RPNY
No they're not banned. Flammable air-horns are banned. Non-flammable ones are allowed. So the attendance was 40,234. So a bit more than the 32 and 35k some people suggested, I'll claim my 42k guess was pretty accurate. Maybe one reason why the attendance fell this year is because some people may not be able to relate to Tai Woffinden. Hes the only GB rider in the GP's so he should be loved by everyone. But 1) he does not ride in the British speedway league 2) he does not ride in the British Championship 3) probably worst of all - he does not ride for GB 4) some dont like the tatoos he has - of all the top GB atheletes/sportsperson he is the one with the most that are visible. 5) some do not like the swearing he comes out with in normal conversation.. Of course, some on this forum dont mind any of the above, but equally there are some that do object to some if not all of the above. The crowd seems to be less then before, and some who were there say that not as much cheering for Tai. . You make some good points, but as SCB said, the crowd level didnt fall. Cardiff has always been a great crowd and well supported, through many baron years of Brit Riders scrapping merely to stay in the competition. It's Been somewhere between 40-45k since 2001. My guess is in 2018 it'll be about the same... Edited July 24, 2017 by RPNYC
coventry1963
Just a thought on Jason Doyle's frustration in the pits tunnel following his fall. Bearing in mind that he had just limped about two hundred yards across the stadium following his crash, his pit crew THEN offered him his crutches for the last few yards to his pit box. At the same time the guy took his crash helmet from him and dropped it on the floor! Maybe, just maybe, he thought that his crew might have run his crutches out to him a little bit earlier and saved him at least some of the pain of walking. I think I might have been a touch frustrated by then!

Did SCB say the attendance didnt fall??? he said the attendance was 40,234, but didnt mention what it was last year, and I heard figures of 45,000 last year - that would be a drop of 10% For 3 years (2013-14-15) we have sat in the top tier on turn 3 (£19 as senoirs - there is a lift up but not used ) but this year that area looked empty, whereas it has been well populated in the years 13-15. Others have said the start straight was sparsely populated this year, and it looked it - that was different to 13-15. I do think it was less this year but we all know figures can be fudged - Jeremy Corbyn is perhaps most recent acording to this mornings papers. I bet the actual number of scanned tickets (people inside) was known at any given minute after 5 PM on saturday. It's usually revealed in the after meeting press conference - it certainly was in the days when i was helping at the gp... Phil Rising may be able to confirm if it still happens now. Steve Shovlar
Those stating £25 isn't much are clearly wealthy baby boomers who benefited from cheap house prices. Working class families can't afford to spend £100+ on a day out. Define working class? I work everyday and Cardiff is chump change out the sides off the sofa. Only people who can't afford to go are spending their dole money on diamond white or the slots. If you can't afford a oner for a good day out you are doing something seriously wrong with your life. £10 for lunch? You're so out of touch. A single mum has £30-£40 to spend for a week's supply of groceries. Withdraw your remark about scroungers, I found it offensive. Labour spongers and scroungers. Labour are spongers party. You say that every year. 32 eh you are getting old. Steve, where did you park for £2.60 for the day.. Steve's been fishing again.. Parked on the main road into cardiff in the carparks on the right. Always get in there before 11.30 am. Parking is £5.20 a day and there are two of us. Cheaps as chips.
keef robin
Over 40000 is a good crowd, especially on a major school holiday day. Two-thirds full, I was 234 out! Whatever people say about ticket prices, hotel prices, poor p.a, poor Brits, too many Poles, queues for trains and admission, too much noise, still a great day out, with some superb racing, long may it continue in Cardiff. I think its been between 36-46000 since I've been going from 2005. Edited July 24, 2017 by beefy keefy
Steve Shovlar
Thought the acoustics wer bad, couldn't make out the interviews and result announcements were bad too.Because the roof was closed. Much clearer with the roof open and not echoing around the stadium.

The other Brits were cheered loudly, even the reserves. Doyley and Holder well supported, quite a few Aussie flags waved by mainly British fans. Uncle Greg is always popular, but no panto villain with Nicki P absent. Killer was in probably the two best races.

RPNY
I just dont see how Saturday can be viewed as anything other than a complete success. Big Crowd, great atmosphere, sublime racing. Paulco
Well I enjoyed myself . Prince of Wales was enjoyable as usual , queue to get past the bag search was a pain in the arse , but better safe than sorry , though I don't think many Johnny Jihads go to the speedway , not even to Edinburgh . As for the racing , it was a better than normal Cardiff with a worthy winner , and no Poles near me being a pain which was a bonus . Had a chuckle when they tried to charge me and Willie £6 to get in the Walkabout at the back of 10 , behave yourselves it's a pub lol . Roll on next year .

Jacques
I just dont see how Saturday can be viewed as anything other than a complete success. Big Crowd, great atmosphere, sublime racing. No home victory but only ever been one of that in 17 years! It's been 13 consecutive years for us. I can't honestly say I can find any particular point to moan about, apart from a terrible meal at a restaurant which we didn't pay for and has absolutely nothing to do with the Speedway. I just don't get it, they should stay at home and watch on TV. Of course nothing will be perfect, it never is, but I loved it, always do! Well I enjoyed myself . Ha ha my first ever visit to the Walkabout and the last, wtf is the fuss about that place? Don't get that either. I didn't pay though, himself had all the cash and we'd mislaid him, so Shawn paid for me .Well, that's what I told him anyway See you next year, if not before Edited July 24, 2017 by Jacques

crumpiefan
Probably the 5th or 6th time I've been, I thought the City itself was quieter than usual and the stadium did look marginally emptier to me. As for the parade I must be old fashioned I just think lights, fireworks you name it are a waste of time and money.
PHILIPRISING
I think I was there one year when j Bradbury was the announcer and she said it during the meeting as it was the biggest spw crowd for a few decades. Like I said, they know it, its about wantibg others to know. WHEN I ran the Press Conference I always ascertained the crowd figure from the stadium beforehand. Not my role anymore and no information available on Saturday. But I will enquire. Probably the 5th or 6th time I've been, I thought the City itself was quieter than usual and the stadium did look marginally emptier to me. As for the parade I must be old fashioned I just think lights, fireworks you name it are a waste of time and money. BUT'S that what makes it an event, not just a speedway meeting, for thousands for whom this is the only speedway they actually see live all year.
crumpiefan
Air horns are banned at the Principality as mentioned on the back of the tickets. There may have been the odd few that managed to sneak some in but the majority used were blow horns. One very noticeable difference as I hadn't been in three years was how much quieter the bikes were The loudest bike was Lindgren's when it conked out. It actually got louder. Never heard a bike 'go' like that before.
