Event 2 Vastervik 26/7/16

Obviously we don't know the ins and outs of Mr J and his tax affairs (but have heard the stories), but in recent years the Yanks have tried to blood a youngster. But this was when they felt 3rd place was nailed on. They know they haven't a chance of any better than the race off, so maybe they'll give the Boy a go at the NSS. The Swedes look very strong at home and if Greg doesn't get a big one they'll need every point possible from the other 3 to beat the Germans.

So probably the right idea to try everything to get through, and then give the lad a ride.

Fox was 26 when he came over. The four riders I have named are better at 18/19 than Fox was at 23/24.

Manzares had a good first season here, and could well be back next year

Saying Nicol should ride in preference to Janniro is equivalent to saying Wajtknecht should be selected in preference to Danny King. (Janniro and King are both current national champions)

Jimmy Chang could be the Chinese champion...does that mean he's at the same level as Danny King? Janniero could hardly score a point at Fisher's testimonial at Edinburgh against PL reserves, what good is having Janniero in the team going to do them, they don't need experience so they may as well try and give a youngster experience, as they did with Ruml, I don't think they would lose any points

I love Billy J and can't wait t see him on Friday (assuming they make it) but he couldn't ride big tracks when he was a regular EL performer with a 7 point (with bonus points) average, he is going to be spat out the back. Just hope he makes a gate or two to get in the way for a while :D

Unfortunately, the time when the States had a worthwhile team, is now just a distant memory. Once they ruled the world with their brash, in your face, characters. Riders like Penhall, Morans, Schwartz were household names and big draws for any promoter. These were later followed by Ermolenko, Hamill and Hancock. All quality riders. But the once proud production line of American talent appears to have dried up.

The old saying ' You reap what you sow' is never more correct than in the development of young riders. That is why Poland will start as favourites to win this years SWC .......

Weather Forecast for Tuesday...

Very warm day, 22c to 26c by teatime, then heavy showers developing into thunderstorms, clearing Vastervik by 9.30pm/10pm..

Not the best forecast, but, thunderstorms can be very localised and erratic, could hit the track, one after another, or they all could miss the track by a couple of miles...

Will update around T24..

Weather update for race day..

Well, the thunderstorms risk has not gone away, but there times have modified. Temps a little cooler than Saturdays forecast, now 21c to 24c

The thunderstorm risk has moved to earlier in the day, which is in fact a really good thing, now expected to break out around lunchtime. There is still a slight risk for later in the day, but at the moment it's negligible..

So, if the track cops a good un around lunchtime, dumping tons of water down, all round the track, would be 1000% better than using a bowser to water.. if it does arrive at lunchtime, and clears away to sunshine/cloud environment, the track without human interferance should be the dogs b0110x by race time!!

Bring it on!!

Well, it's 13:45, can anyone confirm that Vastervik has just had or is having a thunderstorm at the moment???

Noticed twice in the first 4 heats riders going across the centre green. Must only be banned in the UK.

Is it everywhere in the UK then? I know it's banned @ Belle Vue but it's an astroturf type surface so understandable. Can understand if it is banned due to the amount of people and potential hazards on centre greens.

That win for Smolinski puts a lot of pressure on the USA now. Vital that Hancock secures 6pts when they use him.

Indeed, it's something of a bonus to have the 2 separate battles for places, could well go to the wire for all the places.

What a mature rider Max Fricke is, so impressive every time I see him.
