Somerset Vs Berwick 29/7/16

Recommended Posts

Predictable enough result.

Berwick were much better than their score suggests. Up until the last 4 races or so they were hanging on in there but just crumbled like a soggy custard cream. Jorgensen went awol after starting well, the Pole was pretty useless whilst Gappmaier impressed riding around the air bags.

For Somerset, Starke, Wright and Tungate especially were superb. Tungate just looks invincible around the OTA. Allen and Wilson-Dean both seem so down on power tonight, and concerning this has been a problem for Wilsom-Dean for a number of weeks now. Hopefully he can get back to the speed he was showing just over a month or so ago.

If heat 11 had run its course before Jake's crash then that score would have been much closer. Rohan looked beaten in that one but as often happens he popped out the start and cruised home. Great to see Wrighty back out around the boards too!

We always seem to be entertaining visitors but always seem to crumble in the last few heats against decent teams away from home. When we have had a win and a draw it was due to or selected guest have a good night.

That's what happens when you only have 1 heat leader and the other team has 3.

For the last two seasons Doolan and Jorgensen have been acting as out and out heat leaders when they would actually be support heat leaders or top second strings in teams like Edinburgh, Somerset or Glasgow. Berwick find it hard to attract the top riders in the league, maybe it is a money thing, maybe it's the track, the geography, i don't know. Even when they signed a marquee name last season (Ben Barker) he went through a heap of injury / bike / personal problems.

What makes it all the more frustrating is when you see a Berwick asset David Bellego performing at a high level for Redcar. What we would give for him to be back in the team.

A lot rests on the cup tie against Rye House next week. A win keeps the season alive, sadly a defeat means the season will peter out in only the first week in August.

Falling away in the last few heats in meetings has been a recurring theme this season especially in away meetings, good to hear that at least Berwick put up a fight. Might need to take another look at Stachyra, early days yes, but in two meetings he has failed to score what R\R was scoring.

Kev has done a good job this season, going through a rough patch at the moment, not a No 1 though, very much a 3rd heat leader. TJ been very steady since removing the pressure of being at No1. Liam has done a solid reserve job, good to have that protected status at No7, but results in giving a false impression as to his average. The rest have been a been a bit hitty missy, perhaps a different story if Seb had not been injured.

Last time I spoke to David, said he would not ride for Berwick again, being a speedway rider, give him the deal he wants and I am sure his mind could be changed

Brad was trying out a new set of clutch plates last night but didn't get him out of the starts as much as he would've liked :t:
