Coventry 2017

This doesn't add up.

No mention of negotiations with Brandon Estates to make the stadium available to Sandhu to reinstate the fixtures to enable the Bees to return to Brandon during the season ...

No incentive for Sandhu to spend the money to reinstate the fixtures at Brandon unless he stands to gain through a resulting deal on planning permission which would then show he has an interest in Brandon Estates, be that personal or through the extended family ...

Only other explanation is he gets a deal on another piece of land to build a stadium of his own in the future.

As for what Horton gains from this, beyond being able to hold on to a Promoters Licence and the assets he bought from Sandhu, what else is there to be gained? Especially as he could achieve both of the former by taking up promotion rights at somewhere like Leicester Lions anyway ...

Don't think the truth will ever be revealed, stay of execution for the Bees of sorts, but for how long, who knows, and at what cost ...

positive news that a lifeline has been given. Yes it's not ideal that it's not at Brandon but at least it gives us a bit more time to try and sort things.

It sounds like it's Brandon Estates the problem is now with and that Leicester will be the short term solution while they try and sort a deal to bring us back home.

COVENTRY RACING CLUB LTD

MR SANDHU and Mick Horton have completely overcome their recent differences for the sake of Coventry Bees and now have only one joint objective and that is to see the Bees run as the Coventry Bees for the 2017 season.

After several weeks of hard work we can happily announce that Coventry Bees will be running in the top flight of speedway and they are both looking forward to a good season of racing.

Even if we are not racing at Brandon at the start of the season we hope that it will not be for very long. Leicester Speedway have given us a lifeline to allow us this breathing space and we would like to thank them for allowing us to use the facility in the short term.

We need the supporters to now play their part and get behind the club and support what we are working towards as we cant do it on our own.

The BSPA could have made this impossible and we would like to thank Keith Chapman, Rob Godfrey, Colin Pratt and others who have managed to persuade the members to allow us the flexibility we need to rebuild the club. It would have been a lot easier for them to exclude us and instead they have worked hard for the sake of the Bees to allow us to continue to run in 2017.

Michael Stokes has been a constant help and supporter in this process so it would be wrong for us not to recognise his determination to see the Bees continue to operate.

Lastly both Mr Sandhu and Mick Horton would like to thank the fans for the support they have shown them and the continued patience but now we need you to rally round the team. We have done the first part which was to keep the Bees in existence, now we need you to show us we were right so please look forwards rather than to the past and let's prove everybody wrong.

BSPA STATEMENT

ENTRY BEES SPEEDWAY: BSPA STATEMENT

Sunday January 29, 2017

THE British Speedway Promoters Association are pleased to finally confirm Coventry Bees will be racing in the 2017 SGB Premiership.

We have accepted proposals for the team to race on a temporary basis at Leicesters Beaumont Park for the opening weeks of the season with the ultimate aim of moving back to Coventry during the campaign.

For the avoidance of doubt, both Coventry and Leicester will be racing as separate teams and this is in no way an amalgamation of the two clubs.

The move has been made to keep Coventry on track in very trying circumstances with their former Brandon Stadium home currently unavailable.

However, strenuous efforts will continue to be made to take the team back to the famous site.

We would like to place on record our thanks to Avtar Sandhu of Coventry Racing Club Ltd for supporting this venture, Leicester Speedway, Councillor Stokes and Mick Horton, Coventry Bees promoter.

As an association we have tried to give every opportunity for Coventry, a world famous club with a rich heritage, to remain in action at the highest level of British Speedway.

Our best wishes go to both Leicester Lions and Coventry Bees for a successful 2017 season and we look forward to seeing the Bees move back home at the earliest possible time during the season.

COVENTRY BEES

Sunday January 29, 2017

COVENTRY Speedway are pleased to confirm they will be competing in the SGB Premiership this season.

The winter has produced an unprecedented series of circumstances which have required extensive and detailed negotiations, involving several parties.

