Shale Searcher
I wondered, by the way he answered the question about 2007, if the dark lord troll was lying and taking yet another opportunity to troll, no surprise he was. He had already stupidly claimed there was NOT a consistent trend of increasing attendances before the playoffs, despite having the figures in front of him. To be fair I don't know if he is a compulsive liar or not, only he can answer that but the evidence is compelling. There were ten teams in the Swedish league in 2007, he answered my question about 2007 by saying there were eight, which makes my point about the detrimental effect the cup and qualifier had on crowds even more emphatic! I've looked again at the figures and it doesn't matter how you deal with the jump between 1998 and 2001 they do show that the steady 4% increase in crowds before 1999 stalled after the cup and qualifier was introduced. I knew my theory about the cup and qualifiers was based on sensible assumptions, without attendance figures it was always going to be easy for the trolls to dismiss. Unlike the dark lord troll I wouldn't demand that what happens in a foreign speedway league is proof that I am right about the UK, but he did say it blows my argument out of the water, which, given these figures, is nice, lol! When Sky first came out, installers were making hay, but as sky dishes became more popular, there were less people to sell it to, Inc a number of the population that didn't want sky, consequently, New installs slowed down, I would hazard a guess that is what happened with Swedish speedway.. less people left to get into speedway Then when HD came out, there was another spike in new installs, I think Swedish speedway reached a set point, and it will fluctuate from here on in, lose a few/gain a few moving forward.. ouch
I'm glad that we can finally agree that the effect of the play offs on crowd size can be gauged by comparing levels before and after their introduction. We needed this kind of analysis to finally put to rest these perennial for and against spats. Whilst I'm happy for the Swedes I have to admit to being gutted for us Brits. I guess it shows the "one size fits all" policy doesn't alway pay dividends. Thanks for the information especially as it leaves you open to abuse from the usual suspects. hyabb17
I stand by what I said a few weeks ago, Belle Vue have the best side in the league & will win it. All round decent side, home & away. Edited August 22, 2016 by hyabb17

mdmc82
I think it's hard to call. Wolves look stronger now with Tai but will need Lindgren and Howarth to improve. They are very strong and home but also good away. They just need everybody to click at the same time. Belle Vue are in my opinion the best of the 4 teams away and have won at Poole, Swindon and Wolves. However they don't have much home track advantage so it would depend on how well they can do at home. Poole are very strong at home but weaker away from home than the above two teams. However they could still make a change before the play offs. As for Swindon & Lakeside I honestly can't see either winning the league. Swindon inconsistent home & away and whilst Lakeside are very good at home, they won't score enough away. I think whoever finishes top might pick either of these. stevebrum
With only Poole and the Aces looking certain at this time it's squeeky bum time for the others. Wolves are no way sure of the top 4 however with home meetings to come with one away they must be favourites. After last night and last week Swindon look favourites for the other spot unless Lakeside can get away points at 2 of their remaining meetings and should win the 2 home matches.

orion
I think Lakeside will still get the 4th spot ..the likelihood is that Swindon will beat the lions at home and pick up nowt at Wolves ,Belle Vue and Lakeside leaving them on 47 ...Lakeside should win there last two home matches leaving them on 46 meaning if they were to get 1 bonus point at either Cov or Kl (what I think they can) it will leave them also on 47 as well, giving them the last spot as they will have better points difference than Swindon . damosuzuki
Very hard to call atm. I still have Poole as favourites in my head, mainly because BV only need a couple of underperformers on the night, and reserves wise Poole are the strongest team no doubt. To an outsider looking in the EL playoffs are an exciting proposition - and I'm still taking Poole. Poole BV Wolves / Swindon

chris4gillian
Poole have the best 1-7 but seem to be chucking it away I wouldn't say one loss away to Swindon is chucking it away Gavan!! We'll recover those lost points tomorrow when the whipping boys arrive at Wimborne Road I'd still say we're favourites over 2 legs (but I'm biased lol) however BV continue to look good with Swindon now playing rapid catch up and Wolves thereabouts also. It could be one of the better playoff years for a while. Edited August 23, 2016 by chris4gillian

Shockster
Looks certain to me now that Belle Vue will finish top of the League. Can't imagine they will choose either Wolves or Poole and I believe Swindon will finish 4th. So I'll take BV to beat Swindon and Wolves to beat Poole in the Semis Final could go anyway but Wolves would be my pick right now. A lot can happen before the final though and injuries could have a say.
LisaColette
Why would they not choose Poole? Swindon are riding better than Poole are.
Shockster
Why would they not choose Poole? Swindon are riding better than Poole are. It seemed a pretty close match at BV yesterday and no doubt Poole have stronger depth than Swindon. Doyle & Tungate going well for Swindon but not a lot else, unless Morris or Grajczonek suddenly hit form.

Surely Belle Vue would want to see what Swindon do on their second visit given they hit 50 there previously, yes with a high scoring Tungate at reserve balanced out by the omission of Doyle. While the meeting was also early in the season, Kings Lynn shows Belle Vue haven’t yet shrugged of the ability to be turned over at home - if Swindon score big again, picking them would be a huge risk.
