mikec
Thought Brummies were good value for their win. Tom Bacon & Danyon Hume were very good. Smithy junior looks an exciting prospect too - was great to see dad sprinting up the track to re-fuel his bike at one point, he was bit of a speedway hero of mine back in the early 80's, young Jack a chip off the block for sure. Track was a bit slick & dry, still one or two good races, heats 13 & 14 the pick. Plenty of Birmingham fans up here, hope they enjoyed the win, facilities & come back for the league encounter.
Reviresco
A great shame for Danyon the way Heat 15 ended for him. Blown his motor to pieces and wrecked his new race suit. Feel sorry for the lad after his cartwheeling experience at Foxhall, he finds the frame is bent which ruins his return to Rye House then score paid 14 on Wednesday, gets overlooked by Ipswich for their match at Owlerton, then scores 10 from 4 at Belle Vue and is confirmed the Witches No. 7 for the rest of the season. Started the season on 3.79, latest BSPA list shows him on 6.82.
birchfield aces
Another terrific performance from the Brummies, all round a great team effort, My first visit to the National Stadium, impressive.
edmon
What was Referee Flint doing last night. Mistake in heat 2 when he penalised Parkinson-Blackburn. Rules clearly state that the motorcycle must touch or break the tapes. Mr Drury obviously doesn't know the rules either since he didn't seem to object. brianbuck
My first visit to the new Belle Vue and I was outstandingly impressed. Couldn't fault the stadium, the facilities or the viewing. Thoroughly enjoyed an excellent meeting and look forward to more trips to Manchester before the end of the season. Disagree with the last poster though. I was seated directly in line with the start and JPB definitely did touch the tapes so the decision was a fair one. Having said that, I thought the exclusion of Dan Bewley in heat 15 was unnecessarily petty. He was on the point of being pushed off when his exclusion light came on, so as the Brummies were then six points to the good and couldn't be caught, the ref could have made a commonsense decision and given the crowd the chance to see what had promised to be a good race. Fair enough, the referee applied the rules but given the circumstances he could have been a touch more lenient. I must say though that each time I have seen Bewley I have been impressed with his skills. He is an outstanding prospect and I wish him well - and he impressed me even more by the way he calmly accepted the decision in that last heat. Well done Belle Vue though on a well-presented meeting. The track was a bit dry but then, it was a baking hot day, and I know they were pleased with the attendance, and we were pleased with another Brummies win, so it was a good day all round! Checked with another of our group, who was at the meeting, he was also of the opinion that JPB's machine did not touch the tapes, albeit he did catch them with his helmet peak which does not warrant a penalty.
