Coventry 2017

Recommended Posts

I was looking forward to the local derbies....

We can debate the rights and wrongs of the current situation surrounding Coventry Speedway. We can blame or support the key players (not Michael Stokes; he's a hero, no argument). At the end of the day, we just want every club to open their doors next March.

At the moment ie during the whole of December, surely everything is at a bit of an impasse as neither Coventry Racing Club nor Coventry Speedway have any rights over stadium access until January 1st - assuming leases are signed etc.

Presumably Brandon Estates will not allow Sandhu's people in to 'restore the fixtures and fittings' until they are satisfied that things weren't done with any malice?!

Mick Horton is presumably also in 'no mans land' until Jan 1st and is right not to give any statement which may be taken by some to enflame the situation.

I hope its a Happy New Year for Speedway fans.

I think this is pretty much spot on.

Statement issued within last few minutes by Councillor Stokes he called another meeting with Horton/Sandhu to cut it short it appears that the meeting ended amicably and there was full agreement the stadium will be repaired and Speedway/Stocks will take place during 2017 and the Councillor urges supporters of both sports to get behind their teams. Well done Councillor Stokes!!!.

Blimey councillor's arn't usually praised but Mr Stokes deserves huge gratitude from speedway fans everywhere and especially Coventry ones. A very large christmas box should be forthcoming.

Where did you see this statement? Some fans who went near stadium today said police were there & items looked like still being removed.

Tried logging on to the Coventry site.

They are having a Critical Error.

Sums it all up really.

Oh well that's a change from seeing April news. Someone commented they weren't worried about this as the website is still there. Now it's not so I wonder if they're getting a little more concerned?

Got to apologise and really sorry I looked at Counvillor Stokes site and the message read 6 mins ago I then read the old release and I made a terrible mistake by reading the OLD release. Really sorry I raised the hopes of all supporters. Back to the drawing board sorry folks hold me head in shame

I wouldn't worry too much!

This saga has been up and down more than a Blackpool roller-coaster so a bit of slightly out of date news won't alter much.

Website still has April's news on it. People who know more than me about websites think it's just an error on the system because it would be easier to delete the whole site instead of just a small section plus it's bizarre to delete up to a certain point. Having said that it should've been sorted asap.

Not my territory but as many are asking about the state of Brandon, there is a report in the Coventry Observer -

website: coventryobserver.co.uk/tags/sports/speedway - (with a few images included)

The police are now involved and also an insurance company and until both have completed their investigations into the damage which has been caused, all work to repair the stadium is suspended.

Hopefully everything will be sorted out soon and Coventry can begin preparing for the new season.
