Harris

Recommended Posts

I've heard and read people calling him an embarrassment in the last few days. Well he's IS #15 in the World in 2016 at worst now whatever happens, he HAS qualifier for the 2016 GP series. That means every other speedway rider but the top 14 must be beyond embarrassing.

Former World #6, GP winner. Multi-GB Champion. How many of todays riders would honestly not swap their career for his?

So as a Chris Harris fan I'm proud of what he's achieved. I'm proud that the guy DOES NOT give up, ever, be it in a single race or that pie int he sky dream of being World Champion. I'm proud that he puts British speedway first, I'm proud that he turned up and ride anywhere and everywhere he can.

One thing I have never been as a Chris Harris fan is embarrassed. Disappointed many time, frustrated a lot but never embarrassed.

Long may Bomber continue to do what he does, entertain and WOW us at league level and continue to fight for a World Championship.

amen to that . On the Rostrum at the last GP shows what he's capable of when it all goes right . needs to sort the backroom out if anything . and learn to listen to those who know . not those who talk shyt

I think if anybody was to ask me in 30 years time which rider would be considered in the same breath as other great riders of old it would be Chris Harris. He won the first speedway meeting I ever attended, the British Final at Wolverhampton in 2007 and he's still a top league rider and top British international. He's probably one of a few riders these days who would have fared far better in days gone by, on tracks and with bikes that would have suited him far better I think.

Chris has suffered in the World Championship since 2011 when the new silencers came in, and the track he rode last night was nothing like the one he won on in 2007

Others seem to be doing OK - why not him?

I am actually a big Fan of Chris. I am just frustrated at times by his lack of success at the top level (GPs). He is a great Rider but I keep reading that he is trying this Engine, that Engine or another Engine - that cannot be good for his consistancy.

the problem is speedways problem , the tuning is becoming more and more vital so a racer no longer just have to have talent he has to have the right engine which is doing speedway no favours but it's not going to change anytime soon

Surely there is still time for Hampel to come back and score more than Harris and relegate him to #16?Nothing against Chris, just wondering if your statement is correct? :D

Also possible that someone else is out injured and Jepsen Jensen comes in and relegates Harris to #17......though not likely,i agree

Unless things have changed reserves and wildcards don't count in the classification. Even if Freddie makes top 8 he still won't qualify. It's official positions that matter, so Harris is 15th at worst :P

Thought we had that cleared up,that after the year Hans went well and was told his points didn't officially count, the rule was changed......but who knows.Maybe not

You might be right. Anyway, I'd hope that if Hampel is back for the next GP Freddies 34 is achievable for Bomber, he'd only need 14 from 6 GPs, even he's not that bad that 2 points a meeting is beyond him, is he? :D

I feared worst when I started to read this thread not because I thought any harm had come to chris.

I know what he scored at cardiff but others had a bad one too. What SCB says it in his excellent post really sums it up. We should encourage riders like chris and as long as he doesn't give it up we should all back him.

Should 'we' not be allowed to criticise something when 'we' feel that criticism is warranted?

Of course. That's the freedom of the forum. But if someone had started a thread and said in the first post something along the lines of: 'The form of Harris is a bit of a worry with the SWC coming up. Should he perhaps be looking at X, Y and Z to improve matters' and made some constructive criticisms, this would probably be a 10-page thread with some positive contributions. As it is, it appears to have been launched simply to have a pop at the rider.

Speaking as someone who watches Wolves when the chance arises, and thus partially through gritted teeth, it's never a hardship to see him in action. A standard Harris EL season is seven to eight points and a stack of memories. Wish we had more like him.

We should be allowed and even as a Chris Harris fan I'm happy to discuss them, in fact I could probably list a lot more areas for improvement than you :D Theres no deny it, Bomber has many faults as well as many great attributes but on track, Bomber has very few faults. The guy gets his head down and races his backside off. Slightly annoyingly he does seem to have rewritten the book of excuses and I do with he'd sometimes either say nothing or just admit, "I was was rubbish".

Some years ago I interviewed Billy Hamill after one underwhelming away performance, expressed sympathy at his lack of points and gently inquired if there was a technical explanation, receiving the prompt reply: "I rode like a d***head."
