King's Lynn V Swindon 20th July 7.30pm

Recommended Posts

Yes, the centre green that day was the centre snow.

As you rightly say, things have changed:

Too much clay in the surface material

Bikes too powerful and beyond control in poor conditions.

Bring back Alan Belham in the wet in his boiler suit.

Those were the days

I used to think the same but having seen a few matches go ahead at the NSS after a lot of rain with good racing and race times, particularly the last meeting against Leicester, I have changed my mind. The bikes can cope well if there is a good track shape and drainage.

Obviously, there will be occasions when it will be just too wet or when it is raining during a meeting but there is now much more confidence at Belle Vue that meetings will go ahead.

Half the problem is the type of shale Lynn use, it is so high in clay content that even the smallest amount of overwatering from the sky or the bowser and conditions can become unfit very quickly. We got covered on the first bend during heat one on Wednesday and its was difficult to remove the blobs of muck from your clothes or skin so sticky it was. Can't imagine getting plastered by it on track, no wonder there were such enormous gaps between each rider.

No doubt the Shale issue will come back to haunt us. We have only managed 15 meetings in the first 4 months of the season. I've lost count of the number of rain-offs we've had. We now have to 13 meetings left to squeeze in the last 6 weeks before the playoffs.

Our next meeting is away to Swindon 4th Aug. followed by Poole at home on the 11th . We don't stand a chance in hell of getting them all completed......

The EL needs to decide what it wants...

Full teams of riders every match, 100% committed to the sport in this country riding on nights when it suits the club best so they can generate their best crowd and income?

The Pl does that and it never generates crowds or income so why would anyone want to do that ..people like Rory nearly spent the rest of his life in a wheelchair after his crash last year but some people want him to risk his life on a dangerous track ....and when he chooses not to that people say he's not committed .
