RPNY
I was always surprised it never took off in Spain either. They like their Motorcycles down there, perfect climate. All arrows pointed to it being a popular - other than no one had any interest hahahaha

DutchGrasstrack
Spain is a perfect location for speedway. Would be good to have a speedway support class at their yearly big flattrack meeting in Barcelona

Sort of like it was ironic that a week or two after the GPs in Gelsenkirchen, the stadium hosted a stock car event and was sold out year after year

iris123
Did Gustix go? Not sure, but typically after 10 years of running the event, last year an Anglo-German woman won and that was the end https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j3LWokp9g3A

I was lucky enough to go to the one that went ahead.A mate of mine came over from Manchester for the second one.Just happy i didn't bother. But one of the biggest scandals in the sport of recent years.Bad enough that, but to then follow it with a few others was too much and heads at the top should have rolled
Humphrey Appleby
Bad enough that, but to then follow it with a few others was too much and heads at the top should have rolled I think they did ultimately. There was something of a movement of staff after the Warsaw fiasco, although Philipe told us it wasn't related. I went to that (non) GP and 8 years on with no explanation still kind of pssed off about it. Wasn't the official explanation that the shale wasn't stored in the right pyramid shaped conditions? Or was that another indoor GP I'm thinking about, or both? Edited September 15, 2016 by Humphrey Appleby

I wish you hadn`t reminded me of that meeting - me and friends were further inconvienced with our flight late on Sunday night from Weeze being cancelled by that marvellous airline Ryanair !!!!!! RPNY
I think they did ultimately. There was something of a movement of staff after the Warsaw fiasco, although Philipe told us it wasn't related. Wasn't the official explanation that the shale wasn't stored in the right pyramid shaped conditions? Or was that another indoor GP I'm thinking about, or both? That was the official reason but I still don't believe it. Plus there was a column in the SS about a month previous saying the rumor mill was already churning that it was going to be called off! I'm a massive fan of the GP's (unlike yourself!) but that one in particular left somewhat of a sour taste. I traveled to Warsaw and although it was annoying and somewaht of an embarassement you could tell it was Rookie errors, stuborn riders and a combination of misfortune that led to its premature ending. Gelsenkirchen... there was something fishy there!
PHILIPRISING
So what happened to 'the Latvian GP is likely to back in Riga in 2016'? HAD better options including Teterow... I think they did ultimately. There was something of a movement of staff after the Warsaw fiasco, although Philipe told us it wasn't related. WHAT movement of staff? Humphrey Appleby
WHAT movement of staff? Bellamy moved on within the organisation, Nicola Sands left and at least one other seemed to disappear, and I think there were board level changes. You know that perfectly well though. PHILIPRISING
Bellamy moved on within the organisation, Nicola Sands left and at least one other seemed to disappear, and I think there were board level changes. You know that perfectly well though. YOU are twisting the facts to suit your ill-informed opinions. Paul Bellamy only changed roles last year when he took over as Managing Director of Rallycross, When IMG acquired the rights to rallycross an in-house lawyer (Martin, cannot remember his surname) took the reins under the stewardship of Rob Armstrong, in overall charge of motorsport, and with some help from Paul. When Martin, a top class rugby player, left to run the Pro-12 series, and with Torben Olsen established as Paul's no 2 it was decided to move Paul to rallycross and promote Torben who might otherwise have moved elsewhere. Nothing to do with Gelsenkirchen. Nicola Sands felt that she needed a change after 15 years and to get a normal life after years of working very long hours and being away from home and her husband so often. She was head-hunted by Pro-12 rugby and took up their offer. Any other changes at BSI Speedway were simply staff churn. Two of the commercial managers actually went to Manchester United, one is now with the PGA of America (golf) and the other has set up his own thriving business. Event managers come and go because by and large they cannot move up the chain. Nothing sinister here at all and certainly nothing to do with Gelsenkirchen. Or, indeed, Warsaw. The problems there were well documented at the time and, like Warsaw last year, simply came down to the fact that the material used for the track was too wet when laid and inside a cold stadium and on a concrete base could not be dried sufficiently to allow the meeting to go ahead. Any conspiracy theories that the meeting was never going to take place are pure poppy cock.