With Brandon Stadium currently unavailable, agreement has been reached for the club to begin the 2017 season with home matches to be staged at Beaumont Park, Leicester.

It must be stressed that this is for the full Coventry Bees team to race under their own name, on their regular Friday race night, whilst Leicester themselves will continue to operate under their own promotion.

Numerous options have been considered over recent weeks, but promoter Mick Horton and Coventry Racing Club chief Avtar Sandhu remain determined that the club will return to Coventry at the soonest possible opportunity.

Work is continuing in this respect but with the need to secure the future of the club of the utmost importance, we would like to place on record our thanks to all parties who have helped facilitate this temporary arrangement.

Horton said: We had to find a solution which enabled the club to survive whilst the negotiations continue to bring us back to Coventry.

That is going to involve us racing some meetings at Beaumont Park at the start of the season, and I must place on record my thanks to Leicester for their co-operation.

We are rivals on-track but they have been more than helpful throughout, and I won't forget that if they ever need a favour in return!

My thanks also go to the BSPA for their support and understanding of these difficult circumstances, and for allowing us to race at Leicester, and also to Cllr Michael Stokes and Rugby Borough Council for their continued assistance.

It is well documented that Mr Sandhu and I have had our differences in the past. These are behind us; we are both passionate about the Bees and we are both determined for this interim arrangement to work with the ultimate aim of a return to Brandon as soon as possible.

It is a relief to us all that we will be able to take to the track this season with our seven riders who have had to cope with so much uncertainty over the winter.

I must also say to our supporters from a personal point of view that it has been frustrating to be unable to provide them with more information at times, and I hope they can respect that.

We have been working round-the-clock to ensure the club can continue but the nature of our talks have had to remain confidential.

It goes without saying that this arrangement can only be successful with everyone working together - management, sponsors, supporters, everyone involved.

I know racing at Leicester for the time being is going to present some difficulties to supporters, I understand that, and we will be looking at various measures in an attempt to make things easier.

We all realise it isn't going to be straightforward, but this club is too big to just let it fold. That most definitely could have happened during the winter, and we've kept on working to ensure that doesn't happen.

We've now got to have everyone backing us to make it work, and to prove that we were all right to save the Bees."

Isn't anybody actually happy that Coventry Bees are continuing to ride and there is the aim of that being at Brandon ?

Yes I am. I have very happy memories of Brandon but I remain very sceptical that there will be a happy ending.

Can't fault all parties for trying but I suggest it's far from sorted

Hope this is now the start of a new beginning and not the start of a gradual demise Speedway needs Coventry and Coventry needs Speedway. What is needed now is positive actions from all concerned including Supporters, your journey to BP may be longer but if you can make the journey do anything you can to try to keep your great club going, suggestions on this forum would be an idea and perhaps the management may take some on board. I'll start it off - how about a park and ride - park at Brandon and a coach to and from BP at minimum price and you get some good conversation with fellow supporters on the way.

Really pleased for ya.

But if you track share which I rekon will be all season and not just the beginning then it should be in different leagues.

When they meet Leicester will have a easy chance to get a 4 point away win. And visa versa when Coventry are away against Leicester.

But ignoring thag then we'll done bspa for sorting the mess out.

This should mean Leicester and belle vue can now start announcing riders

I think they mistakenly thanked Sandhu for causing all the trouble in the first place , If he hadn't nicked all the fixtures from himself and vandalised the stadium , there would be no problem , everything was set to go .until he spat the dummy again .

And there in lies your problem. That word has no place being mentioned in the same breath as Beaumont Park.

Rubbish news and the Bees will be out of business within weeks anyway.

Its 'rubbish news' that the Bees survive and could well be back at Brandon ?

I'd like to hear your description of the news had it been complete closure.

Compared to the situation we had three days ago its both fantastic and incredible.

Its a slow death Instead of a graceful end , ultimately this is all Sandhu's doing ,and he still doesn't have the good grace to show himself as the man who killed Coventry speedway
