orion
Yet another fan has realised the silliness of one of speedway long-established rules - the guest system - and it throwing up the case of Scott Nicholls. One night he's battling for his second-placed Belle Vue team against Wolves, who are top. The next thing, he drops in to the Wolves line-up as a guest, in the process battling to keep Wolves ahead in the table of his Belle Vue team! Dum-de-dum-de-dum... He just realised after 50 years ....as has been said a million times when someone comes with something better that is fair and also will also not effect the size of the crowd let us all know ...up intill now no one has done that ....dum-de-dum de-dum

Exactly! For some, it takes a few seconds to realise the sport is a circus act; others, it takes 50 years. I was quite quick... took me nearly 40 years! I was quite quick... took me nearly 40 years! The crowd that go's to speedway ...as I said it's one thing for likes of him to go on about guests etc and another one to come with something better ..so unless he or anyone finds a better way then moaning makes them look stupid and his letter pointless . And before you start going on about crowds being poor and blaming guests just remember crowds massive when we had them . What amazes is that people who don't go on to speedway go on to speedway forum to read about a sport they know longer like or go to ...

waiheke1
When Michael Lee was banned back in 83? Pooles favourite two guest riders for him were John 'cowboy' Cook and Phil Collins and both always did a sterling job for the Pirates.84. Both of them exciting riders to watch, though neither of the caliber of Lee.
f-s-p
What crowd? Exactly! For some, it takes a few seconds to realise the sport is a circus act; others, it takes 50 years. I was quite quick... took me nearly 40 years! It is a circus act, pure entertainment. No testing involved for lower admission of greenhouse gasses or what ever. No developing of lower fuel consumption or what ever. No testing of aerodynamics or what ever. No developing of computerised engine controlling or what ever. It's 15 heats a meeting of entertainment for the paying public with basically 50 year old technology on the bikes.
steve roberts
Of course the old British League Division Two and later National League never resorted to using guests. If a team hit trouble they either resorted to using R/R or promoted a junior. Teams like Eastbourne had many likely lads ready to replace an injured colleague...hence why the old ideal of the second tier of racing developed many riders. Unfortunately it began to adopt the ways of the upper league and, as they say, the rest is history.
New Science
There was a better letter about Woffinden swearing in the same edition - in my opinion. Don't know why people are so easily offended these days. That language is the norm for how most young people speak.Heard worse language in a Primary school playground. Get in the real World ! Unfortunately it began to adopt the ways of the upper league and, as they say, the rest is history. Back then the BJL raced home and away plus riders in the first team often helped the kids and the same in the NJL where teams travelled everywhere, the standard of junior racing back then was a very good standard compared to the current 3rd tier teams now. New Science
It's all about standards- i'm obviously not in the gutter like you. Sorry Tim, If you had read my posts on the other Tai Woffinden thread you would know we are exactly in the same place,ie not in the gutter. Ive consistently criticised Woffinden over his actions in front of 40 thousand people and the watching audience live on TV at 7.45 on a Saturday night. But every time I do "the Woffinden can do as he wants because he is the champ" brigade jump all over me saying its just how people now speak in the modern World and to keep up. Sorry but it was a sarcastic mickey take at their expense , definitely not a dig at your post. I think most people are on the same page but a vocal minority try and jump on them when they dare to criticise the World Champion and pass it off as a nothing.
OveFundinFan
So if the language Tai used at Cardiff is the "norm" these days, why was it just this week Bob Geldoff at some outdoor music festival in Basildon got booed for his continued use of the f word. Also BT Sport showed highlights of this years GP series so far, of course they featured Cardiff and not a mention of TW and his "famous" call to the crowd. Dornier
The trouble with swearing is that they test the water once and then if they get away with it they swear again and before you know it even worse words are introduced and you end up with a Gordon Ramsey type programme. Most decent people who have been brought up properly don`t want to hear it. Edited July 23, 2016 by dornier

Again a superb post and spot on about being brought up properly and for tai to happily swear knowingly in front of children too and no apology either shows a complete lack of class. OveFundinFan
Important meeting tonight, adrenalin must have been flowing, probably plenty reasons for getting high, but no swearing during interviews. It can be done.
