interspersed with high cloud moving fairly quickly in the breeze which I'd describe as medium in strength. NO hint of rain and the hour-by-hour forecast referred to above predicts no real chance of rain until post 10pm tonight. Further update circa 5pm unless any dramatic change. So looks very likely I'll be seeing some of you tonight.

P.S. Won't be 'up in the box' announcing tonight but I've a feeling that Hammers fans will like the guy who's doing it tonight! :)

King is an EL rider, has been for years. Get your point though we will struggle to get much over 30 tonight unless Sarj has a stormer taking the R/R rides. Garrity enjoys Lakeside to be fair too. Edited by woz01
