Coventry 2017

Last time Horton made an announcement it was in the late evening / early night-time. Expect nothing different this time, unless there's a plane to the USA that he needs to catch.

British Speedway will struggle to get over this closed season mess and I just don't see a brighter future for the sport because of the way those involved run it.

How can Leicester,Coventry or Belle Vue attract sponsors, new supporters & sell season tickets ? Also other teams fans buying season tickets is a risk if they all don't start the season or complete it.

I don't think speedway will recover from this winters problems sadly.

How many said that in 2010 ?

(and by the way that is 7 years ago).

I'd say the problems at this stage of the year were far, far worse then but we're still here. The funny thing is that I'd say they are created at least in part by the same man.

The situation with Belle Vue, Leicester and Coventry is not symptomatic of the sport as a whole and the fact that they are having difficulties at the same time is coincidental, for the simple reason that the principal difficulties are all different. At Belle Vue, it was the losses run up by the promotion. At Leicester, it was just the promotion. At Coventry, the stadium.

As to the BSPA, I have on many occasions been extremely critical of them. This time, however, I totally agree with Tsunami that Buster Chapman has 'played a blinder'.

Belle Vue are running. Confirmation awaiting, but they are. I am not sure of Chapman's role in that but he has definitely played a part. At Leicester, he has almost single handedly saved the speedway team by purchasing the lease to the stadium himself. If he is involved in trying to sort Coventry out I for one am thankful for it and, to me, it defies reason that anyone is being critical of the part he has played.

I suspect that Coventry Bees fans need to look at Mick Horton as the main cause of the "where are we now" situation. His track record of not getting it right goes back a long way at other tracks. It seems obvious that the Bees are not going to run at Brandon in 2017 - unless they start the season in May or June. Sharing at Leicester is going to be a financial flop unless it's just for a couple of months but even that is likely to prove costly.

I think Mick Horton has a case to answer here but, lets face it, it wasn't his workmen that went into Brandon and did so much damage that they made it unfit for purpose.

Had that not happened, Coventry Bees fans would be talking about the new season, not talking about the finish of their team.

the reason sandhu went in and took his stuff , was because of horton , horton thinks he's hitler , sandhu is the one whio has spent money on brandon , not horton so carnt blame him for taking his stuff , i also blame horton for the breakdown in there relationship as many folk tend to fall out with horton over stupid things , mainly financial.... he still owes kenni larsen money

Think some took the survey as a permenant move.

I personally couldn't get to Leicester on a Friday night to watch Coventry.

I live in Coventry & I finish work at 6.30pm and have no transport so there would be no way I could do it.

I couldnt do it when I'm on a Friday day shift.

This post is completely wrong in all aspects. Sandhu took his stuff because of Brandon Estates not Horton, Horton doesn't own the stadium ffs!

And again! The stadium owners are stopping us from using the stadium as things stand because they have issue with Sandhu.

The chairman not official enough then? Although he did only say he was 'hopeful' of some news at midday.

Where did the chairman official say that?

Only person I saw say anything about a possible midday announcement was the writer for the Coventry Observer and even he stated it was only a possibility

There is no doubt whatsoever that Horton is to blame here. Sandhu may regret his actions (and they may have been hasty), but Horton is firmly the reason why the Bees are in their current predicament.

HC is correct if you believe everything that the Stox were saying.

Horton was due to take the stadium lease in January.

From that point Stox were to have an agreement with Horton to run Stox's

Previous to this Stox announced they'd negotiated the stadium lease fees & team sponsorship package for Horton & the Coventry Bees with Brandon Estates

Stox also agreed to contribute towards the stadium running costs

Stox also stated on 3 occasions as they were just about to sign the agreement with Horton, Horton wanted to change the T's & C's

Numerous time the local councillor had to negotiate with Horton & Stox

Agreements reached then not etc

Brandon Estates only became part of the issue when Sandhu took his toys

Thus making it impossible for Horton to sign the stadium lease with Brandon Estates.

How exactly? He isn't the stadium owner, he isn't the one who took stuff out, he isn't the one who sold the site in the first place. He went out and negotiated a lease, did Sandhu? Why isn't Sandhu negotiating a lease, why didn't Sandhu negotiate a lease in the first place despite saying he would pay for everything? Brandon Estates won't let Sandhu on the site to replace things, why? Is it a grudge? Do they have 'history'? Horton didn't sign the lease but you can understand why especially as Brandon needed Sandhu's funds to run. Horton has his faults but in this instance he is the last person to blame out of the 3 parties. If Brandon Estates and Sandhu didn't have a fued would we be in this situation? No.

Unfortunately your incorrect. Brandon Estates never wanted Sandhu to operate beyond 2016. This is why Horton had to go out and get a lease instead of Sandhu extending the lease he had. If he was to pay for it all why wouldn't he be the leaseholder? This issue has been ongoing before 2016

'However Mr Chapman is hopeful an announcement will be made by Mick Horton before midday today.'

That is where I got it from. Shame your newspaper is not as reliable as the Bournemouth Echo then!

And why would that be do you think? Perhaps because Sandhu and/or his family are Brandon Estates. Mick Horton is offered the lease....supposedly......Sandhu causes as much mayhem as he can making it impossible to accept. Job done. What's really also diabolical in all this is the complete silence from the Coventry promoters leaving loyal fans not knowing what's going on. Worse decision ever to treat us like this whether things are 'delicate' or not. Totally peed off.

I have no idea why but you'd have to think about why Sandhu has never even tried to get one. Doesn't make sense to me he's more than willing to pay for everything yet not be leaseholder. I can understand the silence in regard negotiations and what it entails but we could have more updates as in if things are progressing etc. We seems to get more info from CWR than anywhere else at the minute.

Even if Horton did sign the lease i don't think anything would be any different.
