Berwick Vs Glasgow 27/7/16

Recommended Posts

There are 5 off us that usually come down together in the car but due to mid-week work dictates that we can't make this, know a fair few who won't make it so away support will be much less than normal.

Can't be helped i suppose with avaliable dates etc but with Glasgow historically bringing a large away support Wednesday was never going to work I'm afraid.

Same for me unfortunately.

I completely understand you guys, would be the same for us mainly if the other way round, despite not having many home rain offs at all the fact that we normally race on a Saturday means that we don't have many if any free dates, it's a shame this meeting couldn't be against a team such as Ipswich or Somerset though instead of Glasgow who bring the biggest number of fans usually.

The problem is, as soon as it was rearranged to accomodate SkySports, it became clear that the Tigers simply couldn't fulfil a Saturday night because of their riders who double at EL level being claimed by the other club.

Berwick desperately wanted to accomodate Glasgow on a Saturday, but they just couldn't come with a full squad -- which naturally, they want to do.

Dennis McCleary made things clear in the newsletter: “We have to thank Glasgow for their full co-operation and appreciation of our position. We know a Wednesday night isn't ideal for travellers but it is during the main holiday period, the schools are out for summer and a lot of visitors are in town at the holiday camps. It will be a 7.30pm start and with Glasgow riding at Redcar the next night it means their riders -- and perhaps quite a few fans -- will be in this part of the world anyway".

“It really was a Catch 22 situation trying to organise Glasgow's visit, and we are going with Wednesday 27th which is between the Saturdays taken up by the Fours and World Cup Final. I'd like to thank the Tigers again for their assistance, and hope their fans understand the situation".

Will be there. This meeting is a chance for us to get back in away form. Coty at 2, Aaron Richard and Ritchie are all capable of scoring well.... Hopefully we gate and get off to a good start to a week that could make or hamper our cup and league season.

Surely if the home Team can fulfill the fixture on their regular race night the opposition should be made to accept the match and employ the guest rules(not that I like guest situations) it is damaging Berwicks situation IMO by having no Speedway on their regular race night. It will be interesting to see the crowd level for this fixture which is usually pretty healthy when the Tigers are in Town. Whilst I agree with you, Glasgow turning up with guests galore and/or R/R on a Saturday could have the same effect on travelling fans as this Wednesday`s meeting is going to have. Looks like Berwick were caught between a rock and a hard place.

Not really, when the original Saturday was changed to accomodate Sky, Glasgow had the right not to accept the (many) offered replacement Saturdays as their riders (who would have raced for the Tigers, ahead of their EL sides) would be unavailable for a rearrangement.

The damage -- and it will be considerable -- to the attendance on Wednesday through lack of travelling supporters is really caused by the poison of riders doubling up, down and probably sideways. Berwick don't suffer from this, but sadly most other clubs do, which makes the business of rearranging fixtures (for all clubs) a nightmare.

Can't wait to see the Berwick third bend boys in full flight (from reality) - their traditional chorus of 'cum on the lads' ringing in our ears, Dick interrupting the riders preparations with a joke from the Morecambe and Wise xmas special, 1977 and the kids having a snowball fight on the back straight. Happy days.

Hopefully the "Sky Money "compensates for the lower than usual income fron this fixture.i agree the rider situation is not helpful and is killing the sport IMO

Berwick caused it by accepting the Sky fixture by the looks of it.IMO

Surely the fault lies with the BSPA, admittedly Berwick is at fault by ceding to demands from Glasgow and Glasgow is at fault for pressing for a change.

When a club assembles a team, it will be fully aware of double up problems with the EL, and is up to them to field a competitive team on the designated race night. The BSPA should force Glasgow to assemble a team on Berwicks normal race night. and should demand that it happens, if the visiting team cannot conform, then all the points go the the home team.

Which Glasgow riders are riding on a Saturday night. Summers has 3 left for Leicester, but I can't see any more.

Berwick made every effort to restage the match on a Saturday (see post #5) but Glasgow could not commit to any offered date.

There is no ill-feeling about this, Berwick would have declined a restaged away fixture date if (for instance) Theo Pijper was long-tracking or TJ had a Danish match.

Wednesday was mutually-agreed, and as reported intoday's e-Newsletter both teams have 7-man teams of their own riders, the weather looks promising and Glasgow are bringing a coach-load of supporters.

Let's go racing!
