So Who Is Going To Win The Premier League In 2016?

Recommended Posts

If Somerset carry on as they are and go through the season unbeaten they should win the league title outright and be spared going through the Play Offs and then the Play Offs could decide the 2nd and 3rd spots. They are a joke and are only there to prolong the season and get more money out of the fans. If your good enough to go through the season unbeaten you are good enough to hold the title !!! Just Saying !

It keeps an intestest in whether your team can get atop 6 place otherwise the season would be over for a lot of teams before it began.I agree the Team that Top the League should be Champs the Play off does attract decent crowds .although it does get see to get very hectic towards final and does not get build up it deserves IMO .I Personaly would have league first and league cup later as I don't feel it is as important.

League Cup would be better served as an end of season tournament , this year's final is going to be in October anyway . We could have the League and play offs and KO Cup decided by the middle of September , then have the League Cup to finish the season

I doubt there would be anyone there if the League Cup was run at the back end of the season after the league had been decided, it would be lethal for clubs to do that IMO.

As it stands with the League Cup at the start it affords clubs chance to front load their season financially with slightly larger attendances due to local crowds and higher interest levels when the season starts. Those attendances are then boosted and subsidised by a steady stream of local fixtures during the league season.

If the League Cup was ran as a competition after the Play Offs there would be about as much interest as the “best of the rest Play Offs” that were a bit of a disaster rather than the actual Play Offs, which drag more people out of the house during the closing weeks of the season.

Possibly or it could work the other way of giving clubs an end of season interest . Having the League Cup run over a month at the end of the season is surely much better than having group stages done by the middle of April and then having the semis 5 months later .

Questionable if it would IMO, even on paper it just feels a bit arse backwards to continue on with another competition after the League Champions have been crowned, running the League Cup Semi and Final earlier in the season seems far more logical and allows a far more natural build to the Play Off.

The League Cup never seems to work that way though

having the league cup semi's and final as soon as the groups are finished and then having the first round of the ko cup out before the start of the league imo is the best way to go, it would mean that the league didn't start until may but you would have a home meeting every week from may until end of august with a ko cup quarter final week at the start of july and semi final week at the start of august with the ko cup final at the start of september and then the play offs through september and into october

But if you start the season knowing there are going to be playoffs, then your aim is to build a team that A) can get to the playoffs and also B ) can beat teams over home and away legs. Two different things. And why I think my team are favourites for the title :D

Without the playoffs the league would be practically over already.

How do you work that out ??? We have PL fixtures home and away until September the 9th !!! If we get bad weather it will go on longer than that !!! September is an ideal month to call it a day IMO!

That's the way it should work but with rain offs and the fact that teams have to agree fixture dates amidst a background of clashes with doubling up and foreign commitments it will never work. It might work if fixture dates for semis and finals and postponements were set in stone at the start of the season and enforced. but even then you will probably end up with free weeks in the middle of the season when there are no rain offs or teams forced to race on costly off nights or double headers then finishing their season in september because they miss out on the play offs.

I prefer to have a few league cup meetings at the start of the season as a pre-season so with much regret I would keep it the way it is.

Agreed. Just meant that Somerset are in the driving seat this season.

peterboro :)

as much as that would be superb I cant see it happening (unfortunatetly)

The pussycats will limp over the line into the play offs and then I fear could hit a purple patch.....

something has to be done regarding having very few home fixtures in the middle of the season like what has happen at Berwick in the last couple of seasons

Definitely did not help Berwick or any other Saturday night tracks having 3 blank Saturdays in July. Obviously we won't have the World Cup to contend with next season just needs the fixture planners to maybe put 4's weekend to another month.

Think the title of this thread should really be, whos going to win the play offs.

After the run of unbeaten matches Somerset have had this season I don't think anyone else will catch them now (barring disaster).

So I'm going to say Somerset for the league and if finishing positions in the league table tie in wouldn't rule out an all Scottish play off final again.
