Somerset V Sheffield 12.8.16.

Recommended Posts

A quick chance for the Rebels to get revenge for their first league defeat of the season. No Wrighty tonight following his spill, so it's R/R for him with everyone except Josh taking a ride. Josh still bothered by his leg after his fall so ex Rebel Brady Kurtz on standby if he doesn't make it. Safe journey down for travelling Tigers and no more injuries on both sides please.

Fancy Tigers to get something from this meeting, top 5 all could get 8+. Need points from both reserves tonight.

Tall order even without Josh, if the Rebs are sharp out of the starts tonight , there will only be one winner. According to the updates the Tigers were a bit iffy at the tapes last night, a stronger ref may have penalised them. Brady on good form at the moment so I'm expecting double figures from him . Should be a cracker though.

Can't see Greaves having any joy this evening, the one point he should have scored was nicked on the line by Bewley as he was wide awake and Greaves obviously not!

As for the starts, the referee did penalise the Tigers last night every time it was an 'unsatisfactory start'. Nobody touched the tapes though!

Just hope everyone stays safe tonight.

Wasn't there something about Sisses being warned twice, not sure.

A depleted Rebels did a great job tonight to beat Sheffield. Missing 3 of our normal riders remaining 4 plus the guests produced a solid performance to start another winning run!

Great effort by Brady back in a Rebels bib showing he hadn't forgotten his fence scraping lines around the OTA. Jake was so unlucky as had heat 1 all sown but until the chain went. He was that far ahead he still almost reached the line before Brady in third! R/R produced 9 for Wrighty so possibly only a point or two dropped with that being used ;) . Starkey was the rider of the night by a mile for me. His ride in heat 5 to fend off Stead and protect BWD was amazing but still not a patch on the ride he produced in heat 12 to beat Howarth by about 1/4". Rohan was that good also that you hardly noticed he racked up 17 points, certainly thriving on the Somerset air. BWD was solid as ever with a great win in heat 5 on his R/R outing ahead of Stead/Bates. Chessell tried hard but lacked the speed to keep riders behind him although Greaves locking up in front of him certainly helped Sissis in heat 2.

For Sheffield Stead was a bit hit and miss as was Bates. Both scores were increased by one point due to Allen's misfortune. Comedy moment of the night was heat 10 when Sheffield team manager put the B/W on Howarth but no one told Berge (who would have been my choice for it anyway!). Howarth looked ok and had a great race with Starke in heat 12 and Berge got better as the night wore on spoiling Starkey's max in heat 14. Garrity was poor for the experience he now has. Obviously was his left hand causing the problems as in true Coventry fashion he dropped the clutch before the tapes went up in his first two rides. Not sure what he did in heat 9 with his slow motion fall and failure to clear the track due to much hand shaking. No idea what or how he hurt it but can't have been too bad as he was back in heat 13. Sissis was poor but might have been hampered by the Sheffield shale still all over his kit from the night before! Greaves score flattered him a bit too as had 15m advantage over his partner in heat 2 and only beat Chessell twice.

Good night of speedway overall and onto Edinburgh next Weds ahead of a Northern Tour which i doubt we will get much out of after hearing the teams news tonight. Although this is the 2016 Rebels we are talking about so who knows!!

What team news is that?

What team news is that?

Jake is riding in the u21 world team cup final next weekend, so we will be without him and Wrighty at Edinburgh and Berwick (possibly). It would be good if we could get Palovaara at Edinburgh for Jake and run R/R for Charlie.

If Brady is not declared in a premier league team wouldn't his EL Average count ?? That would make his average too high to replace Josh ?

Happy to be told im wrong but just working on whats happened previously

Kurtz converted ave is 6.17 x 1.4 = 8.64, As JG's home GSA is 9.30, quite legal.

It's been mentioned on another thread that the fixture list is one of the major problems with British Speedway at the moment, and this is just further proof.

Let's hope Josh is fully recovered by next weekend.

The northern tour would've been tough with a full team but going depleted means that getting anything from next weekend will prove difficult. Hopefully, Charlie will be back for Berwick and Jake is back for the meeting at Glasgow :t:

Not too much to add to Drew's post, only to say a decent crowd witnessed some top class racing with the aforementioned brilliant rides from Starkey. Jake Allen, despite his obvious disappointment in shedding his second chain on the start line (his sheer anguish could be heard from where I was stood!), was once again involved in some great races. His battles with Howarth and especially Bates in heat 8 were simply superb.

Jason Garrity is certainly an extraordinary character. After crashing in one race, Ambulance staff raced to assist him but they were sent on their way by the Mancunian with some choice words!! Strange lad.

Sheffield definitely arrived st the OTA thinking they had a chance of nicking a point or two and their riders were certainly fired up from the start. An animated Simon Stead led a team meeting after heat 8 at the entrance to the pit gates urging his team mates on.

A mention to Ez Curtis and the track staff last night who managed to repair a hole that appeared from nowhere on the 3rd and 4th bend in rapid time, causing only a 5 minute delay to proceedings.

Palovaara guesting at Edinburgh, ive a feeling that meeting will succumb to the weather, just like Plymouth found out!

Enjoyed the racing last night...got absolutely plastered in dirt off the exit of bend 2...was just like the old days. The missus wasn't impressed though lol

Sadly had to leave before the end, due to having to catch a train.

Was hoping to get to see the meeting in it's entirety but that was never going to happen, due to the length of time it's taking to run meetings these days.

So many tapes exclusions and unsatisfactory starts recently. What with that, the track grading and then an Interval...why do we need an interval?

Why do we need 2 hours for 15 mins worth of racing?
