Things You Miss In Speedway...

Recommended Posts

You have hit the nail on the head, I enjoyed my speedway far more when I knew little about the rule book, or the various goings on.

Does this Forum encourage people to go and watch speedway ? I think not.

It seems that some posters spend all their time dissecting others posts, be it a sentence, or just a word, and going on and on with a pointless argument, and claiming they are right, when the other poster gets fed up arguing with them.

Then you have the other posters, with thousands of posts to their name who consider themselves superior to those who post less often. You often wonder if they have any other life than on here.

Amongst all the twaddle, you do get the occasional posts that are informative, interesting, and humorous.

One of the best posts that I have read on this forum.

As Nick Robinson (Political Commentator) in his most excellent book says "public forums are often about people registering opinions and not necessarily facts". I guess that we are all guilty to an extent but a bit of humility wouldn't go amiss occasionally. A lesson for us all.

It IS SIMPLE, four blokes on bikes, four laps, when you're old and decrepit you may regret not going to watch our great, simple sport.

Think its already at the stage for TWK now

Hes already old and decrepit

I miss the days of just reading Speedway Star and Mail, 5-1 and longing for the Yearbook...

Those days made me happy and filled me with a desire to go to my next meeting as soon as possible.

I wish it was that simple again...as I've become addicted to reading parts of this forum daily...an addiction that leaves very little joy, lots of sadness, and often a sour taste in my mouth asking 'why do I bother'.

I have a recollection of both the 'Speedway Star' and 'Speedway Mail'!!! :approve:I am glad you found them enjoyable to read.

Bang on...

I get the impression Forums bring out the worst in people, and often reflect what's actually going on in a persons life.

I've never known a fan base moan for the sake of moaning.

Constructive criticism I can get...but many just moan, moan, moan.

People won't like this...but it's definitely an older generation thing.

Way too much time on their hands, which leads to them over analysing, nit picking, and constantly moaning because they now have time too.

I've seen it first hand with my parents and their generation of friends.

Constantly moaning and complaining, because things in the world aren't how they used to be and standards have dropped.

It's energy sapping and so negative.

No wonder they all end up depressed and taking medication....and often over eating to make themselves feel better. Which leads me to Cardiff GP...

I people watched at the fan zone on Saturday...what a freakin state. It was reminiscent of the bar in Star Wars lol

A great majority of Speedway fans should take a long hard look at themselves.

Never seen so many people congregated, that were so obese, miserable and an embarrassment to society.

Anyone would think a great majority live in Macdonalds and don't own mirrors.

I know it's a working class sport...but really? No wonder the youth of today are put off.

So in short...over 50's...stop friggin moaning, stop living in the past, LIVE for the future, you still have one...living in the past is NEGATIVE....young people have piercings, tattoos and swear...it's different...get over it. Embrace Speedway...it maybe not how it used to be...but nothing is anymore.

Try being positive...as being negative all the time, makes you depressed...which in turn leads to depression...which in turn leads to over eating and a penchant for fluorescent jackets and a size too small Speedway tour T shirts...matched with tracksuit bottoms with elasticated waist band, built for comfort for the ever expanding gunt...and freaking Crocs...a crime to humanity...rant over...feels so much better lol

Said with tongue firmly in cheek...but tell me it ain't true. ;-)

yours truly
