So Who Is Going To Win The Premier League In 2016?

Recommended Posts

5 man team as Mr Scarrisbrick wasn't too bad

Of course, Martin Scarisbrick! Think he also rode for Belle Vue. But what a top 4 of Joe Owen 11 point ave, Rod Hunter 10.50 point ave, Bobby Beaton 10.20 point ave, Alan Emerson 8 point ave. Nobody could compete with that. Happy days. :)

Barring injuries, Somerset look certs, with Glasgow beaten Playoff Finalists again.

With Garrity returning in such fine form, Sheffield's 1 - 5 could possibly outscore any other team over two legs, but their reserves would have to up their game.

Newcastle could also be in the mix, but whilst Lindgren has improved, Lambert seems to have faltered slightly, and Phillips is likely to be the weakest #7, if Ayres & Wajknecht return from injury.

Edinburgh are unlikely to remain third in the table as I do not expect them to pick up any further points from their remaining away fixtures at Somerset, Sheffield, & Newcastle, and they might struggle to maintain their unbeaten home record against Somerset, Glasgow & Peterborough.

Despite their dodgy home record, the Panthers away record should still ensure they grab sixth spot, and if Rathbone does find a way of shuffling his pack, they might cause a ripple.

He has only failed to get double figures in one match at Workington last week since Glasgow away at the end of May (his first visit there and he still broke the track record). His gating does let him down at times but he is still a top top rider and there have not been many 18 year olds who have performed as well as he has at a similar age.

Robbie Foy only seemed rubbish in comparison. He actually averaged about 4.5.

How very true when you look at who his team mates where!!

So very true. I was secretly hoping Phillips would do a Scarisbrick at the 4's but sadly to no avail. How I long to go back to those days of Beaton, Emerson, Hunter, Owen and Bloxsome!! And Backadder as well. :t::t::D

Somerset or Newcastle for me.

Still far to many meetings left though to call, elite league is pretty much set in stone now

Yeah Poole will probably win that again . Whilst Somerset look a cut above , our league title is not so easy to predict

If tracks are heavy some Edinburgh boys will struggle, especially Mark. To have a chance think Monarchs will need to finish second. On paper you would go with Glasgow Somerset final. But weather permitting could see a Newcastle Edinburgh one. Still feel whoever finishes top are Champions but it does keep season alive and we all know the play off gig at start of season.

Remember Joe and Rod both getting paid 21 maximum at Oxford when we won by 2 points and either BB or AE were missing (think it was BB) and also remember Joe getting a 21 point maximum against Mildenhall the day after the 4s when BB was missing and Mildenhall who were right behind us in the league and winning until the last heat when we got a 5 - 0 and Joe was doing wheelies the whole 4 laps. Think Nikki also got a 21 point maximum against Peterbrough if I recollect. Great days but maybe this should be in the Newcastle thread :D :D - hopefully this years team will repeat the feat and win the league and cup.

Yes we should rename the thread 'So Who Is Going To Win The Premier League In 2016?' #Whocares #letstalkabouttheDiamondsteamofold :t::t::D

Putting the past aside for a moment. I think Somerset do look the team to beat at the moment but I will be interested to see how they fair at Brough and on the forthcoming northern tour. I think Edinburgh will be in with a shout as they seem to be hitting form at the moment. Depends who is up for it the most on a no doubt freezing cold October night!!

Would love to see the Diamonds do it as I am sure every other Diamonds fan would, and speedway fan for that matter!!! :o:o:P

put your £1,000 on him winning the plrc then?

He won't do that it would make a hole in his savings account would only leave him with 14k apparently so he has told us anyway several times.

If Somerset carry on as they are and go through the season unbeaten they should win the league title outright and be spared going through the Play Offs and then the Play Offs could decide the 2nd and 3rd spots. They are a joke and are only there to prolong the season and get more money out of the fans. If your good enough to go through the season unbeaten you are good enough to hold the title !!! Just Saying !

But if you start the season knowing there are going to be playoffs, then your aim is to build a team that A) can get to the playoffs and also B ) can beat teams over home and away legs. Two different things. And why I think my team are favourites for the title :D

Without the playoffs the league would be practically over already.
