Steve Shovlar
Thinks its Wolves to lose now. They will thrash teams at home and keep it close away.
Shockster
OK then, let's put it another way. Assuming Belle Vue finish top (I'll be amazed if they don't) if you were in their position who would you pick? As I have stated previously I would go Swindon. The way Swindon are riding and with away meetings at Lakeside and Belle Vue, unless we have changes in the pipeline or a rider injury I do not think we will get to the play offs unless Poole or Lakeside lose all their remaining meetings. Poole normally ask the riders what track they would prefer to go to.
SteveLyric2
So with Poole at home v the Aces on Thursday and away at Wolves on Monday - those results if they don't go Poole's way, could well influence the Top team's choice in the play-offs!!
E I Addio
The way Swindon are riding and with away meetings at Lakeside and Belle Vue, unless we have changes in the pipeline or a rider injury I do not think we will get to the play offs unless Poole or Lakeside lose all their remaining meetings. Ben Morley now replaces the injured Rob Mear at Lakeside for the rest of the season, making it an even more uphill battle for Lakeside to get that essential away point at Kings Lynn than it already was. The only EL track that Ben has ever really ridden well is Lakeside. He should go well enough on his home track to scores a few but it looks like the Hammers will very likely fall a point short of Swindon, even if they ride to form and get 3 points in each of the two remaining home matches. To be brutally honest it looks like being between Wolves, a Pirates and the Aces, with whichever one makes it out of Swindon and Lakeside being there to make the numbers up. To my mind it's anybody's guess. Belle Vue look best on paper but you can't always guarantee they will all ride to form or that Zagar in particular will hit the ground running. Poole also have riders who can ride above themselves one week and underscored the next, whole Wolves look the weakest on paper to me but you can't ignore what they have achieved so far and you can't ignore Peter Adams record of championships wins even though some at Wolves think he is past his sell by date. Difficult to pick one, but if forced to choose I woukd say Bell Vue but it is very open IMO.
heathen chemistry
too early to choose a winner , there will be team changes before the playoffs
Steve0
What is good this year is that at this time of the season it isn't clear cut who will win the whole thing. As said above it looks like 1 from 3 just now with Wolves probably edging it on current form. However, in the play-offs anything can happen - which is good from a spectator point of view. foreverblue
If we finish top we have to pick wolves. The cup is all about money and the big crowd will come to see woofinden, there will be a big crowd for the final just like there used to be for the ko cup but if we were to pick Swindon we might lose in front of an average crowd (last season the cup semi final crowd was no more than the b qualifier) and even if we win Poole might beat wolves making the final much lower than it would have been against the world champion. If we get the choice then it has to be 'the bird in the hand' although this time that means wolves not robins and if it means the final won't be at the National Speedway Stadium then that's just a shame, I'm sure Poole and wolves will put on a good show. As a Poole fan i hope you pick Wolves but i think your management team will have a different view, the current form team is Wolves so nobody would pick them for the semi on purpose, both semi finals and the final will have big crowds. You have a good point there Fred,if we beat Wolves (which I doubt over 2 legs) then we will get 2 good paydays, however IMHO I don't think Belle Vue will beat any of their P/Off rivals as we still don't have a decent home advantage just yet. Personally i think the track is very fair and your likely to have less advantage in the future as away riders get used to it Not last season, the cup semi crowd was if anything slightly lower than the b qualifier crowd against Swindon. That is probably because it was a not ever going to be a close meeting especially with the big home advantage you used to enjoy.
foreverblue
Indeed, risking losing to Swindon just isn't worth it. I reckon the crowd for the visit of the world champion at the National Speedway Stadium will be the biggest el crowd for several years and the previous poor crowds wolves have attracted should be ignored for an obvious reason. Barring several unusual incidents you cannot lose against Swindon.
Steve0
Swindon haven't booked a place in the playoffs yet and are dependent on Lakeside losing against KL and Swindon beating Leicester. The latter should be easy but everyone thought that earlier in the season when Leicester won at Swindon! Should be clearer at the end of this week (possibly Thursday)
foreverblue
? Swindon lost the a qualifier on the last bend of heat 15 thanks to some comedy riding, everything pointed to a thriller for the cup semi didn't it? Do you mean like last time? On current form they haven't a prayer against Belle Vue.
foreverblue
Which is what you said explained the average crowd for the cup semi last season isn't it? When Swindon came to Belle Vue early in the season they didn't have a prayer either, several Swindon fans were describing their team as pl standard. If they are as bad as you say the cup semi will be even lower than last season and they could still beat us again. They are not that bad but you are better and should win fairly easily, last season you had a big home advantage and you had already won the away leg, so i would expect a much better crowd at a much better stadium. Belle Vue have pretty much owned us in the league encounters so would rightly be favourites over 2 legs whether that be a semi or final. Wolves with the woffy factor will be great business for all teams which will make the play offs even bigger than they usually are. Wolves are a danger for any team but belle Vue are still very much the team to beat.
stevebrum
Even more reason to pick the world champion for the cup semi then. The aces will get a crowd for both win win.
foreverblue
The point is if we pick Swindon and lose again then it will be a lose lose! No need to risk it if we're top, worst case is £win lose and its the £ that matters when it comes to the cup. If you pick Wolves you are more in danger of not making the final.
BluPanther
Nope, we've 'owned' wolves all season but lost at home to Swindon. Even if we did beat Swindon Poole could beat the world champion in the other cup semi and ruin our chance of a massive payday. You won at Wolves because of a 'Klymakorpi 0'. A Wolves team with Tai in it is a completely different proposition. No one will want Wolves in the play offs by choice..
