Somerset V Edinburgh 17/8/16 @7.30pm

Recommended Posts

The score line suggests Somerset trounced the Monarchs....however the racing was a lot closer than it suggests.

In fact it was a superb meeting...some fine racing all round. It had pretty much everything.

What a joy to watch young Dan Bewley...a terrific little rider. You Monarchs fans are lucky to see him every week.

Was also impressed with James Shanes...if that lad had the equipment, he'd be a class act. Reminded very much of Chris Morten in his approach and style.

Hope Mr Fisher is ok...I said as he rode down the home straight that it was going to end in tears...it did. Bikes everywhere and punctured Air fence.

Plus...not one tape break or unsatisfactory start all night.

Topped off by a nice little chat with Rosco and Neil Collins.

Great nights speedway...thoroughly entertaining.

Did someone dare to overtake him?

He didn't like the trademark Jake Allen divebomb into turn three on lap one of heat one!

He obviously hasn't seen Jake at the OTA as he does it once a meeting at least and it is the most controlled divebomb i have seen as he holds it no wider than mid track around the 3/4 bends despite coming in at about 100mph!

Fisher should be certified after his move on Starke to night and then to top it of he gets Starke excluded with a usual out of control move on bend 1 lap 3 !!! The man is a liability and can't handle the red mist the descends when he wakes up !!! Shades of what he did to Nick Morris last year when Nick was guesting for us !!! As for Masters he is a cry baby, can give it but can't take it !!!! Anyway it makes victory all the sweeter !!!

Well done Somerset. Great result.

Fisher on Starke in Ht14 was the old Fisher that we don't like...nasty

On a plus side Young Mr Bewley 1st time at the OTA what a performance a true talent he seems to have everything and one to watch for the future. Well done Dan keep it up

Sounds like an eventful meeting. Somerset are looking odds on to win the full thing. Looking forward to their visit up here on Sunday. Should be an epic match.

The Fish is prone to be wild and out of control. He has been the same for years, can't see him changing now.

Jake Allen's "divebomb" sounds similar to Mick Powell's famous move at Shawfield.

Bewley has been the find of the season. He has made great strides in such a short space of time.

I wasn't there so I can't comment on Ryan's move on Paul but everyone seems to be dodging the fact that Paul attacked Ryan whilst down and injured and that is not acceptable behaviour

And before the Weegies all dive on their keyboards re - Sam, I didn't condone his actions either and said so at the time...... You cannot defend the indefensible and that now includes Paul

As you say " I (you) wasn't there" !!! It was totally out of character for Paul to react like he did to Fisher and I am not condoning it BUT in his defence, Fisher had ridden him out to the fence on the home straight the lap before to such an extent that the track staff were pointing at the mark left by Pauls footrest left on the gravel boards all the way up the straight !!! It was totally reckless !!! Paul was very lucky to keep it all together and survive what could have been a very serious incident caused by Fishers "Red Mist" which he always seems to suffer from when he wakes up. The crash between Paul and Fisher was completely avoidable in my eyes. Paul had the upper hand and Fisher wasn't happy with that so decided to bin it and take Paul with him when he was going to take the lead. On the upside Fisher ended up the wounded one and paying the price for his "Dangerous Riding" which, I am sorry to say, Paul reacted to understandably, IMO !!! Not good but Fisher could wind up a Saint !!!

I was there last night (I have been involved in speedway for 50 years including riding) & agree 100% with what you say, but the record books will show Paul Stark excluded & the race awarded to Ryan Fisher - what a joke!

Dan Bewley- yes a real talent, rides the bike properly & rides with his head, with the right back-up & good luck will be a GB star in a few years.

It has been confirmed that Ryan Fisher has a broken metatarsal bone in his left foot which will rule him out of matches for the immediate future, a big blow for the Border Roofing Monarchs. The injury was sustained in heat 14 at Somerset. ( from Edib web site)

no mater what the circumstances don't like to see any rider get injured
