I find it hard to have any decent conversation on here with some, as it seems some just don't read a post as intended.

No one is “fighting” with you here, and haven’t on any other thread on this forum but…if you post vast nonsensical sweeping statements people will reply….that’s the entire nature of the beast of a forum, just accept that and make a logical point back rather than constantly throwing tantrums….it’s so petulant.

 

It evidently isn’t “the norm” to carry a programme board, but people are at a Sporting event they aren’t just walking down the street….

 

Just as it isn’t the norm for fans of Welsh Rugby to wear Dafodils on their head each day, fans of Cricket to wave cards with “4” and “6”, Darts fans to scream 180 every other minute, Football fans to scream “penalty” if someone falls in work.

 

The notion that you regularly see people with t-shirts with their favourite rider across it died out years ago, literally years, just as Wulf Sport jackets did, you might see the odd one or two but that is about it – certainly not the same number of fans who you will see at a game of football wearing colours to represent the team they are supporting yet other sports don’t carry any kind of “geek” stigma that you are attempting to attach based on a fan showing the team they support.

 

Ow and by the way parts of this post were told to me by someone, a newbie mentioned the Dafodil thing and I overheard the bit about the Wulf Sport jackets so that means everything I have said is totally loads more valid and truer than anything you say and if you dare and I mean DARE say anything other than that or reply, it means you are fighting me, literally kicking and scratching me

 

Ow and re Speedway trying to align it's self with other big sports, it's really not, it is muck cheap in all honesty, the prices of things like the GP, World Cup and most league meetings is filth cheap when compared to most other bespoke events held by "big sports".

I have, many times and there are all sorts of weird and wacky characters there in knitted Tim Henman/Andy Murray cardigans, wearing Henman/Murray t-shirts/hats etc.

I've got no problem at all...it's the same old people who like picking fights with whoever. A very vocal minority. It's my turn today apparently.

 

It doesn't bother me though, as I'd have to respect their opinion to be bothered. I don't respect them, as I've seen how they are in many threads. Trolls who like an argument and twist threads to suit.

 

As you can see in the aforementioned...both are rather odd people...they add words to quotes that aren't there, or try to manipulate posts to start an argument. They do it all the time...attacking posters rather than the post.

 

It's hardly fair trying to have a conversation with people when you find out there are mental issues and medication involved. It's a lose lose situation.

You're also totally contradicting yourself.. you tried claiming that only 20 speedway fans would cause people to make the comments you claim they ALWAYS make... yet HUNDREDS of them at Wimbledon wouldn't cause the same issue.. hmm.

 

You do realise, those that queue are the genuine tennis fans? The majority of the others are not, they are there as it's a 'social event', a place to be seen at.

If you have been to Wimbedon as many times as i have, you probably have i first went in 81.These people do not represent England i went when you could choose your court your match now those days have gone.A snobby lot lot False as anything not a England crowd for me. Because even after 40 odd years of watching it and after seeing thousands and thousands of races, in some of the finest stadia in the world, sat alongside 50000 other fans....

 

You can still see something happen in just ONE race at somewhere like Buxton that simply makes you go...

Regarding riders being approachable one of the nicest guys off track is Nicki Pedersen.

Remember those jackets as well!

 

Another great memory was the personalised programme boards. Very innovative some of them. I used to paint programme boards in enamels (actually sold a few too!) and it was exciting prior to a new season starting painting my new board.

 

Riders transporting their bikes on racks on the back of their cars and occasionally spotting them when travelling to and from meetings.

 

Those sun strips (murder to stick on) displayed either on the windscreen or rear window of the car. I recall having three displayed at one time!

My old neighbours never had a clue what speedway was, but used to hear me shouting & screaming at the GP's, so asked about it in the end. They watched a GP and asked me to take them to a meeting as it all looked (and sounded through the wall) so exciting. Never did get around to taking them.

 

Re the attire of speedway fans - you want to go to a Moto GP/WSB/BSB round. I'd say at least 50% of the fans are wearing a t-shirt or cap of their favourite rider. It's not disimilar to what you see at speedway and nobody there seems to have a problem with it.

I used to paint boards to order and even had a contact in Germany who used to purchase some from me. I even painted a board for Steve Regeling's wife!

 

Remember, well, the track shop at Coventry where you could purchase personalised programme boards.

 

Recently saw a car with a bike on a rack pass me on a motorway...really brought back memories!

Lendl v Edberg.I see some great matches on court 1 stopped going after Sampras retired then the precedure of tickets and watching certain matches changed.
